Starting a Shawl

Hello there!  How is your weekend going?  I worked on a newsletter for the Friends of Multnomah Falls yesterday and so today I decided I needed an antidote to desktop publishing - I needed to work with my hands and create wearable art!  I want to make something that will live on after I'm gone.  :-)  So, I have begun my Elise shawl.  I have the chart and the instructions.. and I find that going by the chart is easier for my particular brain make-up.  Meredith.. are you happy now?  LOL!!

So far so good.. this is wonderful yarn.  Oh, I'm using my newish H hook by Celtic Swan.  It's divine.  It recommends an I hook, but I want it to be denser and less airy, I hope this is a good idea.  The photo on the pattern makes it look so open and lacy it's almost invisible.

This is just a quick post because.. I'm boring today.  :-D

And I want to get back to my crochet.  I'm reading "The Goldfinch".  Goodness.. what a read.  Can you give me a book suggestion for my next one?  OK, tata for now.. I hope you have a nice week ahead.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. The yarn looks lovely and a fabulous, vibrant colour. Can't wait to see it complete.
Can't help with the book as I have been trying to read the same one for 2 years...I need more hours in the day :) x

  2. A very bright and pretty color. It looks very complicated to create. I look forward to seeing it finished. Hugs Judy

  3. I've heard that Goldfinch book is an excellent read. Didn't sound that good from the write-up, but I guess it is. Enjoy your shawl-making. I'm listening to 80's music today and crocheting on that Japanese baby shawl. Good times.

  4. It's going to be beautiful. I know someone I will really have to make an Elise shawl for someday. But I'll wait until she's more shawl-ready. :)

  6. Ooh that is going to be very pretty shawl Teresa. I don't do very well with charts. Written directions seem so much clearer to me. Must be my brain make-up! :-). Have fun with that delicious yarn.
I'm going to hobby lobby tomorrow to see if I can find #30 thread for your doily. I'm on row 13 up using 10 and I can tell already that it will be way too big.

  7. Teresa, your chart is interesting and I like the new form. I Just finished a fluff book: Manhunt that was part of a winter book/yarn exchange. Funny fluff read!

We have been working our fingers to the bone in the yards this weekend. Just took my shower and am relaxing now in my recliner with yarn nearby.

  11. Hooray for charts! I love them. Also love your new header photo. :)

I am re-reading the Little House series, and reading (for the first time) "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry", which was recommended to me by another blogger. All excellent.

  14. I think that will be gorgeous when finished. I will have to look up he Goldfinch. I haven't heard of that one. I should learn to crochet. You and Maredith make so many pretty things. I just can't seem to get the hang of holding the yarn.

  15. The shawl looks complicated, but I've seen a finished one and they are beautiful. For a good read, I'd recommend "Northern Lights" by Philip Pullman. If you enjoy it, there are two more, "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass". His storytelling takes my breath away. He's been called the greatest living storyteller, and I don't think it's any exaggeration. Hope you have a good week Teresa.

  20. The red is gorgeous, the chart was so much easier to understand than the written directions, I love it. I am so glad you have gotten started with it.

  21. Heavens, I am afraid to back track on all the postings I have missed these few weeks and so I come here and see that you are getting a good start on the shawl pattern. I felt the same way when I made the 3 I did. I found the chart so much easier to follow. The yarn you are making it of is so vibrant and so red, wow. My intentions to give them to sister-in-laws kinda fizzled out and I gave one to my mom. I took 2 over to her house and left her pick the color she liked. Hope you are staying warm this winter. we are just short 1/2 inch of the record breaker of 74 inches. It is warming up and tomorrow they are calling for rain. Everyone is in a panic, there will be flooding.
