Flowers, Frozen & Frightfulness

We are in another "weather event".  It's cold.. 28 deg. F right now.. but when we ran some errands on Tuesday I picked up 3 little pots of spring flowers.. they are bringing me hope for Spring.  These are little Narcissus Tete-a-Tete  and are tiny, about the size of the end of your thumb from the knuckle.  HAHA.. made ya look!

I got a glass bowl out and nestled the 3 pots in it.  I got a Cyclamen in pink and a Hyacinth which I am not sure what color it will be.. pink I hope.

But guess what is going on outside?  SLEET.. frozen rain.. chunky rain.. and as the weather woman just said on TV.. the weather is... JUICY.  What???  That's a new one for me.

Cyclamen remind me of butterflies.

Our power went out last night at 10:35 and stayed out for 17 hours.  Dayle started the generator so the pellet stove still ran but it got really cold in the house.. it was 57 deg. F and we are usually at 72 deg. F.  We have a sheet of ice outside.  So, this is me with my hat and scarf on and covered with a wool Pendleton blanket.  Brrrrr.  The reason this blog post is late is due to lack of electricity.  :-)

Now for the frightfulness.  Every day our new POTUS (President of the US) does something that concerns me.

DT's chief advisor, Steve Bannon, was given a security role usually held for generals on the National Security Council.

DT put in place a travel ban on Muslims entering the USA from 7 predominantly Muslum countries.

DT fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates when she refused to enforce his executive order as she didn't think it was constitutional.

His Supreme Court nominee is Judge Gorsuch - those who voted for Trump expect that he will endeavor to overturn Roe vs. Wade so that pregnancy terminations will be illegal once more.

DT authorized a raid in Yemen which killed 28 people, women and children, and cost the life of one of our military commandos.  Read more HERE.

Melania Trump is refusing to move to the White House so taxpayers are having to pay a million dollars a day for security for them in Trump Tower.

Trump tells his female staff he expects them to "dress like a women".

There is a LOT more, my friends.  For more info about his 2nd week in office, click HERE.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. You're beautiful flowers remind me of spring. And oh, I so need spring here. They just upgraded our winter storm watch to a winter storm warning about 10 minutes ago. I really am tired of snow. Glad your electricity is back on and you're snug and cozy in your farm house once again.
    Blessings, Betsy

  2. Goodness, I don't think I'd be able to cope with that cold, wet weather. You do look nice and cosy rugged up in your hat, scarf and blanket though. Those flowers look lovely. Hyacinths are my favourite and I love their fragrance. Haven't seen any here for a couple of years now. Hope I can find one this year. Stay warm. xox

  4. Lovely spring flowers, despite the freezing weather. The horror continues apace doesn't it. Worst fears realised I think. It's frightening to see people still supporting him despite it all. He is legitimising racism, sexism, bullying, selfishness. A small minority of people are looking at his behaviour and thinking that it's okay. Disheartening to say the least. But I am holding on to the fact that there are so many good people who don't believe that this is the way. Stay strong my friend. CJ xx

  5. Well I did not know about the, "dress like a woman" comment/ HE is disgusting. And the news just keeps getting worse everyday. I am glad your electricity is on again, although you did look very cozy. It is warm here but was chilly last weekend. We are off to a wedding today so I am glad it is nice weather for the bride and groom.

  7. The list keeps on growing, doesn't it? He's named two MEN to his task force on women in the workplace. No women, of course. And it goes on and on.

Mere made pink hats for Don and me. I'm wearing mine right now because it's VERY cold here, as well!

  8. Teresa, You look so bundled. Im so sorry you lost power. Nancy had that happen this winter too in Wyoming. Brrrr. We have not had that happen here ...yet. You asked if my new knit group welcomed crochet and they sure do! I am so upset about our leadership right now. I try not to be afraid.

  9. Glad to hear that your power has been restored and that you are all now warm and safe. Those beautiful spring plants make me hope for what is just around the corner, the wonders of Spring.

  10. Thank you Teresa for speaking out here on the mess this administration is making of our country. It's so important that everyone sees just what he's doing. So many of his followers just don't understand what he is actually doing. He is taking away all of their rights. God bless the Attorney General of Washington Bob Ferguson for obtaining a court order halting his unconstitutional travel ban. It's compforting to know that good people are stepping up against him. I pray for their success and I'm so encouraged by all the support from everyone around the world. Perhaps this can help to keep you warm until your power is back on. ;-)

  11. I'm glad your power is back. We had an overnight outage this past week and it was really weird to realize it when it woke up and all the clocks were out! We slept through whatever did it, fortunately. I hope the weather isn't too terrible for you. Take care and have a good weekend.

  12. We haven't lost power too much this winter other than a blip, here and there. Thankfully. I can recall five days without power on one of our epic ice storms. Our decorative fireplace has served us faithfully during those times. I sewed something today - hoping to blog about it tomorrow. I've been stuck between things I can't talk about, i.e. family issues and work issues. I'm happy to get my creative balance back. Keep the faith, friend.

  13. Oh my gosh, what turmoil in your country! I know how you feel, I am in a constant state of panic Teresa .. We have a weak ineffective and absolute failure for a President, still has two more years in his term, he has taken our beautiful country back at least five years, so we fear what more damage he will do before he leaves office. Hard to be positive. ... But at least we have our gorgeous weather everyday to enjoy!!!!

  14. Oh my gosh, such turmoil in your country! I know how you feel Teresa .. I live in a sort of panic state, we have a weak ineffectual and total failure as a President .. He has taken our beautiful country back at least five years, still has two more years in his term, we fear what more damage he will do before he leaves office. Hard to be positive about our future here in South Africa especially as one of his ex wives who supports his leadership is a leading candidate to replace him (BTW he has several wives and many children) But at least we do have glorious weather most of the year!!! Very thankful for today, it is sunny and warm!

  16. Your flowers look so lovely and colorful on this drab day in Feb. It's been raining here lately, Had some wintery mix on Fri that made it chilly half an hour then went away. Glad you stayed warm as you could in your outage. Blankets are the necessity of life in an Oregon winter! Take care!

  18. Ice it trouble! A few years ago we went without electric for a week, due to a terrible ice storm. Thank goodness for wood stoves! Glad you all are staying at least a bit warm. Each morning I check the news to see what else has happened. I have never felt that way before about our president/government. Sad times, indeed.
