Swimming and Snow

Dayle and I enjoyed a sunny but windy and cold drive to Cascade Locks, over the Bridge of the Gods and to Stevenson, WA for lunch at Big Ts.  He had a BLT and pronounced it good.  I had my usual bacon, avocado cheeseburger.  :-) Then to the pool at the hot springs.  He snapped me lap swimming before he got in.  The pool was nice and warm and lovely.

This is a shot from the car as we passed over the bridge on the way to Washington, the snowy mountains looked beautiful.

After we swam we went to the Brigham Fish Market and bought some smoked salmon, Santa was there and children were visiting with him.  Sweet.  I pulled into my little park to snap the last rays of the sunset over the Columbia River.

I got this photo of the frozen mountain tops from the little park.

Then I turned back to see if I could get a better image of the snowy mountains but instead we snapped the neon sign at the East Wind drive-in.  :-)

This place is an iconic ice cream and burger shop in town and in the summer the lines are legendary.

And then on Thursday we awaited the predicted snowstorm.  It arrived and the boys suited up to play outside while grandpa snapped this photo.

I just took this photo through the kitchen garden window, I'm not daring to go outside to take pictures as when Dayle walked Buddy this morning the dog fell on the ice twice!

This is out the French doors in our master bedroom.. we have a little forest between our property and the farm next door.

My granddaughter Jenna is in the school band playing the flute, they had their first band concert and my daughter Amy said she was very impressed with how good they sounded.  I am VERY proud of Jenna!  I just wished I could hear it in person.  They live in Ohio which is 2,400 miles away.

I got all my Christmas cards done, including a family newsletter.  I'm sending a lot less this year.  I keep a record of who I send to and who sends to us and when I address the cards for the next year I do some adjusting.  :-)  I do send to a sibling and child or two and some aunts who don't send at all.. but I'm nice that way.  LOL!

Do you do that?  Do you do cards at all?  Do you do a family newsletter to include?

((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Such pretty pictures Teresa - love the pool shot and the picture out your bedroom's French doors. I need to get busy and address/write some cards this weekend. I don't do a newsletter, but we receive some pretty humorous ones from family and friends. Hope you have a cozy weekend.

  2. Hi Teresa. The pool looks lovely. For various reasons I've not been swimming for ages, but one of them is the pool!! Beautiful photos of the mountains etc. I do long for some snow but it's unusually warm here :-( Your granddaughter is certainly growing up!! As are all our grandchildren.
I do send cards but a lot less than I used to. I did decide not to send some to some people - I ignored the fact that for years they didn't bother but in the end I decided that if they were grown up and working they could send DH and me a card and if they can't be bothered then neither could I. I guess some wouldn't agree with me but hey ho. I don't send a news letter as such but do include a bit of news with one / two of the cards. Hugs Anne x

  3. Your photos are wonderful, Teresa [and Dayle's too :)] It is exciting that Jenna played in a concert and I am imagining the lovely music! My Christmas cards are on my round dining table...hope to get them addressed today. I usually send a newsletter, but have not composed one yet this year. I better get busy! I wonder if Buddy would wear boots with treads... xxxxxx

  4. Love the photos of the mountain and the snow. I do write a note to include with my cards to people who I do not see very often. You are blessed with beautiful Grandchildren. Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. Great photos! Teresa, I am so impressed with your dedication to your swimming. It's not easy going out in the winter weather when you don't have to, but it doesn't seem to stop you from your exercise. Bravo!!! Be careful, if the dog slips on the ice, you know it's slippery :)
    Stay warm,
    Connie :)

  6. You are so proud of that pretty young musician and rightly so! We are expecting a winter wonderland and Im so thrilled to be in the woods and out of the suburbs now. I send cards every other year or so. FIreman loves to send them. I do a photo card and I get very picky about it all. This year I just let him choose the photos and he did fine. It was fun to tell friends we had moved.

  7. I do the same thing with cards Teresa. I have a list that I keep of who I sent to and who I received cards from. Although my siblings never send cards, they still get one every year along with some other people who don't send them out. We're getting a snowstorm today. It's been snowing since about 4 o'clock this morning and predicted to go on through the weekend. It's not heavy at all, but I don't like it anyway. :-) I've been out doing some shopping this afternoon with my best friend, and it always amazes me how people seem to have to relearn every year during the first major snowfall how to drive. I know how proud you are of your wonderful granddaughter. It's so hard having them far away, I well now. Stay safe and warm in the house. There's nothing that can't wait until next week when maybe it will warm up a bit.
    Blessings, Betsy

  8. I love seeing the snow photo you shared with your adorable grandsons. And, you must be so proud of your beautiful, talented granddaughter. We have cooler temps than normal here in southern California this week. I miss the snow :). Pat xx

  9. your photos are lovely and so cold! Glad Buddy is ok and Dayle not falling is good! I send out cards for people I receive cards from in years past. After sending cards 2 yrs to people and I don't get any, off the list. I send to older people I've known for years and relatives. I wanted to do a newsletter but not sure if my printer will accept the paper to do it now. Something broke and Phil taped it but not sure how good it will be. Sigh! Stay warm and glad you got a photo of your granddaughter at her concert from your daughter. I'm working on my cards and calendars this weekend to send out next week. For some reason I'm behind! Arg! Go away, grinch!!! teeeheeehe! Take care and have a good weekend!

  10. Sure is a beautiful place to swim. And some lovely scenery outside, too. BRRRR! I'm not a cold weather person. Looks pretty. But I don't want to live in it. Good thing it was Buddy slipping around and not Dayle. Y'all be careful out there. Friends here are posting about their kids having band concerts. Must be the season. Both my boys played in band. It was amazing to see their progress, especially from middle school to high school. Yusef's final concert was a surprise drum performance with some of his peers ... what an amazing moment that was. Everyone in the audience was on their feet applauding when it was over. Have a great weekend.

  11. What a great newsy blog post Teresa. The pool looks amazing - wish there was something like that here. With our weather getting hottter and school holidays starting next Friday, I think all the pools will be well and truly crowded. The snow looks so pretty - had to laugh about poor Buddy falling over twice !! That's a lovely photo of Jenna and I can understand how proud you are of her. Shame they're such a long way away. I gave up sending Christmas cards a couple of years ago. Of course I feel bad when I receive one but I think technology is taking over in this area too. I have a subscription to an online greeting card service and I send those where possible. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Sunday night here now - nearly dinner time. Xox

  12. THe snow is beautiful as are the frosty views. I send a million cards each year, and each year I say I am not going to send as many. I don't write much anymore which helps.
    HUgs to you,

  13. Nice photos! You got more snow than we did. I hope that pool was warm; I got cold just looking at you in the water. Stay warm. I wonder whether your daughter could have recorded a movie of the concert?

  15. What a beautiful winter wonderland! Although, certainly not without it's problems! So pretty though!
    The crochet lights are adorable!
I used to send so many cards. Always a photo. But haven't sent them in three years. I keep saying next year, but I don't know. It is an expense, and also a lot of time.
I have completely lost my blogging mojo. I fear it won't be returning.
I wish you and yours a lovely Christmas. Stay in and stay safe, during the next storm!
    xo Kris
