Roaring Falls, Girls and Book Review

Hello my friends.  Thanks for dropping by.  My sister Denise and I volunteered at Multnomah Falls yesterday, and with all the rain we've had, the falls was full and roaring!  During a deluge, I hiked up to the viewing plaza and under the cover of an umbrella managed to snap a few photos.  I also took a photo of a couple of girls for them with their iPhone.

This photo is fuzzy, but it really wasn't easy trying to hold an umbrella and take a photo.

Then for the heck of it, I snapped one with my iPhone.  Which one do you like best?  This one or the first one?  Can you see the rain drops falling?

The beautiful Multnomah Falls Lodge, I just love this stone building.

After we closed down the Visitors Center, sis and I met our two husbands for a steak dinner at Bumpers Grill & Bar in Wood Village.  I forgot to take a photo of our filet mignon.. but you've seen them before.. lol!

Steve ordered an apple dumpling with 4 spoons.  :-)  It was a whole peeled apple, wrapped in dumpling dough and baked, served atop warm caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.  Yum!

My two granddaughters got their school pictures back, here is my sweet Jenna, she's growing up so fast!  My daughter Amy enrolled her in sewing and crochet classes and she sewed her own pillow case and has crocheted cute things.. I just wish I was close enough that I could teach her things that I know and sit with her and make things.

Here is Paige, she is missing her two front teeth too.  She's such a character, she loves to sing and dance and make jokes.  She's a cuddly little girl too, much to my daughter's delight.  Oh how I miss them!

I just finished the book below.. I couldn't put it down.  It's set in Amsterdam in 1686.  This is the author's first novel and my goodness, does she have an imagination!  I was drawn to buy this book for my iPad because I love miniature things.. I have a Victorian dollhouse.  There are some shocking things in this book, so don't hold that against me if you read it.  :-)  But it will make you glad you live in our enlightened society!  I think.  :-)

I have had a bit of a relapse - stuffed up head, so no swimming today (perhaps I shouldn't have hiked up to the falls in pouring rain?) - but we'll still be heading to the coast on Sunday.  My next post will be from there.  :-)  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. The falls look so beautiful, I would love to visit!

Sounds like you all had a delicious meal, the pudding sounds especially yummy!

You must be so proud of your girls, I can understand how much you must miss them.

Hope all goes well with the preparation for your break, it will do you good to breath in some sea air. Looking forward to seeing some photos of the ocean!

  2. The comparison of the photos from your phone and camera are so interesting...I like both. In some ways the iPhone the best I think. Your dear girls are lovely and it is fun to watch them grow through your posts, even from afar. I sympathize with how you feel though, in missing my far away grandsons. So sorry you will miss swimming today and hope you can throw off the tag end of your cold soon. Have a wonderful time at the beach! I may try to drive over and say "Hi" one day :)

  4. Love the shots of the falls and lodge. I miss them. I think I've actually only stopped once when the sun was out. All other times it was at least sprinkling a bit. Usually we zip on by on the interstate and I wave at the falls. Really I do wave. Your girls are growing up so fast. Can you skype or FaceTime with them and craft with each other that way. Imperfect I know but better than nothing. It's how I have to.
communicate with our grandkids and kids most of the time. I hope your cold disappears quickly and your time at the coast is wonderful.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Love the Multnomah falls photos. Glad it is running more now. We had our two grandchildren here for three hours this evening. Had a good time. Melody, 6, read a book to me all on her own. Owen, 3,has quite the imagination. Sorry you cannot be closer to your granddaughters. Thanks for sharing their photos. Get to feeling better soon. My daugher's cough is still around but it is getting better too. Have fun at the coast!

  9. What a difference some rain makes! I rather like the falls being so full and I, too, have always loved the Multnomah Falls Lodge. Your granddaughters are beautiful! I am not surprised that Jenna would take after you in crafts. You could teach her some of the things you know by Skype...I know it wouldn't be the same (sigh), but it might be fun. Hope your congestion clears in time for your trip to the coast this Sunday. Safe travels.
    Blessings,
    Aimee
PS: Your photo of the apple dumpling looks fabulous! Mmm

  11. Those falls are simply stunning! And I too, love that stone building! I wish we would get some of that rain here!
The girls certainly are growing up! How old is Jenna? I tried to teach Hannah to crochet, but she didn't have the dexterity just yet.
Rest today, and enjoy your week camping. I will look very forward to your next post!

  12. I hope you feel better soon, Teresa. My husband ended up with a pretty bad cold but I'm feeling fine, so I'm sure it will be my turn next. The girls' photos are so nice, they are both getting really big. I'm glad to hear Jenna enjoys sewing and crochet, that's wonderful. Your dinner with your sis and her husband looked like fun and your dessert sounds delicious. I hope you have a good weekend.
