Sun and Good Books

Hello there!  Did you have a good weekend?  We had a fairly relaxing two days.  We've had the most unusual weather, a sunny day, then rain, then more sun.  Which is what we're having now.  I so enjoy seeing the dining room flooded with bright light so I snapped a few photos.

When my milk glass hobnail vases are in the sunshine they have a neat warm glow.

Soon enough when Spring arrives I will fill these vases with Lilacs and Lilies-of-the-Valley.  I can't wait!

See the way the hobnails glow with a bit of orange light?

I had to move around to the sunny side to get a shot of the orchids.. they are still perfectly in bloom.. they are lasting such a long time.  See how they look a bit pink?  I realized that my pink mock turtleneck shirt was reflecting on them!

Now.. I meant to crochet 3 booties this weekend.. but to be honest.. I'm reading a series of books that I cannot put down!  I can hardly stop reading at night to go to bed!  I have finished the first two and will begin the third today.  I bought all six in the series so I will be good for a few more weeks before I have to find a new book.  An interesting anecdote is the author, whose real name is Rosina Lippi, is a quilter and lives in Oregon near the ocean.

I'm off to swim in a bit.. it's SO much nicer to head off to swim when it's sunny outside.. it's only 51 deg. F so far, at just before noon.  But the best part is when I'm in the pool and the sun is flooding in through the wall of windows and the water is sparkling and lit up.  Do you have any good book recommendations to share?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. If you haven't read them yet you should try the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. They are hugely popular right now due to the TV series on Starz. I have heard that the Sara Donati series is similar to Outlander but haven't read them yet. Another fun series is by Janet Evanovich...the Stephanie Plum series. They are laugh out loud fun.
It is in the 20s here in Michigan with over a foot of snow...50s sounds wonderful. Enjoy your swim.

  3. Pretty, pretty sunshine on your vases Teresa. It's shining here today too...at least at the moment it is and I'm enjoying it immensely. Your orchids are stunning and lasting so long. Hope swim is fun today before you bury your nose in your books again. :-)
    Blessings my sweet Teresa.

  4. Love your hobnail!!! I just need a justifiable reason to start my own collection😀 wish I had some books to recommend but I'm kind of stuck in a rug with books right now. I just can't seem to find anything that peaks my interest!

  5. The sun does look stunning on those beautiful vases. We have also had a bright day although the storm from your side of the ocean is due to hit tomorrow although it is predicted to be rain and gale force winds not snow. Enjoy your swim.

  7. I've always enjoyed Anne Canadeo's mysteries. They're well written, fun, quick and they always have a recipe plus a knitting pattern at the end.
The Hobnail glass ware has a nice glow.
I'm not one for bright sunny days, but today it's really pretty. It must be because it's cold outside ~ sort of a balance between sun & temperature ~ nice!

  8. What a lovely sunny post. I adore it when the sun shines on the water when I'm swimming as well, it's wonderful. I'm reading "The Collaborator" by Margaret Leroy at the moment, which I think you would enjoy. It's called "The Soldier's Wife" in the US I think. I hope you have a good week Teresa. CJ xx

  12. I absolutely love your dining room. Those windows are wonderful and you always have it looking so warm and welcoming. I can imagine so many family meals filled with the mixture of comfort food and laughter in that room. We had one day last week where the sun was shining and the air felt like spring. I was outside for hours. Now it is grey again, but spring is right around the corner :)
    Enjoy your reading.

  13. Thank you for the book recommendations! I don't know why I don't offer up more on my blog. Goodness knows I am a reader. I read almost seven books in Hawaii.
All of her available titles are in my hold basket at the library. I'll pick them up tomorrow.

  16. Your hobnail vases are beautiful - make my imitation ones look a bit sick !! Nice that you're getting some lovely sunshine. The weather everywhere seems to be a bit crazy at the moment. We're getting terrible storms. I've also been doing a fair bit of reading - trying to keep up with the library. All the books I request seem to arrive together and then I have to do some serious reading to get through them, or else make a note to request them again at a later date. I keep a list of the books I've read at the bottom of my Blog roll on the right hand side. Only just started for 2016 but I think there are two there already. Have a nice week. xox

  18. Sounds like an interesting series of books. I still need to finish the book I started in November. Your dining room looks so lovely. Sunlight is a wonderful thing. Some of the surrounding countries are getting snow so looks like we may have clouds for a couple of days.
