Iced In

Hello!  How is your week going?  We've been homebound due to the ice storm here - the boys have gotten 3 more days of vacation, their mother is less than thrilled.  :-)  I have enjoyed more of the "homey" time.  I started a pair of cotton booties in blue for my son's friend at work whose wife gave birth to their first child, a boy.  Then I will be closing the "bootie factory" for a while  :-)

My DIL Kristi asked if I had any yarn that I wanted to part with - her best friend crochets and knits and she was hoping to give her some of my un-used yarn.  So, we went through some of the bins in my organized office and I selected a bag of yarn to give her, and in doing so found 2 skeins of the red yarn I used on my red shawl.  I had made my red hat in haste and it's so simple that it really doesn't "go" with my lacy red shawl.  While it was lost I had the notion to make one that is a bit more "fancy".  Hooray in finding the yarn for this idea.. in my own yarn shop! :-)

Here is the pattern I found, free, on the internet.  I think this is a wonderfully pretty crocheted beret.  I wish they'd made it in red! :-)  So, this is a future project for me.  I am getting a bit too many WIPS.  (works in process)

When I arose this morning and went into the kitchen to make my coffee and toast my bagel.. this is what I found.  Kristi decided our spice and food cabinet needed organizing.  :-)  Can you believe all that stuff came out of that one open cabinet behind her?  She tossed all out of date items and put things back in a neater fashion.  And no, you may not have her.  :-)

Well.. the roads are clear enough today for me to go swimming with Gracie so I will be packing up the old swim bag and heading out soon.  I hope you're having a wonderful week.  And thanks for all the nice comments you left on my last post.  I really do appreciate your support.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. Pretty little bootie Teresa. Goodness you've been making a lot of those. I like the new hat pattern and think it will be very pretty in red. How wonderful to a found the matching yarn in your own stash! OK, I won't even ask if Kristi can come live with me! How sweet of her to organize your cabinet though . I took everything off of the top of our kitchen cabinets today and washed it and washed all of the glass fixtures on the dining room chandelier. It's amazing how dusty that stuff gets. We have lots of ice here today so I have no car. Dennis took mine with the better tires to work. I'm enjoying being "stuck" at home. :-). Have fun with Gracie.
    Blessings, Betsy

  6. I bet you all have a bit of cabin fever! I would!
Kristi is quite the organizer! Some people don't want others organizing their stuff! I am one of those! I guess I am a control freak! But it always feels nice to get it done! Don't you have a regular pantry? That's a lot of stuff for one cupboard!
    Happy day Teresa!

  7. I'll trade Kristi sewing lessons for yardwork (weeding/pruning). Ask her?
We had some ice but the banana belt warms up fast. Almost 45' at 3pm.
So nice to weed out older spices and make space for newer combos.
I'm glad you found your skein that matches, It will look awesome together with your shawl.

  9. Stay safe and warm there. I think Kristi is a miracle worker! What a gal. She should start a business as a personal assistant around people's houses, I'm serious.

  10. That is a sweet blue bootie you have started in your "bootie factory" :) The beret pattern is very pretty, and it is great you found the yarn from which you made the shawl so that you can make a matching beret. Cheers for all the organizing that is going on at your house...I need to do more of that around here. I'm glad you could make it out from icy Corbett for our swimming visit and I hope you and yours will be safe and well and have happy days. xx

  11. The Alpaca Silk will be beautiful for your beret and the pattern you've chosen looks lovely. Wow, housebound because of ice !! Does this happen often? It must be very cold - I don't think I'd be able to cope in weather like that. Oh dear, Kristi is at it again - making everyone envious. She must be an absolute gem to have around the house. What a brave woman you are Teresa - going swimming in such cold weather. I realise the pool must be heated but you do have to get out :) Have fun. xox

  12. I hope you had a nice swim with Gracie. Kristi is a marvel! But though your kitchen cupboard may have needed some help, remember the two words that came earlier in your post: "Organized office". Those are good words. :D

P.S. That red yarn looks perfectly luscious.

  15. Being homebound is a good thing when you have many projects to keep yourself busy with. I've yet to make baby booties but should give it a go. Trying to work on some charity hats and blankets for the pediatric ward where I volunteer but it is slow going especially when there are so many other things I want to do. And need to do ... like cleaning and organizing. I wish Kristi could bottle some of her organizational ability and send it my way.
