Moon Rocks

Hello my friends!  I know I promised to share with you some of our old family photos of our time in Louisiana, but life got in the way.  We will have to go through old photo albums, find the photos, remove them, scan them, and I will have to fiddle with them like cropping and brightening, etc.  In other words, it's not a fast procedure.  We still plan to do it, but... Sunday we spent the day visiting our older son's family and going to see the house they are having built.  Then today I had my DAR meeting, then swimming with Gracie.  So.. I'll have to make do with photos I've taken over the last few days.  The other evening my son Travis and his wife were hanging out on the deck and called to me that the moon was orange.  Say no more, I grabbed my new camera to experiment how it would do with a 30 zoom instead of a 20.  Oh. My. Goodness!  I'm so happy with the image I got!  WAY better than my other Lumix!  It's a few days from full on this one, but I love seeing all that detail!

Dayle and I headed home around 6:30 pm and I said.. let's go see if the moon is up at Portland Women's Forum.. I first snapped this of Vista House and the Columbia River Gorge - I just love the pastel pink sky and deepening hues of the blue cliffs of the gorge and the silver pink river.

A bit closer.. so pretty.

I then turned my attention to the yellow orange moon.  Have you ever noticed it has a belly button?

Heading back towards the West to our farmhouse, I pulled off the road so we could snap this shot of the sunset over the coast mountain range.

Dayle was snapping these out of our car window and when I downloaded them onto my computer and into iPhoto, we were delighted to see we captured a jet plane flying into PDX airport!

Then.. later after the gold of the moon was gone, and it was higher in the sky, from our deck behind the farmhouse, I got this beauty.  I'm in love!  Moon shots are one of the most favorite things I hoped to get on a camera, and why I bought that frustrating BIG fancy camera (which the shots I got on it were just plain white spots).  My new LUMIX has made the grade.  I'm thrilled.

On Saturday I took a day off.. and crocheted my 4th rock "cozy".  You either GET IT, or you don't.  Which category are YOU?  Love crocheted rocks.. or think it's simply ridiculous?

I seriously need to crochet another rock cozy asap as an artistic display always has an odd number.. 4 won't do.  Right?  Do you like my granite rock vase?  I think it goes well with the rock cozies.

An odd thing happened, we ran across this photo of Dayle while looking for New Orleans photos and then the next day my sister sent me a scan of this photo which I must have given to her.  I did a little photoshopping on it, removing some yellowing and zapping out some dust and it looks good!  This is my guy at the helm of Stargazer as we sailed up the Columbia River towards Hood River.  It was a great day.

This is our son Shawn, his wife Beth, their boys Michael and Gabriel in front of the house they are having built.  Notice the tall garage door?  It's for their "toy hauler" 5th wheel trailer.  :-)  NOTE: The garage doors will be painted to match the grey siding.

I will show you more photos when things are done.  But it's a nice house!  Now - the New Orleans retrospective is going to have to wait longer, because I talked hubby into going to Kahneeta Hot Springs Resort tomorrow, and something  fun came up which I'll tell you about soon.. it involves a further trip and an overnight adventure.. talk to you soon!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. So many beautiful photos!!! Well done, Teresa! I hope you have fun at Kahneeta and on your overnight trip :) xx

  5. Fabulous pictures and you know I am crazy for a full moon shot and certainly crazy as I do love a
crocheted rock, although have not made one.....yet lol Great shot of Dayle and noticed the can of Budweiser....I had a can or 2 when I visited LA many moons ago ☺ What fabulous house and my man
here would love that garage for our 5th wheeler lol

  6. Fantastic photos, I too am always awestruck - or should I say Moonstruck!!- by the moon!

Would love to hear more about your camera, I am currently on the look out for a new one.

  7. What gorgeous photos Teresa especially the moon ones...they certainly rock. We are off in the morning to Rhodes for the week...we are really looking forward to this break and some relaxation..see you soon. Take care xx

  8. Amazing photos of the moon very impressive. Also a very impressive house.

  9. Awesome photos of the gorge! I also especially liked the photo of the jet against the beautiful sky!

  10. Hi there Teresa, Love your photos, they are super detailed and beautiful! Love them all, but I love the one where you captured the jet. The shot of Dayle is so cute. (note: he probably wouldn't want to hear cute) Excited for you two on your trip and can't wait to hear about your adventure!
ps. the moon shots are stunning

  11. Wow, the moon photos are stunning. That's some great camera you got, but I suspect the photographer has something to do with it as well! ; ) The sunsets are also beautiful.

Your son's house is very pretty. I like the mix of materials.

  12. Isn't it a beautiful moon?
I hadn't noticed a belly button before. -chuckle.
    Yes to crocheted rocks.

  13. I love your FAB moon pictures! And you know I'm a crocheted rock lover. I think they are beautiful. What I am not a fan of and do not "get" is crocheted food of any kind. It just seems silly to me with no point whatsoever, but that's just my opinion. I know lots of people like crocheting cupcakes and bacon and eggs and cookies and cakes. Whatever! I hope they have fun with it, but you're not gonna see any furry food around this house...unless it's in the fridge growing. hahaha!

  14. Your pictures are amazing! I love this one with the moon!
    Have a nice day!

  15. Wow Teresa the photos of the moon are amazing. All the others are brilliant as well!! Your son's house looks so lovely. have to admit am feeling envious :-) I do like the rock cosies and I think they look really good with the vase. Have fun with all that you are doing. Looking forward to seeing the New Orleans photos when you are able to get them sorted. Hugs Anne x

  16. LOL. Totally understand the "life" thing:) Love the moon and sunset shots-nice! Neat boat photo also. Have a great time at Kah-Nee-Ta and elsewhere:)
PS: Definitely in the 'love' crocheted rock camp!

  17. These are the most beautiful photos of the moon I have ever seen, they are amazing. I did not see the full moon until this morning while driving to work, it broke through the clouds are was just gorgeous.
Love the photo of Dayle and oh my that new house is going to be perfect.

  18. Your moon and sky images are just so pretty! I never did notice that belly button before

  19. I love the moon shots. They are terrific. The moon sure was full these past several nights and still full in the morning. We had some fog, but not enough to keep the school buses from running. I get the rocks. A couple years ago I downloaded some patterns and of course they are among all the other patterns that are in the process of being sorted. maybe someday I will do me a few. Yes, they say an odd number for a grouping is better than an even number, go figure. Well, I am off to bed. I canned 14 quarts of spaghetti sauce when I came home from babysitting all day today. I will be getting the stuff around for the giveaway.
    have a good week,
    (((HUGS))) Susanne :)

  20. Awesome shots of the moon - what a fantastic camera. Like your stones too. xox

  21. Your photos are breath taking. I truly adore the ones with the splashes of pink across the sky. So pretty. I don't really get the rock thing, but I think they are pretty and if it makes you happy, that is all that matters. :) Your Son's new home is lovely. Looking forward to hearing all about the new adventure. ((hugs)) to you sweet friend. :)

  22. Beautiful photos with your wonderful new camera, Teresa. And you also have a good eye for choosing what to photograph! I love the crochet covered rocks very much and wish I had some like that! Lovely photo of Dayle :) And what a great new house your son and his family are building!
    Happy week!
    Helen xox
