Super Moon & Too Much Rain

Over the weekend the news kept reminding us of the "Super Moon" - once a year, yadda yadda.  I adore the moon.  I love taking photos of it.  So, on Friday I went out the night before "perfection" and got this shot of it from my deck, zooming all the way in using my Panasonic Lumix with Leica lens.  Good thing I jumped the gun as the sky was clouded over the next two nights!  When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore...
Our son and DIL brought the boys over yesterday - they were going to help Dayle build the play structure.. and it rained.. all.. day.. Grandpa made 2 dozen scrambled eggs and toast for us all and we sat out under the gazebo.. in the rain.. drip, drip.. and had brunch together.. drip.. drip... I don't know why Caleb was looking at grandpa that way.. :-)  I think grandpa told him he had to eat his eggs BEFORE squeezing oodles of honey on his toast.  OH.. funny.. my nail files and polish aren't very stylish on the breakfast table.
Our hens are producing well!  Can you believe how rich and golden our scrambled eggs are with our own cage free, free-range chickens?  If you've ever wanted chickens, I highly recommend it.  There is nothing more satisfying than knowing where your food came from and the good quality of feed and care that you give them.
Kristi ran in and asked for my camera.. then came back to give me this image, it's a Pileated Woodpecker!  There were THREE of them in our trees!!  We could see them flying around our woods and trees all afternoon and listened to them sing.  I have a bird app on my iPhone.. "iBird Western" - where you can find the bird and listen to it's call.  I played the call and the birds sang back to it!
Boys.  They have been asked that when they find a stick or branch to please take it down and throw it on the burn pile.  Look at this one they found.  :-)
After HOURS of sitting outside in the drizzle and the boys running around like wild natives we finally came inside and watched a goofy kid cartoon version of "Treasure Island".  Sheesh.. it was silly, but the littlies enjoyed it.  And grandpa did too?  Ha!
And then I looked over and ... awwwww...

Now I have a question for you.  Caleb, the baby of the family at 4 years of age, will be the last Teddy Bear I crochet for the 6 grandkids.  A year ago I asked him which color he'd like and without hesitation he said.. "Ow-inge".  So, I got some.. but when I looked closely at it - it was TOO bulky and chunky.  So, I got his huge skein of James C. Brett "Marble" in blues.  So, yestereday I showed him the yarn and he goes.. "I don't like blue!"  What?  So I said what DO you want?  And he goes "PINK!"  Oh boy.  His dad does not want him to have a pink bear.  His mom is okay with whatever Caleb wants.  Now what?  Any ideas?  HELP!
Well.. the kids are coming over again today to try to work on the play structure and not long ago we had a downpour.  I wish the rain would GO AWAY so we could get this thing done.  How is the weather where you are?  I'm off to go swimming.  I'm down 25 lb. :-)  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. 25 pounds!!! Teresa, that is awesome!!! I love seeing Dayle with his grands. He is so very attentive and reminds me of my Greg. The woodpecker...wow, how thrilling to see them so close!!! They are a beautiful bird!
I think you should find a lighter weight Oweenge for your little guy!!!
    Talk to you soon.

  2. Oh dear....a pink bear. I see nothing wrong with it. The hubs won major points with me when our oldest wanted to be the "Pink Ranger" (Power Ranger) for Halloween one year. That man went all over the place until he found a Pink Ranger costume that did not have a skirt so that he could enjoy his Halloween....Keep in mind that this is the south. That was a pretty big deal...Oh yeah, he turn out just fine :)

  3. Maybe you could make him more of a raspberry color or hot pink or some shade that's not quite so girlie, and you could add some other color in with it to tone it down?? But if he wants pink, get him pink!

Wish we had too much rain. We are dry as a bone and really need it. I would love it even if we didn't need it. I do love a rainy day or week or month! Congrats on the weight loss, Teresa! WOWEE! Love your moon picture.

  4. My mum adores the moon too Teresa and I love it too...that's a cool photo you took. The boys have such adventures with you. I would let your young laddo choose his teddy colour. My lad even had a doll when he was young...We never had an issue with it and he enjoyed joining in make believe tea parties with his big sis. The golf clubs soon took over ;-) xx

  5. Tough dilemma there---I would normally say let Caleb choose whatever color he wants, but I also believe that it very important to respect his dad's wishes. I think I would talk it over with his father and ask if a hot pink (as mentioned above) or orangish-pink would be acceptable. BTW--such a good photo of him:)
Good for you on the weight loss and where I am, I actually see a wee bit of blue right now...hope there is some where you are:)
    Blessings,
    Aimee

  6. Gorgeous pic of the moon Teresa...You get some great pics with your Lumix! It looks lovely sitting there under your new gazebo too and I love the pic of the woodpecker.
I think Caleb should have the colour he chooses and he will just love it all the more!
Happy new week to you friend,
    Susan x

  7. Way to go on the weight loss! So proud of you. I think I'd make the bear whatever color Caleb wants, but I can imagine that his preference might be different in a few weeks. That's just how little ones are. Maybe ask him again after a little while and put off making it until he seems sure? If he says pink again, that's what he wants, I think. Your photo of the moon is really cool!

  8. Hi there Teresa, Many thanks and you know why : ) The moon is crazy this month, I think it's affecting hormones and emotions right now with people. (says one daughter) Love seeing what you are up to, and that woodpecker is amazing.
    Take care, xoRobin
Oh pink, why not or just make it orange!

  9. Whoo-eee!!!! 25 lbs!1 I'm so, so happy for you. Doing the HaPpY dAnCe!!
And...it's raining here too. I'm on my way your direction tomorrow so I hope it gets better there soon. We missed the moon because, although it wasn't raining, by evening clouds were here Fri, Sat and Sun.
The eggs look so yummy and healthy. The color is amazing. The wood pecker is amazing to look at.
Hmmmm. So you can't find any other orange yarn? Do you want me to check out Hobby Lobby here for you? Otherwise I think he should get pink if that's what he wants, but as Aimee said, you need to respect Dad's wishes too. Hard choice.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. Congrats on the the weight loss!!! That's fantastic and swimming is a great way to tone up too. As for the bear...I think you should do it in whatever color Caleb wants since it's a gift for him not his Dad. :-)

  17. Way to go. I know you can do it. Don't you feel lighter and lighter with each one. Keep up the good work. But it looks like a busy summer ahead for you out there with those kiddos a foot. How's you new addition to the deck being enjoyed? It turned out lovely.

  18. Seems like I have seen a pink-orange combo of yarn somewhere..... Your moon pic is wonderful!!! It was cloudy here, too, and is raining today. So neat to see the Pileated Woodpecker! I saw one once in NY and was so excited and amazed about how big a bird they are. Bravo on the wt. loss :-) xx, Gracie

  19. Love your great pictures and reading about your happy family times...how about a bear made from sock yarn with a little bit of pink in?.. Or a red bear with the red in a pinkish/purplish shade? Hope the sun shines for you and you have a great week.

  20. Fabulous pictures, it was too cloudy also where we live to see the Moon. Currently we had a Pileated Woodpecker pecking a dead log in the backyard, I can not believe the noise they make.

  21. Again, a wonderful post, and so happy to be spending time peeking in on your family and what is happening. Now that woodpecker, isn't that the largest woodpecker? I keep hearing about the Woody Woodpecker bird that is huge, but although family members have seen and heard it, I have not. I have the small ones and they make a sound that is loud on the dead trees mainly when looking for bugs. Oh the eggs from your hens are such a rich yellow. Free range is best and some folks around here advertize some for sale. I use to have an egg lady, but she is now into goats and making soap from their milk. What to do, what to do about a male child wanting a pink bear, hummmm, well I don't see the harm really, after all I have seen men who wear pink shirts/pink ties and they are quite manly. I suppose you have a choice to make, keep the grown man happy, or the little guy. Good luck on that one friend. Good job on the weight loss!!!!!!
