First Baby Guinea Pig Completed

Why am I crocheting a baby guinea pig, you ask?  WELL.. my only daughter, Amy, had two adorable daughters whom I love very much.  I was in grandma heaven and visited often to help out my daughter and bond with my little darlings.  They lived just 40 minutes away.  THEN.. 3 1/2 years ago they moved to Ohio to be near her husband's family.  3000 miles away.  I am broken hearted that I only get to see my girls about once a year.  Several days ago my oldest granddaughter, Jenna, emailed me and asked if I would crochet a baby guinea pig for her.  Well, of course my little darling!  She even sent a link to a pattern.  I went to Craft Warehouse to find some white and black fuzzy yarn and found just the thing in a alpaca blend.  Here is the first completed piggie.

This yarn is so soft and wonderful.. but I have to say, the black is DIFFICULT to crochet as I can only do it in the bright light of day as it's VERY hard to see the stitches and count them.  This is the head and front legs and the beginning of the back end.

The two models.. the next one will be a challenge with the way the white stripes the face.  I am making "babies" for both of their real guinea pigs.

Here is the pig sans ears and back legs.  It is actually about the size of a real egg!

Done.. with ears and back legs!  :-)

I think it turned out pretty life-like, don't you?  MEEP MEEP!  Next up to make the 2nd one and then box up these babies and have them fly to Ohio.  I can't wait to see how the girls like them.  :-)

As we drove out beside the Columbia River yesterday after shopping at Costco, Mt. Hood was looking quite beautiful.  This is a zoomed in iPhone photo and is pretty awful in clarity - but I thought you'd be able to get an idea how pretty it was.

As we exited the freeway at Troutdale, this was what we saw.  This was also taken with the iPhone.. but I think it turned out pretty nice!  I love that the water tower is silhouetted against the sky.

I just had to show you this lantern and tell you the story of it.  My blog friend Nicole and the Bee showed her family's holiday table all set up for a feast and I saw these REALLY COOL porcelain lanterns on the table.  (Click on her link and scroll down to see her table)  I mentioned in my comment how I loved them, and I tried to find some on the 'net, but had no luck.  So, she did some research and found some for me!!  How sweet is that?  This arrived and I've lit it each night, even though it's for Christmas!  LOL!  Thank you, Nicole!

Well, I better wrap this up and pack my swim bag.  I'm meeting Gracie and Taci for lunch and then Gracie and I will head off to swim.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

The latern is also fab ~ I bought myself one from the German Christmas market in Edinburgh ~ mine has the Edinburgh sky line on it. They don't look like much in the daylight but when they are lit in the dark they are beautiful :O)x
