Chinese Lantern and Giveaway WINNER

Kristi brought home a new centerpiece for the table the other day.  Chinese Lantern plant.  I've always thought they were the coolest thing and now we have one!  It looks perfect with my pumpkins on the table and the fall leaf wreath on the door.  Have you ever grown them?

There is a cute little stake in the pot of a crow dressed like a scarecrow... very adorable.

Caleb said.. do those light up?  LOL!  No.. they're kind of like flowers on a plant.  But so cute.

We have a winner on the earring giveaway!  I wrote out all the names with my fountain pen using magenta ink from Japan.. :-)  I cut them all out and Kristi folded them for me and then she shook the basket a LOT and stirred them up a LOT and picked one out of the vintage oak splint basket I got in the Ozarks....

And look who won!  Michelle from the blog It's a Small Town Life!  Michelle, can you email me your address at Teresa @ ByTeresa dot com?  I hope you like them and will wear them often! :-)

I just love gazing into the dining room and seeing these pretty things.

I am off to swim with Gracie in a bit.  We're having sunshine and some clouds.. wonder which way things will go today?  How are things going in your part of the world?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. Beautiful Chinese Lantern plant. It seems to light up with the sun coming through each flower.
Hope your swim was a good one.
The weather forecasters all say we're do for warmer weather today through Friday - yuck.
I'm holding out that they're wrong and we'll have a nice rain again. Don't you think the gardens have perked up with our last rain. Just think what would happen if more rain were to fall.

  4. Congrats to Michelle! I love Chinese lanterns. We have some trees like them here, with green buds that turn brown in the fall. We're supposed to cool down a lot after tomorrow, with numerous storms in the forecast for next week. We'll see! :)

  9. Congratulations Michelle. I hope you enjoy the earrings. Teresa makes beautiful things. :-). That plant is something else. I don't think I've ever seen one "in person", just pictures. They do look like they could light up. I hear rain down that way on Saturday. We have bright blue skies and warmth today.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. Never seen a Chinese Lantern plant -its beautiful. Wouldn't you have thought Mother Nature would have put little light bulbs in there just for Caleb? Nothing much going on in my part of the world - just have to take my filthy car to the carwash and hope they can make it all nice and shiny for me. Three meetings tomorrow so its probably just as well today is quiet. xox

  11. Keep your chinese lantern plant in the pot. A bird dropped one by my garden and it was so cute, I let it grow. Every piece of root you leave in the ground will sprout with roots to china.
After picking blueberries as a youngster, we would segue into chinese lantern season. I recalled this with fondness until I tried to get rid of the darn thing.
They are so cute....and you have acreage....

  14. Chinese Lantern looks great. We have a similar plant growing wild here (southeastern Europe), has the same pretty orange lanterns, just it's more a vine than a shrub.

  20. Hello Theresa, I found your blog through Meredith's. I have never seen a Chinese lantern plant, it's beautiful! I read through your last post and have to say, the rolls your daughter-in-law made look so delicious. And I've seen "A Good Year" and loved it. :) So glad to have found your blog!

  21. Hi Teresa, first of all congratulations to Michelle, I'm sure that she will love the earrings.
That Chinese Lantern plant is beautiful. I have always wanted one, too. I wonder if they would grow in our desert climate. I am planing on asking my neighbor to help me put in a drip system around the house, so that my plants will have a better chance of growing well. I spent so much time watering last summer (everyday or everything drooped) it took too much time away from enjoying summer activities, like sitting on the porch sipping tea, LOL.
Have a fun swim and a happy weekend.
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

  22. I don't know if I've ever told you how much I enjoy seeing your dining table arrangement change with the seasons. It's just like the Interest Tables we used to have at primary school, with natural items, made and bought objects which reflect the festival, or season of the time, lovely!
