Gingerbread Decorating, Ice Storm and Gifts from Brazil

Season's Greetings, my friends!  Yesterday the boys opened an advent gift from their other grandma and it was a kit with 4 BIG gingerbread men and all the things to decorate them with.  So, in the afternoon Kristi set us all up with our cookies so Dayle and I could decorate with the boys.  We had so much fun!  This is mine.. the only girl cookie in the bunch.  LOL!

Caleb really did well placing all those candy beads on his.

Hayden and grandpa were hard at work.

Mmmm.. Hayden thinks the frosting is pretty tasty!

Grandpa did a pretty good job, too.. don't you think?

An ice storm began at around 8 pm last night.  There was raging winds all the while and we heard huge ice cubes hitting the roof all night.  My thoughtful husband Dayle grabbed my camera and trudged around the farm snapping some shots for me.

Ice encases the branches of our old apple tree up behind the farmhouse.

That's quite some ice, eh?

Looking across our pasture to the neighbors trees all covered with ice.

Little icicles hanging from our garage.  We have 2 skylights over our bed and our master bedroom is on the end of the house next to our little forest so we heard big ice cubes hitting right over our heads all night with a BANG!

When my blog friend Taci went to visit her family in Brazil, she brought Gracie and I some souvenirs!  Her mother actually painted the flowers on this cotton weaving!  How nice of her to send these to us.  She wanted to give us something in return for the hats we crocheted for her project of helping poor young mothers in the mountains in Brazil.

Taci also gave me a clay hen and chick made in Brazil.. I just adore them!  They are now living in my dining room window sill.

Taci also brought me a tiny sand painting in a tiny glass jar.. it's not much over 1 inch in length.. about the size of your index finger from the knuckle joint to the tip.  The design is made in sand.. can you imagine?  Thanks, Taci!

I forgot to show you the cookies Kristi made for us for after we decorated the tree.  They are oatmeal, raisin, chocolate chip and are YUMMY!

I'm not sure whether I will be able to drive on our roads to get to swimming.  We aren't hearing many vehicles go by and they canceled school in Corbett for the last two days due to the ice storm.  But so far we're staying warm and have not lost electricity, although it's blinked off several times.  I hope you're staying warm and dry.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. What fun decorating the gingerbread together, I have got some ready for the weekend when my 2 Grandaughter's visit. That certainly was some ice storm I don't think I have ever seen ice so thick. Beautiful gifts. Stay safe.

  2. YOu have cookies and gingerbread so you can weather an ice storm. I baked today during our snow. I added coconut to everything so it wouldnt tempt me in the least. :) My own little trick.
    LOVE your gingerbread lady

  3. Wow, that ice storm looks very beautiful but I can imagine how disruptive it must be. We never have them here, too calm and mild I guess. It looks like you are all staying cosy and snug though. What lovely gifts from Taci, she sounds like such a sweet person. I like the look of those cookies. Perfect for keeping your strength up in an ice storm. Stay warm Teresa. CJ xx

  4. The boys did very well with their gingerbread men - yours is excellent (sshhh) but you are very artistic anyway. I can't imagine how cold it must be at your place with all that ice around. I thought it was cold here in winter but we don't get anything like that. Brrrrrr !! Your gifts from Brazil are lovely - how about that little sand painting? Some people are so clever. Stay warm. xox

  7. Your gingerbread men are so cute! The boys are looking much older to me in these photos. That ice is really pretty but watch out, I hope you stay safe. Swimming can wait. Take care and enjoy your stormy shut-in time, it can be really fun (at least at first. :))

  9. Love those giant gingerbread men, what a good job the boys did. (big and little boys) Quite the ice storm, we normally lose power when that happens here in the boonies! Lovely gifts from Taci and Brazil. She seems so kind.
All the cookies are making me hungry : ) xoxoRobin

  12. I'm sipping on a cup of hot coffee while looking at the photos of your ice! You are just over a few hills from me and we got no ice, just steady rain. I'm glad you did not lose power. Your gingerbread folk are very cute :) Taci and her mom are so kind and generous. I had the pool practically all by myself today...very strange! It looks like we are going to have some rain everyday for awhile and I hope you don't get more ice. xx

Wow, can't believe how much ice you got last night...we just had a lot of rain over here...and cold! Hope you're staying safe...looks like it would be treacherous on the roads.

  14. I can handle cold and snow but not ice - especially like that!! Your photos are gorgeous but I know that ice like that can cause a lot of damage. Here's hoping you don't have any.

Am trying to figure out what to do now with a day of and nowhere to go but here. Your gingerbread men are nice! How fun and thanks to Dale for taking all the photos in the ice. Yes, be,very.careful.if.you.go.out. hugs!

  19. Wow! That is some ice. I'm not sure I would like hearing it hitting the skylight all night. The gingerbread people are great! I remember such fun times when the kids were little and we would get together with friends for gingerbread house making parties at Christmas time. I think it is definitely better to stay home, safe and warm and dry.

  21. Ice storms are scary but they sure make everything look spectacular the next day, especially if you get a little sunshine to light it all up. Wonderful gingerbread men and lovely gifts from Brazil! The sand painting is amazing. How do they do that??? :)

  22. Sounds like you need hot chocolate and marshmallows (my favourite) to help you through the cold weather. Brrrr!

  23. You all did a great job with decorating the cookies! Did your electric stay on during the ice storm? The ice is so pretty on the trees, but I find it to be not as pretty if the electricity is off. ;) Lovely presents your friend, Taci, gave you. :)
