Blood Moon and New Bag

::Yawn::... I got out of bed at 3:48.. yes, in the MIDDLE of the night, to see if I could get a photo of the "Blood Moon".  Dear Readers, that is dedication.  A Blood Moon appears after a lunar eclipse.  I wanted to see this with my own two eyes.  I was skeptical.  I was amazed to see the color of the moon!  It WAS red!  Now, I must tell you that there was such low light that my photo is very grainy.. dang it.. but still, you get the idea.  I took several shots and I should have used a tripod, but I didn't.. I was up for 15 minutes and then climbed back into bed.  Have you ever seen the moon like this?

Here is my shot of the moon earlier, right after it rose.  Oh Moon, how do I love thee?  Let me count the ways...

Yesterday I made a second eyeglasses case with my Pendleton wool blanket fabric.. I thought it would be nice beveled at the bottom and then I got the idea to wrap the edge with buckskin.  I sewed it on with synthetic sinew, I had initially thought I'd sew through the leather but that was SOOOO difficult that I decided to sew OVER the leather.  Yes, you've never seen this done and neither had I.. so I guess I'm a innovator.  :-)

I made a little tab of a bit of the leather I'd cut for the edging and sewed it on and made a button hole and sewed on a daisy shaped abalone button that I actually got from Cath Kidston in England!  The local Indians used abalone a lot for decorative purposes on the clothes and jewelry.

I'm happy with the finished product, although it might need further embellishment.. or not. It not only fits my glasses, but also a nice fit for my iPhone!  :-)  I'm so enjoying making these little bags by hand and using my imagination!  I hope you try it.. and if you do.. share your photo with me.

My DIL Kristi got a new camera not long ago.. she sat outside for hours trying to capture good images of the moon during and after the eclipse.  Here are a few of her best ones.  The beginning of the eclipse.

Kristi captured an amazing red color in this shot!

I just found this image on the net.. I wonder what kind of camera captured this!

I hope you enjoyed these moon images.  Dayle and I are headed off soon to a party for my friend Sally that I worked with at Vista House - it's her 73rd birthday and a retirement party from her 30+ years of dedicating her life to VH - she was the heart of the place.  I was the Executive Director there for 15 years, I hired Sally and made her the Assistant Manager.  She did so much to make the place run and also was the Volunteer Coordinator.  It's the end of an era for her to leave Vista House in the hands of a new generation of management.  This is a surprise party, but I know she doesn't read my blog.  :-)  Have a super day.. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. Great moon shots. Very strange to see the moon that colour. I am impressed with your second bag. Great innovation and it looks good too. I think somewhere my Dad has a little leather punch, it makes the holes for you. If you were nearer I could pop it round. ;) xx

  7. Teresa, thank you for sharing the wonderful pix with us all! I can't help but wonder how frightened people of the world were hundreds of years ago when seeing a blood moon without any explanation.

  11. Brilliant! The moon shots are amazing, and I am so impressed you got up so early to take your photos. I wimped out...still trying to recover from my three weeks away :-) I love the way you incorporated the leather in your design. It not only finishes the case nicely, but I bet it will help it wear longer, too. My youngest daughter came with me today to try out the pool. She walked for therapy for her hip while I swam laps and we had the pool almost all to ourselves! Missed you, though. xx

  14. I some good pictures of the eclipse. But the clouds came in before the moon turned red. But I got all but the last remaining sliver of the moon. I was up from 4:15 until about 5:00. It was so interesting to see how fast the moon disappeared. I love your pictures. I wish I could have seen the red moon. But maybe another time.

  18. We were out for our walk at 5:45 and were able to see the blood moon very well. I actually thought of you and your previous moon pictures that morning! I didn't take my camera along, but I doubt mine could have gotten anything very clear.

  21. Your moon photos are incredible. I didn't even know it was going to be a blood moon/eclipse until I got up and was taking Max out at 6:00, it was beautiful. I tried to get my camera and it just did not photograph well. It was more of a pale orange from my house. Good luck to your friend Sally.
    Hugs,
    Meredith

  24. Hi Teresa, wonderful photos of the moon! We had excellent viewing from here in Tasmania at a very civilized 8pm. I didn't get any shots this time around but I did the last time. I think we have 2 more chances next year so fingers crossed for good weather the next time around. Love your case, very clever the way you did the binding...Mel x
