Valentines, Hat #6 and Purple Ball Jar

Hello my friend... thanks for stopping by for a visit!  We are having a very cozy, easy going weekend.  I pulled out my clipboard, fountain pen and the Valentine cards I designed and printed and spent many enjoyable hours writing greetings and even used my calligraphy pen.  One is flying to Australia, others to England, some across the United States, North, South, East and West.  Some I will deliver in person this week.  :-)

And this sentiment is for you.  :-)

Are you familiar with the re-issue of colored jars by Ball?  Well.. I adore them.  They first brought them out in blue, then last year they brought out green ones and then I learned they just brought them out in purple!  They were not in the stores here so I ordered a box of 6 of them from Amazon and 2 days later here they were.  What do you think?

I love that they are Made in the USA.

The 2 quart one on the right is the vintage original.  The ones on the left are the new purple pint, the green quart and the first new one, the blue pint.  We use them for drinking glasses and many other things.

Which color do you like the best?  They are reasonable priced, I got the 6 purple ones for $10.99 - free shipping!

I made my 6th hat yesterday after I finished making my Valentines.  I thought red was appropriate.  I really like the lacy design of the shells.

I've made 4 girls hats for Taci's "Hats for Brazilian Babies" project. Be sure to also check out Sue's hat designs for this project -- Mrs. Micawber Blog.

And 2 boy hats.  I might try to make 4 more for an even 10.  :-)

I used my Drops fine cotton to make this flower.  It's pretty small!  :-)  When I'm making these hats I'm thinking of the newborn babies that these will warm and hoping for a bright future for them and their mother's.  Taci will be taking them to Brazil and with her mother will take them to a village where they are needed.

I was in our bedroom and glanced out the window and was amazed to see the flowering Quince tree with fresh new green leaves.. oh my goodness!  Can you believe what a mild winter we're having here in Oregon, USA?

Just quite something, it is.

Dayle and Travis are watching The Hobbit on TV.  I think I might just start another hat! :-)  Today is for relaxing.  I hope your day is/was a good one.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. We are having a relaxing day too. I've been knitting and Ken's been snoring on the couch. He's grilling some brats a little later for our dinner. I love the Ball jars! I have a green one, but I haven't seen the purple ones yet. I will definitely be getting one or two or three when I see them. I order their white, plastic, screw-on lids online. They look better and are just easier to use if you're not canning. They used to be in stores, but I haven't seen them in a long time. Your hats are grrrreat!

  2. Purple, purple, purple! I had no idea they have purple jars. I need to get on Amazon right away! Your hats are so cute Teresa. I want to make more also, but I have three blankets to put together for Bundles of Love first. They are need by the end of January so I'll finish those and then make a couple more hats.
It's 62 F here today! Can you believe it? I know winter isn't over yet, but each nice day we have is one day closer to spring, right? And now I'm going to go take Chloe for a walk as soon as Dennis finished changing some light switches.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. I haven't seen the purple jars yet. I think we still have the blue ones, in 2 pint size at the hardware store where I work. I've not bought them yet, but might since I collect blue Ball jars. I have some older ones that I use in the kitchen. I want purple ones since I like purple too! We are in the 50s here now, not as cold out these past few days. And rain. My neighbor's daffodils are blooming, mine will be soon, since they are a later variety. We watched Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday and it was good!! Take care and have a good week!!

  7. I can't wait to get my hands on some of the purple jars. I've been getting every color since they started bringing them back out. Before that, I collected the old ones. I love canning jars! Yeah....this is a weird winter. I saw a picture today of Glacier National Park and an area that would normally be deep in snow but it had none. Our trees are all budding out with new leaves and some of the flowering trees are loaded with flowers already. It's so early!

  10. Shoot - just lost my comment. What's up with blogger? Trying again....

Your hats look so cute all lined up like that - and thanks for the shout out. I need to make some boy hats too, but somehow the girlie ones are more fun. :)

We love Ball jars too, and have quite a few of both clear and old blue ones. I hadn't seen the new coloured ones, but they are very tempting.

Can't believe you're already having spring!

  12. I spent time with me Grandson, which was lovely. The Valentines cards and hearts are a delight. I am a great fan of the jars, they are so versatile. We too, have had a mild winter with signs of Spring poking through.

  13. Lovely hats, I'm enjoying seeing various people make them, everyone wants to help, it's so nice. Taci with have a good selection to take with her I think. I love the jars, the English versions are called Kilner jars. They've been around since 1842, and they're still going strong. You can't beat glass for storing things can you. I love the blue ones, so pretty. I hope you and yours have a lovely week, like you, I can't believe your flowering quince has leaves already. I hope there isn't a late freeze. CJ xx

  14. I'm not familiar with those jars but they are all pretty - my fave would probably be the blue one though. We're also having funny weather here too - supposed to be summer but we haven't had many of our usual scorcher days, just mild, even cool ones occasionally. I'm not looking forward to winter. Teresa, your hats a lovely and the valentines are gorgeous. xox

  15. I like the prurple coloured jars best. I've never seen these before - they look great. I love the wee hats you've made. I started a girl's hat and then (before finishing the girl's) I started a boy's hat. The boy's one is working out very big - I think I will have to start again.

Did organize my letters going out this week - which ones need more postage - which ones are going overseas.
It's wonderful of you to crochet all those hats.
