Little Things

Can I tell you a sweet little story?  I attended a Portland Women's Forum meeting on Thursday and one of our ladies, Elsie, was there.  She was a teacher out here in Corbett for her whole career, mostly in Home Economics.  In the past I've seen other students of hers get all happy and excited to see her.  This time we had a guest speaker, Helen Wand, who has written a book about her family stories.  She joined the club and got one of our rosters and was reading down the list of members and she said to me.. Elsie Clements.. she was my teacher!  I pointed out Elsie and encouraged her to go over and say hello, this is a photo of the two of them re-uniting after 65 years or so!  Elsie is the one sitting.. Helen in the pink shirt.  It was just so sweet.

Helen Wand is a local woman who wrote this book, she told us it's a "historical novel" because she wrote about the old family stories she heard when young, but filled in the text using her imagination.  I bought a copy and look forward to reading it.  You can read more about it HERE.

Dayle picked me up from the meeting and we then went shopping at Costco - then headed home.  I noticed the sun was shining and sparkling off the Sandy River.. I pulled over and we got this shot.  Sun sparkling off water is one of my favorite things.

Kristi decided it was time to take down all the hand colored pumpkins around the door frame and make room for some turkey drawings.  For fun, she stuck all the pumpkins all over Hayden and he thought that was fun.  :-)

It's Saturday at 11 am and all six of us are hanging out in the family room, coloring, watching TV and for me.. I'm blogging.  :-)  Our Thanksgiving is in two and a half weeks, so we're starting to plan the menu and the table setting, etc.  THEN.. we will start decorating for Christmas.  I'm looking forward to seeing how the boys enjoy Christmas this year.  I hope you're having a nice weekend.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. That really is a wonderful story. I'm so glad they were able to reunite. Elsie looks like such a sweet lady. I would love to be a home ec teacher myself (I used to teach English) and I wish more colleges were still accredited to give teachers licenses to teach home ec. It's a dying field. Hayden looks adorable with the pumpkins stuck all over him! What a cute little guy he is. Hope you have a great weekend. :)

  3. What a wonderful story. You can tell that she made an impact on so many of her students! I have been out of school for,,,(cough)...39 years and there are some teachers that I do remember. I have one in grade school that I had that really helped me as I was so shy. Never made a big deal of it. Just made me feel special and accepted. One in high school that didn't compare me to my older brother. Who was a lot more out-going. I was treated as Teresa, not Steve's younger sister. That meant so much to me. I should really reach out let him know how much I appreciated how he treated me. Especially since he became a principal years later and had to deal with some major stuff happening in his school. You know that song...To sir, with love. That is the way I feel about him. Not romantic love, of course. I mean just a deep apppreciation of who he was in my life. Yes, there was many teachers who were good to me. He just stands out. Thank you for reminding me.
Hayden looks adorable with all the pumpkins. So happy. I bet you have lots of turkeys now to decorate with! I just love how close your family is!

  4. What a great story! I've seen that book somewhere recently, I think. Now I need to get it. I enjoy reading stories like that. I am celebrating early with my sister for Thanksgiving/Christmas a few weeks from now. So tonight I am making a few pie crusts and then they will be frozen til I need them. Will take a pie to my sister's in WA. She loves to cook. I'd rather bake! But we must eat!

  13. How special was that reunion of 2 people who hadn't seen each other in so many years! You are gonna have to read your book and give us all a review. I am sure this Christmas will be special for you, but not as special as it will be for all your little guys. That is what makes this holiday so much fun, children!

  14. A lovely story Teresa and as a retired teacher I appreciated hearing it. I sometimes meet with past pupils and it's good to be remembered fondly.
Doesn't seem five mins since you were telling us about Thanksgiving last year. Hugs Anne x
