Bull in a China Shop

Well.. it's been an interesting few days since I posted last.  On Wednesday I met Gracie for lunch so we could visit before we left for vacation.  I asked her if she'd like to try the little independent Italian place in Troutdale called Ristorante Pompello.  We had a nice visit and a GREAT lunch and then I invited her to go to my favorite antique mall down the street for a lookabout.  OH.. Jadeite!  Shawnee Corn ware!!  But neither of us bought anything.. this time.
I didn't think to see if the dress form was for sale.
Gracie followed me home to hang out on the deck with me.  In the house it was busy as we were having a new security system installed. Luckily Gracie left before "The Event".  See the stitches below.. that is in the hand of my "bull in the china shop".  I was in the family room wishing they would get done with the installation, and I heard a horrendous crash of breaking glass.  Dear Husband had moved a cabinet for the installers.. atop of which was my collection of antique yellow glass nesting bowls - 6 of them.. and of course, hubby moved the cabinet without moving the glass bowls to a safer location.. and when he moved the cabinet back, the cookbooks fell over and knocked off the bowl set and he tried to catch them.. and they broke into pieces in his hands and THEN fell on the floor with a sickening crashing sound of breaking glass.  I stood up.. turned the corner and looked upon my dear husband with both hands dripping blood into the pile of glass shards and all over the floor.  ::sigh::  The installers looked frightened.  AFTER I taped up hubby's bleeding hands, I had to go over all the paperwork with the man and learn how to use the new system..   After they left I insisted on taking him to the ER to get stitches in both hands.. we finally got home around 11:30 pm.  Sheesh.
The bowls below are like my set of 6.. 2 survived. :-|

Yesterday we tidied our house up all afternoon so I could host a DAR chorus rehearsal at 6:30 pm.  My new teapot arrived yesterday which was nice as I served warm brownies and hot tea to the singers and chorus director after our practice.  If you're interested in these wonderful enamel on stainless steel items, you can look here --> Mackenzie Childs - they have some amazing things!  I wish I'd have gotten the 2 quart one, this 3 qt. is a little BIG. :-)
It has this pretty glass knob on top.
The green background matches my Jadeite dishes perfectly and the flowers are gorgeous on it.
More fun things.. hubby and I were watching tv and saw a girl with this decal on her Apple computer -- and I was enchanted so I did a google search and found one.. isn't it cute?
I also wanted to show you the thoughtful gift that Taci gave me when I attended knitting night at her house.  It's a whole tiny flock of hand made clay and glazed chickens!!  Aren't they cute?  I'm going to put some on the porch of my dollhouse. :-)
She also gave me this adorable tiny set of pottery.. won't they look cute in the dollhouse, here and there?  *T*H*A*N*K* * *Y*O*U*!*!*!* Taci.. you'd love her blog too, please visit here:  Taci's Studio
Today we dropped Buddy off at the groomer's and then headed to the doctor's office for a shot for us each, then decided to have lunch at a place we used to go when we were younger.. "Produce Row".  We found it and also found that it had been "gentrified" and was totally different that it used to be.  We enjoyed it, however.  It's located in the industrial SE of Portland.
I had the burger and D had the Reuben.. :-)
We took a photo of the cobblestones that were used to pave our streets back in the days when sailing ships used them as ballast when sailing empty ships back from Europe and they would fill up here with cargo such as lumber, furs and such. We have cobblestones lining our brick front walk that were removed from the old part of Portland when they re-paved the streets.
We took the slow route home through the old part of the city and even drove by Dayle's childhood home.. isn't it cute?
And so.. I want to close with the news that our law enforcement teams have apprehended the 2nd Boston Marathon bomber and he is still alive.  What a tragic thing to happen during an event that was to celebrate such a wholesome activity such as running.  Please join me in keeping the families of the victims in your thoughts and prayers.  Love to you all.. Teresa

  1. Oh, Dale. The stitches look pretty nasty. I hope he's doing well today. I would absolutely love to go to an antique mall sometime, I've heard of these places but have never been to one. You go to the neatest places! Your food looks delicious. That teapot is so pretty. And Dale's old house looks like something from a storybook! Thank you for sharing all of these interesting things, as well as the less-fun ones, like your bull. :)

  2. Oops! Your husband moves things like I do -- I've broken many a thing by doing that. Ouch! I can imagine what a sight that was with his cut hands. Must make it hard to do much now. Sure hope they heal up quickly. I don't know how you and Gracie managed to walk away from the antique shop without something in hand. Looks like it has lots of wonderful items to choose from. Your new teapot is so very pretty. And the gifts from Taci are so lovely! Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy

  4. Oh no poor Dayle! I hope it doesn't hurt too much. Such a precious home he grew up in. My boyfriend and I are always in awe of those (in our eyes, typically American) porches, I can honestly say that I have never seen a house with a porch here in Belgium! Perfect for lazy Summer days and warm evenings :-)
Your teapot is just prefect! xxxx

  5. Ouch! That's a bad place to cut your self too. In the crease of his hand...poor guy. I have a green bowl just like your yellow ones and for some reason I'm excited about that. LOL! Mine is very old. It belonged to my Grandmother. It's a treasured keepsake for sure.

  14. What a sequence of events! Horrifying! Hope hubby is ok! At least your knight in Shining Armor tried to save your bowls:)

We also have lots of cobblestones around here...especially in New Bedford, once the whaling capital of the world.

  16. Poor Dayle. Here he was trying to be helpful and then gets hurt doing it. You'll need to give him special attention while he heals. :-) will he still be able to drive to pull your trailer to the coast? I hope so!
So glad you and Gracie were able to meet up again. And she visited your home too. How fun!
    Have a lovely weekend.

  18. Oh Dayle's hands look sore I hope they recover quickly. I love Dayle's childhood home. Your poor dishes but we've all done something similar I've no doubt- just as long as the hands heal. Love the pottery from Taci. Have a good weekend. Hugs Anne x

  19. I feel so bad for Dayle! I hope his pain is not great and that his hands heal rapidly.
Love cobblestones and old homes. When I was younger our family lived in a historic home with a clawfoot bathtub, built in storage and -- if I remember correctly -- wood floors and french doors. I didn't appreciate it much then, but I sure would love to live in a place like that now:)
Many prayers and thoughts of peace to the people of Boston and West. I am thankful that the second suspect was caught too.
    Blessings,
    Aimee

  23. Ouch, that looks terrible. Hope Dayle's hands heal quickly. Hope this doesn't interfere with your vacation. The teapot is so pretty. I love the cobblestones. We had brick streets a long time ago but I'm not sure what happened to them. They have been paved as long as I can remember. Take care of each other and have a great week.

    Hugs,

  27. I have tried to post a comment twice, but couldn't. First of all, poor Dayle! Ouch! And poor you, for losing some of your things. I have a very similar scar on my hand from when I was in high school. I was in a diving meet, and took a dive off the 3 meter board, and went straight to the bottom of the pool with my outstretched hands, and smack dab onto a piece of cut coke bottle that was in the pool. Apparently, the boys baseball team, had their team party and someone broke a bottle. I found it!
What a thought gift from Taci! She seems so sweet!!
    That Tea Kettle is gorgeous!!!!
