Day at the Falls

My sister and I volunteered at Multnomah Falls this afternoon.  We had lunch in the lodge first, as is our custom.  They have a wonderful dining room with a big roaring wood fire, see the smoke?  It always smells nice when you go in.  This photo shows the Visitor's Center where we volunteer, there on the left with the 5 doors under the bay window.  The coffee cart is there to the left where we get our afternoon "pick-me-up" - really good coffee drinks there, the roaster is in Hood River I think.
It was a chilly day, damp and cold.  I had to turn on a little space heater to keep us warm.  Sis and I both took something to work on - I am crocheting a brilliant magenta Queen Anne's Lace scarf - and my sister began knitting a TINY little blue scarf for her polar bear ornament that I gave her for her birthday.  The kit is designed and made by one of my favorite bloggers - Alicia Paulson - and you have to knit this miniature blue scarf to go on the bear.  SOOOO cute!  I had to bring my #1 double-pointed needles for her to use.  Mine are bronze made by friends at Celtic Swan - they make sterling silver and bronze crochet hooks, knitting needles and cable needles -- I also have their yarn needle.  Love them!
Here is a shot of Vista House at Crown Point State Park silhouetted against the setting sun.  Another very busy week.  I think I need a vacation from being retired... LOL

    Beautiful shot of the Lodge and the Vista House. I just talked to my daughter in Portland and she said she had just gotten back from a nice walk with the dog. Must not be raining today! :-)

    I'm looking forward to seeing your scarf when it's done.

    Hi Betsy, do you get to visit Portland often? Have you visited the falls? You're right, it was a sunny day.. after the fog burned off.

    I hope I can get a good photo of the scarf, but the color of it just doesn't show. It's **gorgeous**!

    Hi Teresa:

    I get to Portland every couple of months or so, especially when the snow isn't flying up north here! :-) We always stop at the falls if there is a parking space. I'm not a coffee drinker but love the hot chocolate they make at the coffee cart.

    I hope next trip will be one of your days to volunteer. We can compare projects!

    Betsy, I volunteer the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 1:30 to 5 pm. That would be awesome if you come by one of those times, be sure to let me know. I'll bring some of my fun projects. :-)

    Hi Clara - it actually is a nice way to spend a day. Lunch with sis in a cool restaurant, then spending 3 1/2 hours visiting with people from all over the world and helping them with questions of where to go and what to see. Visiting with my sister when it gets slower and working on my crochet while talking - I give out Lucy's blog to lots of people who ask about my colorful crochet too.

    Jane - thanks re: the photos! I'm starting to wish for a better SLR camera after seeing some great photos of flowers on "Quince Tree" blog! You have a great weekend too!

    Sue, thanks SO much for the big photo tutorial and also telling me about the camera. Eeks.. spendy, huh? Is it hard to learn to use? Which lens did you get that is providing the amazing closeups?

    Meredith, I am done with the scard, need to darn in the very end and do some photo-ing. It's softer than the Noro, but still kinda un-soft. :-) You have a great weekend too!
