Flowers and Fish

Winter is a hard time for keeping a positive attitude.  I know we're all anxiously awaiting Spring - the warmer weather, the longer light, the flowers.. so today I decided to just take some photos of some flowers I have in bloom to help all of us feel happier.  :-)  My cyclamen is doing well!
I've got some blooms on ALL my Zygocactus in our garden window.  This one is extremely special to me as I rescued this almost dead plant from my mom's room at the assisted living facility right before my Mom passed away.  Each bloom is like a "hello!" from my mom.  The color in this flower is my favorite color in the world..

Another shot of the mom cactus, and the white one to the far right is from my Aunt Helyn in Annapolis, Maryland.  I'm so happy I got this start from her - she had this huge plant and told us when we visited last summer that she threw it away!
The mom one - this one is only half opened.
I went out to get a photo of my Snowdrops and I looked at the pond and noticed that the fish were out of hiding.. our 2 Koi have really gotten big over the winter!
Our granddaughters Jenna and Paige were with us when we bought them and named them Tiger and Flipper! :-)
The pond will need a cleaning in the spring to get all the leaves out of it that fell in over the fall and winter.
We have HUGE patches of Snowdrops all over the farm.  They are all around the chicken pen, too.  Some were coming up under the chicken house and the hens ate them to smithereens.  :-)
Did I cheer you up?  I know I am feeling happier! And the sun is poking out, too.  Hubby is taking me to lunch, grocery and flower shopping later.  What are you doing this weekend?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. Hi Teresa. I love the cactus from your Mom....and that the blooms feel like a hello from her. So neat! The Koi are so big! And I love the snow drops. Is that what you call them? So pretty and delicate looking.
I hope you enjoyed your outing with Dayle today. Greg and I have been working hard in the grove today. I think we both over did it. I have taken my hot shower, and am resting til we go to my nieces CIF basketball game tonight.

  6. Ooooh....those flowers are so pretty! I love the pink color! Gorgeous! I'm anxious for warmer weather too. I'm tired of being cold. We had a wonderfully warm weekend last week but it got cold again on Monday and hasn't warmed up much since. Tonight, we're headed out for a nice dinner and then and evening at a local winery to enjoy our favorite blues band and some delicious wine. :-) Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. Yes! You cheered me up! Thanks for all the lively colors: flowers and fish! Our daffodil leaves out by the pine trees are about five inches tall. Spring is on the way:) I have been vacuuming. Last night I watched DA, but did not cry...having been forewarned helped! I started crocheting a basket last night, too. Do you watch the Academy Awards?

  10. Beautiful pictures and they DO give me hope that spring is on the way, however it did snow here yesterday. :-). Hubby and I spent the day together, but not necessarily fun things. We had a funeral service to go to and then had out taxes done. At least we have it over with for another year. Have a wonderful evening my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. Christmas cactus...that color IS so magnificent! When i lived in CA, I had one that color...and it bloomed after Christmas every year. I have a new one here in VA and it blooms around Thanksgiving each year. Not sure if the timing of the bloom is different from plant to plant or is attributable to the region. Either way, the color always brings a smile to my face in the midst of a grey landscape outside the window. The colors are coming soon and I can't wait! Love your Tiger and Flipper friends! Cleaning that pond....ewwwwww! ;-). Hugs, Annette

  14. Love seeing your flowers and the fish! I received a cyclamen from one of my students for Valentine's Day. If you have any advice for me I would appreciate it! Mine is red and I would like to keep it living!

  16. Oh, you did cheer me up, for sure! I love all your flowers, especially the mom cactus. What a nice thing to have. I would really enjoy having a goldfish pond someday. My grandparents had one and I always loved looking at it. My son's school maintains a goldfish pond in the school courtyard and it's a major attraction for all the kids and their families. :)

  20. Oh how I love your flowers and your photography. Gosh your fish have grown - they're huge ! Hope your weekend was good. I've had an awesome day today (Monday) watching a demonstration of porcelain bowls made with crochet doilies pressed into the clay (?) to make the pattern. Will write about it and show pics - probably tomorrow. Bedtime now. xoxox

  22. Love seeing your snowdrops. We don't have a peep of spring yet. In fact, still snow on the ground, though it is fast turning to slush with rain today. I've never had a cyclamen, but I love them. they look a bit like butterflies.
