The Iris Bloomed

Hello and thanks for visiting today!  If you're a regular reader, you know I bought 3 pots of bulbs that would be a surprise on color.  First to bloom were some adorable bright yellow Narcissus.  Next to bloom was a white Hyacinth.  The fragrance from that one is simply exotic and perfume-y.  Yesterday morning my little Iris bloomed!  It's so cute, you would not believe it.  Now, my camera was not able to capture the pure rich dark purple of the flower.. I do not know why.. but it shows as dark blue.  It's not.. it's purple!

I have them in 3 different sizes of glass hurricanes/cache pots etched with ferns.  I have to say, they catch the light in beautiful ways.  I found them on Amazon at 1/4 the price that the set of 3 are on other websites.  I had one big one but just recently added the other 2.  (Like 2 days ago.  :-)

Just picture these dark purple.  :-)

We had sun slanting in when I took these.. now it's cloudy.. mercurial weather of Oregon.

Don't you just love the white and yellow markings on the Iris petals?

One of my Christmas Cactus has a new little bloom.. it's the red-orange one with whitish throats on the petals.  I have a white with pink centers and my favorite, my mom's, that is white and fuchsia around the petals.  Zygotes.

I hope you've enjoyed my attempt at brightening up January! :-)

NOW.. let's talk Downtown Abbey - Season 4.  ::sigh::  I am not happy with what happened to Anna on last Sunday's episode.   And I'm not happy with that Edna Braithwaite, the maid who was rightly let go after going after Tom.. now it looks like she drugged him and slipped into his room!  Can't we just have happy stuff?  Huh?

I'm leaving in a bit for a lunch at my little sister Denise's home.  She's making salmon, the other girls are bringing some things and I'm stopping at a little indie bakery in Hillsdale to pick up some fresh baked bread.  It's the same bakery that Alicia Paulson goes to.  I'm taking my crocheting to get some work done on it while we chat.  I swam with Gracie yesterday.. we chat up and down the pool, it's fun and makes the time fly by.  Well, time to get ready.  Thanks for visiting!!  What are you up to this week?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. You have indeed warmed up my day and brightened my corner of this wintery freezing place. I was beginning to think I lived in Alaska instead of Ohio. last week was simply terrible, level 3 snow emergencies all over the place and stuck in the house for 4 days. I was glad and so blessed that my power did not go off and that no pipes froze. I did shut off 2 bedrooms to save on heating fuel and so I am so very far behind with posting and visiting and leaving my 2 cents worth among the blogs whether they want it or not, lol. Your flowers are lovely. My amaryllis has finally finished its blooming and the flowers have wilted. The greenery still looks good though and I imagine it is like any bulb that gets its nutrition from the leaves and then they die off. I really need to research them on here. I posted my giveaway just a little while ago so I am back in business for now. Keep warm.

  5. I just love those little irises. I had one in the backyard in our raised planter bed which bloomed every year until last year. I really hope it comes back this year because it's so pretty and it's like clockwork, it blooms in the first few days of March. I agree with you about Downton, it's getting a little too evil around there lately, even for that bunch!

It is SO nice to see flowers--I am more than eager to see the bulbs and buds of spring...and maybe a week or two of sunshine too!

  9. Well done, Teresa! The flower photos are especially beautiful as are your words describing them. Hope you had a good lunch with your sisters today. I spent most of the day focused on little grandies. Reading and some art work was done, cuddling of baby Rose, and catching of Joy :) Hope to see you tomorrow!

  11. The irises are so pretty - they're a flower I really like. In their previous house, my parents had various colours of bearded irises growing in around their pond. I watched the first season of Downton, but haven't watched any of the other series. I enjoyed it, but wondered if it would get a bit too dramatic as time went on in an attempt to retain viewers.

  13. I love the iris. It is Tennessee's state flower and I use to have lots of them in my yard but I became unable to work with them and they reached the point where they stopped growing. I still have a few scattered around and love to see them every spring. I was totally upset about what happened to Anna. I'm afraid Tom is going to be in big trouble because of Edna. Hope you had a wonderful lunch with your sister. Hugs, Sharon

  14. We are having our first full week of school since we were out for Christmas Break. Our weather has been uncooperative, so things are a bit behind schedule!

  16. Mrs. Teresa your iris is lovely. I love the blue color your camera interpreted it as. If only..but blue is my favorite color.
I have tried but I just cannot get into Downton Abbey. I have tried but I find I lose interest about 15 minutes in.
    Hugs

  18. Somehow I missed this post! How did that happen? Anyway, your iris is just beautiful and I so agree with you about Downton. It almost makes me want to stop watching it. I love the house and the beautiful gowns and that's the main reason I watch. I'm glad you had a good time at your luncheon.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
