Lace Edge is Growing

Hello!  Thanks for stopping by.  I've been working on the lacy edging of my summer shawl.. there are 15 rows in the lace and I'm almost done with row 8 of it.  I did a shopping expedition in my craft studio yarn stash and found a few more colors to add.

This shawl will be fun to wear, I think of it as a Boho, hippie look.  Just up my alley.  LOL!  I use shawls in the summer when we go out to dinner or lunch as many restaurants are so cold with their AC blasting.  Also when I go swimming I use it to wear after the swim when I'm chilled.

I've learned at least one new stitch in this pattern, the puff stitch.  I'd never done it before and it was interesting to master it.  I'll be working on this more today - this is one of those wonderful weeks for me with no appointments or meetings.  Summer joy.  I am not swimming now as the pool I use at LA Fitness is being completely remodeled and the whole gym is closed for weeks.

A friend of ours that is going to work on our deck for us stopped by and he brought his new puppy for us to meet.  It's a Yellow Labrador and it's name is Marley.  :-)  Kristi cut the boys hair for them.. Caleb wanted a Mohawk so this is what a curly haired Mohawk looks like.  Cute!

Wiggle wiggle.. cuddle.. wiggle.. lemme down..

This will be a different summer for us.  Dayle has been dealing with bad sciatic nerve pain in his back so he said we won't be able to go to our annual camping trip to Waldo Lake in August.  He's been to the doctor and is going to physical therapy to see if that can help.  So, we've decided to get some needed home maintenance taken care of.  We're going to get the house painted, a new deck and 7 new windows installed in the dining room, living room and den.  There are old wood windows in there now and they don't open, are single pane and leak a lot of frigid air into the house in the winter.

Do you have any home maintenance things that you plan to do this summer?  I hope you're having a good week!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. Your shawl is coming along beautifully Teresa. I love all the colors and it is YOU! The puppy is darling too and the boys look like they are almost as happy as the puppy. :-) I'm so sorry to hear about your camping trip. I know how much you look forward to that every year. But goodness! You'll have a new house when the summer is over. Ha ha! We don't have any home maintenance issues going on, but we are trying to decide where we want to live in retirement. If we decide on Spokane, we're going to start looking for a smaller house. We'll be leaving in an hour or two on our trip. I'm so looking forward to seeing my Piper. Talk to you soon. Blessings, Betsy

  3. Your shawl is very pretty! It is perfect for this time of year. I am sorry Dayle is in pain with sciatica, I hope the physiotherapy helps. No plans for home refurbishments this year, we had a large extension built last winter, that was more than I can handle in a year. x

  4. Your shawl is looking great, it's so colourful. What a shame you won't be going off on your annual lake trip this year, I'm sorry to hear Dayle is suffering with sciatica! It made me miserable when I had it. At least he's going to start the physical therapy which I'm sure will help and the house is going to be spruced up which is exciting! Fiona x

  5. What a beautiful shawl...the colors are so playful! Perfect for summer. Well any season, really.
So sorry to hear about Dayle's back. Ugh, that is no fun. Hope the treatments bring relief. Your spiffy home improvements should make up a little for the disappointment of missing you camping trip. We had a retaining wall installed in our backyard and are waiting for pavers to be put in around that area, which will be a big improvement. Then need to do planting. Big job!
Cute boys with a puppy--what could be better? :-)

  11. Okay the shawl is just lovely Teresa !
The pup is cute, but those boys are cuter with their fun hair cuts ! ! !
We painted the interior of the house over several weeks in January. Fireman and I just painted the deck last week. And we are replacing 3 windows in our family room . What? We are twins right now. Oh and Fireman had bad sciatica before back surgery. The shots he tried for it (steroid injections) did not work. I do know many people who had great success with the injections however. I'll be praying for your GUY! Stay home vacations can be wonderful

  12. Your shawl is so pretty and the grandsons new hair cuts are nice and so is the puppy they cuddled. We'll be getting maintenance on outside of our house a couple places. I am dealing with sciatica in my back and it affects my legs. I did have physical therapy and now keep up with the exercises. I should get a massage soon too, which helps. Have a good weekend!

  13. So sorry that Dayle is having back trouble, and I hope he heals rapidly!!! Your house maintenance projects are ambitious and exciting, but I am disappointed for you not making it to Waldo this year. LIs and Gary spread cedar chips on the berm and around the fruit trees out front and Tim is trying to keep up with weed whacking the grass in the ditches out front. Gary also spread more gravel around the trailer for a little sitting area which looks nice and Mary and Jason dug out a huge portion of the Forsythia bush that was running wild. Your shawl is absolutely gorgeous! I love the photo of the boys and Marley :) I am still working on my shawl. xx

  15. I'll throw my two-cents in concerning Dayle's sciatic pain. Mine turned out to be a tight piriformis muscle. At the beginning of this, one doctor immediately tested me for lupus, and ALS. I was terrified. Nothing. A neurologist tested me for MS. Nothing. A physical therapist finally told me, "We sometimes don't know what causes this." So I just continued my life. Many years later, I went to a massage therapist just for a relaxation massage. She commented, "Wow, you have a tight piriformis." Huh, what's that? She explained what could happen (sciatic pain, numbness, etc., and I almost cried. Her massage techniques were no longer relaxing and peaceful, but she worked my bum and I've been so much better. It comes and goes but I know how to manage it.
I'm definitely not diagnosing, but just saying that the right answer may come in a very unexpected way. Good luck, and I hope he gets relief soon. Also, just saying, I do love and respect my doctors, it's just that nobody has all the answers. :) Happy 4th.
From a neighbor on the other side of the river!
