Embellishments

I thank my little sister... she said about 3 years ago, "You have to go see this blog done by this woman in England" - and emailed me the url.  I clicked on it and found Attic24 - a delightful blog produced by a nice woman named Lucy in England.  I was entranced by her colorful crochet and positive outlook on life and her family of (then) 2 children.  I've been with her through the birth of her 3rd child, "Little B" and all kinds of adventures.  What is most fun is that she creates really neat crochet objects and writes up the patterns and photographs tutorials.  One of her latest creations was a crocheted heart that you stuff and embellish with a crocheted flower and leaves.  Lots of crafters over the world have done their versions of "the heart" - and I just finished up mine.  Done in a sparkly yarn.  I plan to do more.  It was my admiration of Lucy's blog which encouraged me to begin my own blog.  It has opened a whole new world for me and I want to thank my little sister, Denise, for finding Lucy's blog and sending me to visit.
After all, had I not found Lucy's blog, I would not have made all the blog friends that I have today - and the friendship is the whipped cream on top of the cupcake!
My blog friend, Pammy Sue, sent me her copy of the instructions that she got off Lucy's blog - so if you want it, let me know.
I finished my knitted dishcloth!  It's soooOOOoo soft, made with the KnitPicks "Simply Cotton Worsted" organic unbleached cotton.
Soft.. yummy.. I love the texture of this pattern.

Grandma's Knitted Dishcloth  (I recommend size 7 or 4.5 MM needles)

Cast on 4 stitches
knit 1 row and a second row
Next row, k2, yo, k2
Next row, k2, yo, k to end of row
Continue to repeat the [k2, yo, k until end of row] until you have a total of 45 sts on the needle (or more for a bigger cloth)

To begin the decreasing rows --

Next row, k1, k2Tog, yo, k2Tog, k to end of row
Continue to do the [k1, k2Tog, yo, k2Tog, k to end of row], decreasing each row until you have 5 stitches are left on the needle
Next row, k2, k2Tog, k1.
Bind off the 4 sts and weave in end.

Well, I'm off to the doctor for my annual checkup - the blood work was done and all my stuff is really good.. blood sugar, blood pressure & cholesterol.  Then we're going to lunch after.  What are you up to this week?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  6. So glad to hear your bloodwork was good, Teresa. I found Lucy the same way you did, a friend recommended I take a look at her blog and I fell in love with everything she writes about. She really taught me to appreciate my own life even more and to take pleasure in the simple things. I love your heart! Using sparkly yarn was a great idea. I did one too but made mine more pastel. Yours is more exciting! I am going to start crocheting some dishcloths myself I think, it seems like a very useful, homey project.

  7. Hi Teresa,
I began to blog about 5 years ago, but it was about 4 years ago, that I too discovered Lucy's blog. I had some experience in crochet, but not more than beginner. And I had not done it in years. I began to fall in love with yarn a and fiber arts! PLUS, for my situation at the time, as I was babysitting my infant grandson, and was really missing my sewing room! When I discovered how easily portable yarn work was, I was "hooked" pun intended!!!
I have since found you, and Pammy, and Kate, and Gracie, and Taci and so many other wonderful ladies to share our craft!!!
I hope this google problem is resolved soon, so that you can come and see me again!!!!
    xo Kris

  12. Your heart looks beautiful - lovely colours too. I also follow Lucy's blog and get lots of inspiration from it. She has a wonderful way with colours doesn't she? Your dishcloth turned out nice - is this for yourself? Sometimes they look too nice to use !! I've been 'hooked' on flowers for the past few days - crochet ones that is. Don't know why but just wanted to make them !! Crazy huh?

  18. I think it amazing how Lucy has changed so many people's loves and I doubt she knows it, she seems such a genuine, humble person, I too started following Lucy's blog about two years ago and adore her crotchet and photography and how she writes her blog.

I have started crotcheting a little which is a nice change from knitting. I am so looking forward to September as I will be heading north to Yarndale that I am sure you have read about. It will be such an adventure as I shall be staying in the Wooly Sheep Inn (such an awesome name) and going to the event and meeting Lucy which will be an honour in itself.

This week is half term for my 11 year old so I have a couple of days off work with him, so today is a trip to twian and making pancakes and Friday we are heading to the cinema.

Have a lovely week Teresa x

  26. Love your version of the heart in the sparkly yarn! So cute. Wasn't it fun to make? Have a good time for your Valentine's steak dinner with the hubby. Mine is going to grill us some hamburger patties outside. He said mine was going to be shaped like a heart. Aww!

  27. Even my non-blogging friend at school who crochets was looking for a pattern to make something and told me she got it from this really great blog ... and you guessed it, she had been to Lucy's place and was entranced. Little did she know that I had known about Attic 24 for years. Amazing how we are able to share across this great big world. So wonderful! Your hearts turned out beautifully. I haven't tried the pattern as I was busy making ones from other patterns. Lucy's bird pattern is one of the favorites I ever made -- along with the oh so easy granny ripple. :) Have a fabulous Friday! Tammy
