Family, Friends & Antiquing

Hi my friends, thanks for stopping by to visit!  Shirley, my best friend from 7th grade arrived yesterday for an  overnight visit.  After a nice visit we headed out to dinner - hubby had a chore to finish here so just the 2 of us went.  The Old Country Kitchen is a time-honored restaurant in Portland - it opened the year before I was born - so you know it's been around for a while. :-)  Shirley had never been and enjoyed dinner so much she wants to go again when her husband comes on the next visit.  We both had an 8 oz. filet mignon and both were excellent.

Today she joined us for lunch with my 2 sisters, 2 brothers-in-law and hubby to celebrate my older sister's 69th birthday.  We went to the Old Spaghetti Factory.  I had Gourmet Jumbo Crab Ravioli.. it was very good!  What a fun time we had chatting and telling old tales.  Shirley's birthday is on Thursday so I brought a gift for both my sister and Shirley - I gave them each a hand-painted watercolor card, and gave my sister a frame for hers.  For sis I gave her a painted Rainbow Trout - for her lake house at Fishhawk Lake.  For Shirley I gave her a Sumi ink goldfish painted card!  You can see the type I make here:  Teresa's Watercolor Cards
On our way back to the farm, Dayle, Shirley & I stopped in to the wonderful Troutdale Antique Mall.  The first thing I saw when I entered the door was this fabulous display of Halloween and Autumn items.  I loved the turkey on the middle right, but it was $185!!
This is the display as you enter the door on the right.  See the neat vintage bread box tins?
Below, the owner of the mall put her own Halloween collection on display - not for sale.
On the right...
On the left...
Don't you love this old cabinet with vintage kitchen things and see the great old mixer on the left?  I know my Mom had one like this!!
Below is a photo of my very own antique... sitting on the bench.. after he paid for my 2 new purchases. :-)
Below is one purchase - on the left - the milk glass hobnail "fan" vase - to go with the milk glass hobnail decanter on the right.  I got the piece on the right in honor of my Mom who kept one just like this on the back of the... ahem..  "flushable bathroom fixture" all the years when I was growing up.
Another "must have" prize is this Majolica style glazed ceramic hen.  She's going to look very nice with my glazed turkey!!  She was only $14!
My sister, Roberta, has been picking up some clear glass candleholders for me when she sees them.. here are 4 she gave me today, isn't that nice!!?
When I was looking for pillar candles I saw my crocheted jar "jacket" in the Kitchen Queen so put that on the table too.  I used natural, unbleached cotton thread to make this and put a tea light in the bottom.
And so.. Shirley has headed off for her next visit and Dayle and I have our feet up watching TV and the pellet stove is warming the room with it's bright flames.  Autumn has arrived, big-time.  Cool and rainy.  But we're cozy and warm and happy.

Thanks for stopping in and I just *ADORE* the lovely comments on my last post.  Hugs all around to all of you!!   ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. I could use some cool and rainy. Still in the 100's here. Of course, it rained after I got to work. Glad it wasn't during my mile walk.

  6. Love your antique findings! And the Halloween decoration... I so wish Halloween was more celebrated in Belgium, it was never a tradition unfortunately. Such a pitty! Your watercolours are very pretty and delicate, I especially love the one with the hummingbird! Have a beautiful day :-) xxxx

  8. Love all the antiques! Those pumpkins have some freaky faces :) I remember both of my grandmothers had the hobnail vases. They didn't have the fan one, but there was a lot of that stuff around. Glad you had a wonderful visit!

  10. Oh what fun. Antique shopping and hunting and looking is one of my favorite things to do. And I'd give anything to be sitting in your cozy house with a little pellet fire going! It's still in the 90s here for the next few days, then we will DROP way down into the 80s! heh-heh. It's no fun at all for someone who loves the fall weather like I do. I will just live it through you. Keep the autumny pictures coming! Much love.

  12. Hi Teresa. We live on the opposite side of LA. In Corona. About 25 minutes East of Orange County, and 15 minutes West of Riverside.
Does that help? Our area used to be all orange and avocado grove property. But then, about 18 years ago, the last became more valuable than the fruit it bore. And so these lovely trees and the acreage that sit on, are nearly all gone now. However, we purchased a custom home, although old and dated from the early 70's, that was built on an orange grove. Each property on our street has 1 acre, and they built the homes, leaving the trees in tact. I love our small grove. It is our little piece of paradise!!!

  14. Hello Teresa sounds as though you have had another wonderful few days. I am not sure what age 7th grade is - I have a friend who is very dear to me and we visit as often as we can and do much the same as you and your friend did this time. we were 7years old when we met.
The Halloween collections are amazing- it is celebrated here more than it used to be but have never seen such a variety of collectables.
We are having an 'Indian Summer' here in the UK - it has been very warm and such a beautiful day. Apparently will continue until at least Sunday. Love Anne x
