Fall and the Farm Store

September is here.. Summer is history.. I know Autumn does not officially begin until September 23rd.. but who's going to tell the trees this news?

The Maples have not gotten that memo.  Turn back to green, it's not Autumn yet!

But I'm in sync with the maples.  The kids are in school, the light is at a different angle in the sky, the sun sets at 7:40 pm, the air is different somehow.

We went out to lunch at Biscuits restaurant yesterday and oddly enough had a cheeseburger.  But I've been thinking of biscuits ever since.  I want to try my brother's biscuit recipe.  We went to farm and feed store to pick up wild bird seed, koi food, and a few things we didn't know we needed.. and I was surprised to see they were selling baby chicks!  I thought they only sold them in the Spring.  Hmm.  They sure are cute.

I think these golden ones are Buff Orpingtons.

They had some cute bunnies, too.  Sorry, I can't imagine eating one of these.

Toot widdle bunners.

Then off to the grocery store and what do my eyes behold?  AUTUMN!  Huge bins of pumpkins marching across the front of the store.. oh how I wanted that perfect shaped white one there.  But I refrained.

Big bright spotted orange flat ones.

Are you seeing what I am seeing?  PINK ones???  Oh my.. I should have gotten that pink one bottom left.  PINK pumpkins!  Oh my!

Inside the store in the produce section they had these cute little mini white ones next to some mini orange ones.  Soon a few of these will find their way into my cart.

I "Waterlogue-d" my sunflower photo.. oh how I love that app!

Dayle brought in one of our last roses of the summer and put it in a vase for me.  Can you say awwww?  It's a Double Delight.

I Waterlogued the rose, too.

I am off soon to lunch with my sisters and Shirley.  We're going to the Claim Jumper restaurant.  I know what I'm having already.. the chicken pot pie.  Oh yes I am.  Shall I take a photo for you?  :-)  OK!  I will.  I hope your week is full of happiness and new adventures.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. Chicken pot pie sounds delicious. We are far from Fall here, it is hot, humid and gross out. Maybe I should put up some Fall decorations inside to make me at least think it is almost Autumn. Hope you all had a wonderful lunch together.

  5. Teresa your leaves are so far ahead of ours! And it sounds like the sun is setting there at the same time as here. Time to transition. LOVE the variety of pumpkins!

  6. Bring on autumn - looking forward to cooler days & evenings.

The Blue Doll pumpkins have such character.

Does Claim Jumper still sell their huge chocolate cake slices?
They're so big, it takes at least three people to eat one.

  7. I can't wait for the leaves to turn here. It's still so stinkin' hot! 97 right this minute. Love those white pumpkins! I saw some crocheted white ones last year that were so pretty. I may have to make a couple of them this year. Definitely try your brother's biscuit recipe and be sure to pass it along. Don't be holding out on us! :)

  10. I love a good feed store. My preferred one has so much good stuff, hardly anything I need, but I can spend hours there. Plus they sell cowboy boots and clothes and outdoorsy clothes too, so it's one-stop fantasy shopping. :) I'm pretty sure those chicks are Buff Orpingtons; my pal, Ginger, looked just like that when he was a baby chick (before he became a giant man-chicken, haha).

  11. I remember having the chicken pot pie with you at Claim Jumpers. Yum!!!! I know it's almost fall and I, too, feel that nip in the air and I'm enjoying snuggling down under the down comforter at night, but I'm NOT ready for fall. I know it will come anyway even if I'm not ready for it. :-). I do like the pumpkins though and will get some mini ones soon for decorating. We have lots in of mini pumpkins in our garden at the lake and also some pie pumpkins.
    Blessings Teresa,
    Betsy

  13. Autumn is definitely showing up around you whether the calendar agrees or not, Teresa :-) I love all the photos and "Waterlogue" paintings! Hope you enjoy your chicken pot pie and sisters lunch. The dentist did a great job on my tooth and my new glasses are ordered [a little bit glamorous :-)] Hope we can swim tomorrow! xx

  14. I am growing some of the flat, orange pumpkins this year. My white ones didn't do very well. Oh well! Fall is my favorite time of the year. Cannot wait for some cooler temps.

  15. I can't believe Summer is over already! It went by SO fast! I didn't know they sold chicks at this time of year either. Interesting! Those "Waterlogued" photos are great! Looks like fun!

  16. While you're welcoming autumn, I'm so glad to see the end of winter here. The sun is shining today but its still a bit cool outside. (All the more reason to stay inside and crochet) .... I still can't get used to the different names our countries have for certain things. Here, biscuits are small sweet things you have with a cup of tea or coffee. I'll do a blog post one day with pictures and hope someone will respond with whatever your equiivalents are. Anyway, I was amused by the restaurant name "Biscuits" .. Love all your photos, and especially the one of those gorgeous bunnies. xox

  18. I was surprised about them selling the baby chicks. Like you, I thought they were only available in the Spring. I can remember as a youngster we got some for Easter and when they got a bit bigger they were whisked away to go live on the farm. Personally I hated that and was at the age where I did not realize they would end up on the dinner table somewhere. I have not seen any pumpkins out for sale yet, but haven't been looking either. It is kinda sad that summer has just zipped by. I like the Waterlogue app too. It makes such a pretty presentation. My friend with the church picture left today for her painting workshop. maybe you have heard of Dorothy Dent? She is good friends with the artist and will be seeing her. Oh everyone is doing something interesting. I am just doing my thing which is to knit some hats for charity and crochet some slippers for the Pink Slipper Charity. Other than that I am puttering around the house and babysit in the morning. Enjoy your week.
    (((HUGS))) Susanne :)

  19. Loved your beautiful autumn pictures today, such wonderful colours! The leaves are gorgeous, and I was so happy to see the white pumpkins and pink ones too!! I hope I can find a white one here again this year, but I doubt if we will be able to get a pink one.......It is very autumnal here too, as you say it is something in the air...and the light changing....Happy September, Teresa!

  20. We've been getting quite a few chicks in at the post office. Wilco in Canby just received a couple of hundred.
I have an android phone and I am waiting for that app to come over to my side. I'm partial to watercolors.

  25. Just catching up here. Life looks good, full, and definitely autumnal. Summer is staging a last hurrah in Wales, but the first few leaves are turning all the same.

  26. Great pictures as always my dear friend. I just love all the pumpkins, never seen a pink one before... It seems strange, do you think they added a dye ? I absolutely love the waterlogged pictures, what is the name of the app?
