1 Waterfall, 2 Police Cars and 3 Ambulances

Dayle volunteered with me at Multnomah Falls yesterday as Shirley was under the weather.  It was a chilly damp day but we still had plenty of visitors - even though there was an landslide which closed the road on the Historic Columbia River Highway.  Speaking of which we didn't remember it was there and had to go to the Dodson exit, the long way around, to get to the lodge.  I called from the car and ordered lunch for the two of us as it took so much longer to get there.  That worked well!

We had a nice afternoon helping people from all over the world to make the most of their visit to the gorge.. and then.. the phone rang and it was a hiker telling me that another hiker had fallen off the trail, hit her head on rock, was bleeding and could a USFS Ranger come and help her back down the trail.  We have no USFS staff on site on Wed and Thur.  I asked if they wanted us to call 911 and the lady declined.

Then we found out that Corbett Fire District 14 Rescue was also called to help a person who twisted their ankle on the trail and wanted help.

This ambulance was in front and there were two more out in the freeway parking lot.

And two unmarked police cars were up on the plaza.

The two injured hikers were both brought down and taken to the hospital.  When we headed home we had to go by Horsetail Falls and we saw 3 police cars there and saw on the TV news that a hiker had gotten lost up THERE using faulty GPS directions and was finally found at 3 am, cold and wet but alive.

In the news today --

While the House was working to strip health care from millions of Americans, Senate Republicans voted to let big corporations sell your web browsing history.
Now any person or entity with a big enough wallet can pay to learn wherever you have been on the internet. It's a gross invasion of privacy and that's why the FCC passed a rule to ban this. But Senate Republicans voted to overturn the rule.
By overturning this commonsense rule, the Senate voted to allow internet service providers like Comcast to sell private information including your browser history, what applications you use, even your location. I’m outraged that Republicans voted to make Americans choose between their privacy and internet access. There will be more attacks on consumer privacy and protections to favor big corporations and we must continue to fight them. This is completely unacceptable.

I'm not happy with this... how about you?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. I'd be furious too, that's terrible. Beautiful picture of the falls, plenty of water there at the moment! Hope you and Dayle have a lovely weekend. CJ xx

  2. I hope those visitors recover well. I'm sorry that you are not happy with your changes Teresa..privacy is important. Over here we are mourning the loss of the poor innocent victims in London..such a sad week. Enjoy your weekend xx

  3. I'm hoping the people injured at the falls area are healing well. Nice photos. I'm not liking some of the Capitol Hill votes at all. Privacy is important and we need our protection. Will wait and see how it all turns out. I'm thankful the came after I got home from Salem. Wind has died down finally.
    Have a good weekend.

  4. Which corporations are selling? The post office clerk union won against USPS mgmt allowing minimum wage Staples workers to handle your mail. Tell us which corporations and we can organize a boycott.

I was afraid with your blog title that you or Dayle had a mishap. Glad to hear it was just some hikers who forgot to pack a paper map and that the one who hit her head was taken care of.

  5. Wow! It was sure a busy day at the Falls for you. Horsetail is one of my favorites in the area. I hope it's not always like that!
    Blessings,

  6. Goodness, sounds like a busy day. Hikers need to be a bit more aware and careful when the weather is wet and mucky like that. I'm not happy at all with anything that comes out of the White House. Truly an embarrassment and injustice to all that is sensible and good.

  7. I'd be raging if my internet browsing history would be sold - such a violation of privacy. I just saw the news that Mr Trump was forced to withdraw the health bill, which must be temporary relief at least.
I am glad the ambulances weren't out for you! I hope the hikers are recovering well. I just waved goodbye my daughter, she went on a hike with Scouts, hope all will go well, nature can be temperamental and conditions change quickly here in Scotland. From what I remember, the climate here is similar to yours. Have a lovely weekend. x

  8. Not pleased one bit about this news you have shared. Ugh!

Lovely rescue story! If we were to plan a visit, would it feel like it does in the ROckies? Very high up and crazy roads to drive to get there? Doesn't look intimidating from your posts Teresa....

  9. Just wait..sooner or later, hopefully sooner, the whole lot of them will be in prison. Looks like dangerous hiking to me. Maybe people should be waiting til the weather is a bit tamer!

  11. Once again the Republicans can be so devious and disgusting, all for money. At least Trumpcare was not a hit, for that we can be thankful....but you know they will try again.

  12. No, I don't think it right that big corporations will know my internet browsing history!
Also, I think that too many are relying on GPS these days, both on hikes and in their cars.

  13. Indeed, it is a violation of privacy. What a ridiculous notion that my internet browsing history should be shared.

Quite a lot of activity at the falls. Hope it all ended well.
