New Book, New Project and the Falls

One of my blog friends, Helen Philipps, is an amazing crafter and an author.  She's published several books and so when her new one came out I knew I'd order it from Amazon.  The book arrived yesterday and I look forward to looking at each photo and pattern and hope to make some new things to give as gifts.  An example of her work is the heart ornament next to the book which was made by Helen herself and sent to me as a gift!  It hangs in honor on the knob of my grandfather clock where I can enjoy seeing it every day.

I also wanted to show you that I figured out the pattern I wanted to use for the interesting yarn I got off of Etsy - it's the Hitchhiker pattern.  I bought it off of Ravelry.  I ordered the circular needles off of Amazon to make the scarf and they just arrived.  They are Addi Turbo.. apparently I will knit really fast with these.  LOL!  I gave my sister Denise a skein of this and the pattern so we'll be working on this at the same time.  She has started hers so I got to see it yesterday when we volunteered at the falls and I'm so excited how it looks!

The volunteers get to park in a special nook at the falls next to where the USFS truck parks - and it's next to a cliff where mosses and fern grow.  I love how the moss and ferns also grow up the maple tree there!

Also from where I park there you can see the waterfall through the trees.. what a neat place where I live!

It's getting dark so early now!  When we locked the doors to the Visitors Center it was dark!  Eek!  They've begun to string some lights on the lodge.. I sure hope they put up more!

I am going to start my shawl today.. it has some fancy footwork in it so it will take some figuring out.  My sister showed me some of the interesting stitches on her beginning shawl.  I also have to finish my wedding blanket.. but it's close.  In other words.. today I'm staying by the fire and doing handwork.  Sounds good to me!  I hope you have a cozy thing to do today!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Aah, blissful, a day by the fire creating things. I have Hitchhiker in my Ravelry list, it's lovely. I shall look forward to seeing you make it. Hope you enjoyed your day. It's deliciously cosy once the nights really draw in isn't it. Wishing you and yours a good weekend. CJ xx

  3. Lovely photos around the Falls! I was out shopping yesterday afternoon and was shocked while driving home in the rain that it was already twilight at 5:00PM! This morning I had a meeting with some ladies and we wrapped gifts we purchased yesterday for a family. I am not a good package wrapper so I had fun trying to learn some of the skills that other ladies had. :) I'm glad you got your copy of Helen's book. I am still mulling over what I want to try to make first. Your yarn and shawl pattern are pretty and ambitious! I hope to get some more rows done on my autumn shawl this afternoon. We were given a clamp for the water pipe that is stopping the leak while we arrange for a plumber to lay new pipe and are grateful for the progress! Are you all feeling better? Happy Weekend! xx

  4. What treasures you have just gotten. A good day by the fire can't be beat. And, yes, it is getting dark so early. I just trotted around and turned some lights on and also had to open a few windows as the wood stove has gotten a bit over enthusiastic on me. Have a great weekend.

  5. Don't you just love gradient yarns. They knit up in the prettiest ways. Can't wait to see your finished shawl.
I so love this time of year here in Oregon. It shows its beauty the most with moss, leaves & rapid falls.
Do they light your parking area? It can be so daunting in the dark.
Hope everyone's back to being healthy in your house.
    Take care

  6. Hi There Teresa, Can't wait to see the shawl in the works, the pattern looks fun and the yarn is beautiful! Love the moss photos and the Visitors Center is looking festive, love that! Hope you have a cosy weekend. As I'm typing this, I'm listening to the news and the Paris terrorist attack is horrible.
What is wrong with this world???

  8. Hi Teresa! It's so surprising to me to look outside and it's dark already. It's 4 o'clock here right now and it's already completely dark. Of course it's cloudy today and that could be contributing to it. I've made the hitchhiker shawl in the past and it is a fun pattern to do. I think you'll enjoy it and the yarn is lovely that you've chosen. That is a beautiful place to get to park at and peek at the falls every time you arrive. It's like a sneak peek preview and then when you walk to the lodge you get the full effect! Ha ha! I hope you had a fun afternoon relaxing by the fire. Have a lovely weekend my sweet friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. Nice new book and enjoy looking at all the patterns. Love your falls photo and the moss. I was out this afternoon and wore my fleece coat and a hat. Windy but it was warmer than I expected. Did find a different location for a Kohls store in Sherwood. I drove home the back way. Love the drive thru the country and much less traffic that time of day than going back to I-5. Would have taken me even longer to come home. Check out my veterans day story on my blog I posted on Tuesday. Have a good weekend!! xxx. Happy stitching!!

  12. You always have such lovely pictures Teresa - where you live certainly is beautiful. I'll be looking forward to seeing your Hitch Hiker scarf - I've had the pattern for awhile now and even think I started one and abandoned it for some reason - probably too many WIPs on the go at the time and so it was forgotten. I'm almost tempted to ask if I can join you and Denise for a knit-a-long !! Or, on the other hand perhaps I should finish my current WIPs. The lodge looks so pretty with all those lights. Enjoy your crafty weekend. xox

  16. Oooh, sitting by the fire and crocheting/knitting sounds good. And moss, I love moss. (Well, except the moss I just had to clean out of a gutter by the handful!) When I was a kid, I brought several different kinds of moss up from the woods and tried to grow it near the edge of the woods as a little moss garden.

I have just started a shawl too, with some yummy new yarn but so far have only shown it on my Facebook page...will blog about it soon. Happy cosy, crafty days to you!
