Mom's Jadeite Mug, My New Friend & Flowers

I just love how thoughts and things seque into other thoughts and things.. perhaps my mind works like Google or the "world wide web"?  Which came first.. my mind working like that or...?  LOL!  Anyhoo.. so my daughter started on Pinterest and I looked at one of her pins of a stack of jadeite cups and saucers.  So.. I started looking for some for her and sent her the links.. and then I found some for me as I've always loved jadeite but had never bought any.  I showed you my first 4 cups and saucers.  And while I was looking at those I saw this iconic mug and I go.. *wow*.. my Mom used one just like that the whole time I was growing up!  It was "her mug".  We didn't have a dishwasher so I knew the mug intimately.. I washed it by hand so many times during my teen years.  Now these jadeite dishes were cheap cheap cheap and you even got them in laundry detergent and they were given away at theaters and even the gas station!  But can you beLIEVE that 4 of these on eBay were.. omg.. $250?????  I finally found this mug and a "Jane Ray" saucer (they are not a pair) on Etsy.com.  They arrived yesterday. :-)  And today 2 more of my "Alice" cups and saucers arrived.  I explained to my husband that I accidentally bought those 2.  heheh :-)  I'd put a bid on eBay not expecting to get them.. but I did.  So.. now I have a set of SIX Alice cups and saucers.  At least one of them has a Fire King logo on the bottom.. most are plain bottomed.  They were made staring in the 1940s.  The same time I was made. :-) (ETA - very very LATE 40s)
Yesterday was a GREAT day as I had a lunch set up with my new blog friend, Gracie.  We met at Red Lobster and had the most fun talking about all the things we have in common - living in the country, blogging, spinning, crocheting, etc etc etc!  Her blog is here - One Saylor's Log.  Here is a photo of Gracie taking a photo of me taking a photo of her.  :-)  A side note is their Coconut Shrimp is soooooooooooo good.  Yum.
And me taking a photo of Gracie.  :-)

After lunch I headed off to swim for an hour.  When I got home hubby surprised me with the most fragrant and beautiful potted plant of a Hyacinth and 2 colorful primroses!  Oh the aroma is wonderful!
Have you ever seen a hyacinth this pretty?  My favorite color.. fuchsia!  And the dark orange primrose...
And a magenta primrose.
This morning we found that the hyacinth was reaching towards the light..
Oh my little pretties!
Last evening hubby made us fruit salad for dinner.  He put cut up bananas, apples, oranges, strawberries in a bowl of vanilla yogurt.  He'd gone shopping while I was swimming and brought home lots of healthy edibles.  After reading Pammy Sue's brown rice recipe, we've got brown rice on our shopping list.  She's been eating healthy and sharing recipes.. that is so great!  My friend Kris has also been sharing green ideas of recycling and making your own detergents and things!  Her blog is called Simplify.

And I want to give a shout out to a dear blog friend, Kate from A Garden Bell -- she's taking a blog break - I just wanted to say we love you and miss you and hope to see your happy colorful self back soon.

I also want to tell you that all the blog links I have on the right of my blog are all people who I treasure -- to me putting your blog link on my blog is a real testament that I think you're special.  Thanks for being you!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Love the mug, we did not have any of those in my house growing up but I am in love with the color. I would love them myself, a little tea would be perfect in them. That Dayle is such a great guy, yes you can tell him I said that. He is to thoughtful. Glad you had a great time with your new friend, bloggers are just the nicest people. Thanks for putting me on your side bar, you are the best.

  2. Oh, Teresa...you are such a sweetie. It's no wonder that you seem to have a sweetie of a husband too. Those flowers are soooooo pretty! Thanks for the linky. ;)

It's very cool that you got to meet a blog friend in person, isn't it? I'm so looking forward to meeting Kate in less than 2 weeks. Ain't blogging just grand? I've met the nicest, coolest, most wonderful people through blogging! I hope to meet you in person some day too, although I feel like I all ready know you so well! XOXO

  3. Hmmmm, hyacinths! I think, next to Sweet Peas, they are my favorite when it comes to fragrance! So heady, they are! Love your dishes! They are raising memories for me...but I haven't put my finger on exactly WHERE those memories come from! I'm giggling that you accidentally bought some of them. How funny! And what an adorable husband you must have! Flowers and fruits...oh so loving! I have a loving one too...but he has NO inclination toward little thoughtful "gifties". Oh well...he has many other wonderful traits. And coconut shrimp...OMG...that's MY FAVE when I go there! That dipping sauce too...yummmmmmm! I want them to be on the healthy eating list...do you think Pammy can get us a healthy recipe for them? LOL Have a great rest of the weekend! Annette

  4. You two are too funny. Only another blogger would take a picture of a blogger taking a picture of another blogger for her blog. Did you follow that...he-he... Don't you just love when you make those Ebay mistakes. Great get.

  6. Hi Teresa! Let's see, so much to comment on. First, I want to say thank you for your kind words!! I love how blogging has made it possible to connect with so many like minded woman that we would have never had the opportunity to know. I treasure these friendships too!!
Fun with your friend at Red Lobster! Love the pics of pics, of pics!!!! Does she live near you, I hope? What a nice thing that would be!
What a thoughtful thing for hubby to do with those pretty flowers. I love hyacinth. The fragrance is intoxicating!!! And I love your pretty jadeite mugs and saucers. I have always loved them too, but never collected. Your hubby sounds like he is a pretty good sport about your fun with collecting!
Didn't Pammy's dinner sound good??? I need to make that myself. We are really eating much healthier. Lots of whole foods, fresh veg and fruit. We went to a market called Mother's today. It is a health food store. Got some interesting things, and some homeopathics for my darned cold.
I hope our Kate is fine too. And I will miss her beautiful posts!!! But I know she will be back at it soon.
    Hugs to you!
    Kris

  7. How fabulous to find a blog friend living close enough to meet up for coffee and a chat. No doubt you both had lots of fun. Teresa, those flowers are gorgeous and the colours breathtaking. I've seen hyacinth in pots on other blogs and now, seeing yours I'm going to have to ask about them at my nursery. I'm not much of a gardener but one of my indoor plants has lasted a couple of years so perhaps I'll be brave enough to try another. Now tell me, what camera did you use for those superb shots? xoxox

  8. We did have fun visiting face to face/camera to camera, Teresa! (: I got half of the alpaca fiber you generously gave me washed this afternoon before I ran an errand, then stopped to attend the evening church service and finally am able to read and respond to your latest post. Dayle's flowers for you are lovely and your pictures of them and your pretty old-new dishes are great! I'm so glad I discovered your blog and am enjoying being able to read the posts of your blogging friends from your blog roll as well. Thanks for including my blog on it especially since I am so new to the blogging world. <3

  11. It's really interesting to read about this glass Teresa as it is something I have not seen before. It is often the way that something that was free is now so expensive. Great that you managed to get some treasures from Ebay and Etsy. Your spring flowers look beautiful. Have a lovely Sunday,
    Jane x

  17. re: brown rice.
Do you have a rice cooker? about $10 at any walgreens/riteaid.
You put the rice and the recommended amount of water into the pot and let it do it's thing.
I've also cooked Quinoa this way as well.
My usual 'recipe' is to put a dash of olive oil in the rice pot, add 1 'cup' of brown rice and 3 cups of stock or water, dash of tumeric, maybe a little hot sauce.
45 minutes later -- ta da!
Much better than cooking it on the stove.
