A New Year

Here's to a New Year for us all!  It was a rough one for me, dealing with the strife in the world, our country and my own personal challenge of how we got to where we are and how to get us all back on an even keel.  I hope that something changes to bring our country and our world back to a better place.  I can only speak for myself, but I will continue to RESIST the unrest and evil I encounter.  I will continue to spread love and positivity if I can.  Will you join me?  :-)

I continue on my low carb regimen.  Below is a sample of a meal that I made for myself.  I must say, it's not "staged" pretty, but it's some chicken tenderloins sauteed in butter with a shake of garlic powder, pepper and NuNus Cajun seasoning, plus a nice perfect ripe avocado with some mayo on it.  NO carbs.  I've lost approx. 10 lbs.  Not much, and I've gotten discouraged but I'm going to stick with it.

I'm going to be doing a new blanket CAL with Lucy at Attic24 blog, I have the bag of yarn and it begins on January 5th.  That should be fun.

Of the things I am thankful for in this past year are that 2/3s of our children are right here living with us and we're enjoying the reconnection with our older son while he gets started creating a new life for himself.  He's working with our younger son at Nabisco so that's a great start for him.  I'm grateful for a great DIL, Kristi, and our two beloved grandsons that live here too.  I'm also thankful that I have a daughter who is a good mother, and my 2 granddaughters - they live in Ohio and I haven't seen them for a year and a half and I miss them but I love them dearly.

My dear husband Dayle has had a rough year too, with back pain and recently a surgery - but he is improving and getting around better and we're hopeful that the pain he lived with will be gone when he recovers.  I'm very thankful for him, we met when I was 14 and he was 16 - so we've been together for a long time!

I'm also thankful for all of you, my dear readers, that keep up our relationship by joining me here in my little online journal as we move along through time.  A special thanks to those who take the time to leave a comment.  I know some cannot comment due to not having a blogger account, but some of you do drop me a line via email and that means a lot to me.

Have a great weekend, and especially have a....

  3. Teresa , you need to be proud of your start with living healthier. Im proud of you! 10 lbs is nothing to discount. Just take it a day at a time. Your family is a joy to follow on your blog. I love your new header photo. Hope Dayle is up and about more each day. Troy did not have afusion, but a microdiscetomy and it took him several weeks to feel better. He had sciatica before and it continued for several weeks after as the inflammation went down. Ihad to keep reminding him that the surgeon said that was normal. He wanted improvement imediately. His back has been very good since.

  4. 10 lbs.! That’s wonderful and that plate of food looks delicious to me. I enjoy reading about your life on the farm with your family. Especially Kristi and all of the things she gets up to. :-) That girl is amazing! We hope to get over there to see you all again soon. If this snow ever stops. We’ve also been keeping Dayle in our prayers and hope for a full recovery with no pain. Happy New Year my friend!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. A lovely post full of thankfulness and positivity. I do hope Dayle recovers soon and that his back pain goes, it really is a horrid thing to live with. Well done on the 10lbs. I gave up sugar and snacks back in March for Lent and have kept going with it until Christmas. I never lost much weight very quickly, but very slowly it added up. I think it's probably best to go slowly. As time goes by it really does make a difference. So don't give up, you're doing brilliantly! It has occurred to me recently that lots of carbs don't really agree with me, so I'm going to cut down on them as well. I hope you and yours have a very Happy New Year Teresa. Well done on staying positive and loving and kind, you are always a shining example. Hugs, CJ xx

  11. To me avocados are delicious as they are so I just sprinkle mine with a little salt and gobble it up. My little neighbors tried it one day and weren't impressed. :) Sending healing light and energy to Dayle. You sure are lucky to have such a wonderful DIL. That Kristi is a wonder! :)

  13. Don't be discouraged at losing 10 pounds, it took me exactly one year to lose 27 pounds and I'm still struggling with both keeping it off and trying to lose more. My doctor says another 27 to go! UGH! The holiday's make it difficult to stay away from carbs and the delicious treats that seem to be everywhere. I enjoy reading your blog posts and learning about the beautiful Oregon areas you visit and also live in. Happy New Year!

  15. Cut out the sugar.I had to when diagnosed with diabetes. That was 18 months ago and I steadily lost 1 and ahalf stone without really trying. Its about lifestyle change. Fad diets may work but not long term. Any loss of weight is good though.Just go at your own pace. Happy New Year. I love the photo's you put on of your lovely home and countryside.

  17. 10 pounds is a lot! Don't be discouraged all you have to do is pick up something that weighs ten pounds and it will make you realize what an accomplishment it is. I am happy to see 2017 go but like you am so discouraged on a daily basis about what our country has become. Every single day it is another horrifying thing, I am not talking about the fires, hurricanes and the horrific shootings, I am talking about what our government is doing to the middle class and poor, the elderly and those with special needs not to mention our national parks, those who moved here with their parents that may be forced to leave, those of different skin color, religious beliefs and of course gay, lesbians and transgender people. Gosh I could write a book here. You know how I feel about it all but I fear 2018 will be even worse, I pray it won't. So saying Happy New Year sounds a bit weird doesn't it?

  18. Keep working on your diet..you"re making good strides. With any luck, the New Year will bring some better changes for our country. All we can do is keep resisting & take care of our families.

  21. 10lbs is good progress, you're doing well. Your chicken and avocado meal looks delicious, who needs bread or potatoes to go with it :).
How lucky are you to have both of your boys back at home with you, for however long it will be, I can imagine it must be challenging not to see your daughter and granddaughters much.
Am glad to hear Dayle is making some progress, won't it be wonderful if he is free from pain and more mobile, that would be a great start to 2018.
Sending best wishes to all of your family for the new year and especially for your son who's life has changed direction. He's fortunate to be part of such a loving family. Happy new year Teresa x
