My Baskets & Presidential Awards :-)

One of my favorite bloggers, Lucy at Attic24, showed her knitting basket and so the discussion has started on Ravelry in the "We Love Lucy" group and on Facebook in the "We Love Lucy II" group about where you find baskets and baskets in general.

I adore baskets!  I have quite a collection of them.  I even have an egg basket that I found in my grandparents chicken house in Oklahoma!  I've made several myself, which was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.  This one below I wove using rattan, un-dyed.
I wove the one below with brown dyed rattan.
The one below was made in the Nantucket basketry style.

Tonight hubby and I attended the Annual Meeting of the Friends of Multnomah Falls.  When we arrived I got a few photos - we've had a lot of rain today and the water was just rushing over the falls... it was gorge-ous! :-)

This was my first annual meeting where I presided as President, and was elected for my 2nd term tonight.  :-)  We honored our Board of Directors, volunteer schedulers and all our dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly in the Visitors Center.  A big surprise happened that knocked my socks off!!  The USFS women called me to the front and proceeded to read a letter of recognition of our volunteer service from... President Barack Obama!!!
This is the certificate below.
And a pin!
And the letter from our President!!
Isn't that the coolest thing?  Our group earned the Gold Level, the top award, for our volunteerism to the country.

All in all.. quite a nice evening we had.  The lodge also presented us with a lovely banquet of lasagna, garlic bread, salad and peach and berry crisp with whipped cream for dessert.

And so.. I wanted to share this with you.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. More sublime scenery and lovely baskets, too. I have a weakness for baskets and have quite a few, particularly those from the '40s and '50s with colour woven through them.

  2. Congratulations to your group on that awesome award and also to yourself for being elected for your second term as President. As always, your photos are absolutely stunning. I was also interested in your beautiful baskets. I used to make baskets years ago but only have one left. Its a bucket type and is made with plastic coated cane (yuk) which was all the go at the time. I do prefer the more natural look like yours.

  3. Forgot to say, your President will be visiting my city (Canberra, Australia) tomorrow for a couple of days. Canberra is the capital city of Australia and the seat of our Federal Parliament and home to our Governor General (Queens representative) and our Prime Minister. The security is incredible - like we've never seen before.

  5. Congratulations to your group on the award ...you must all have been thrilled. As Dorothy above has said, here in Australia we are having a flying visit tomorrow by Barack Obama - he is here for 26 hours! A long way to come for such a short time, but I guess he is a very busy man.

  12. Congratulations on your group's award. I've been following your blog and you take absolutely gorgeous photographs. I have to admit I'm envious of the beautiful autumn foliage you have. Due to a wet summer and two very destructive storms, Connecticut did not have even a decent foliage this year. First time in my life that this has happened and I miss it a lot. Looking forward to seeing more pics from Oregon.

  16. Seriously, Teresa, just what do you NOT do. Those baskets are fabulous. I have never seen any better. They are even more elegant that the A24s thing. You go girl.

I can't believe you still have such amazing fall colors. And boy, what an honor to get such a reward, from the Prez no less. We are holding out own here in the high 30s. But I know that will soon be changing.

Thanks for sharing such a wonderful posting today.

  19. Your baskets are beautiful Teresa. I had a great uncle who made baskets and I can remember as a child visiting him when I was staying with my grandma and making a small basket of my own, I was very proud of my attempt. Congratulations on your award, that's really something! ((hugs)) Joanna xx
