Sweet Potato Bread, Legos and Winter Garden

Hello there!  The news here is we had an ice storm yesterday but it's up to 36 deg. F now and the thaw is on.  We still have lots of white stuff but it's melting and that is good.  I can't wait to see how the koi did.  It always amazes me how they live through these things.  Kristi found a new recipe and tried it out, it's called Sweet Potato Cinnamon Bread.  Oh my.. it's delicious!  It's perfect with your morning coffee!  Click HERE for the recipe.  The flavor is wonderful plus it's got healthy things in it like the sweet potato, raisins and nuts.

Legos.  The boys just love them and ask for them for all our gift-giving times such as birthdays and Christmas.  Kristi also loves them and got The Grand Emporium a while back and spent yesterday putting it together.  It's really cute!  As you may know I love miniature things.

It's got 3 floors - here is the top floor which is the toy dept.  See the chandelier that lights all 3 floors down the escalator?

The 2nd floor is the housewares dept.

The main floor - with revolving door and sales counter.  Do you do Legos?  :-)

I have a little garden "nursery" in my craft studio.  When you walk out of the door of our master bedroom there is a little hallway into the studio.  There is a set of French doors looking out towards the barn and circular driveway.  Dayle put a table there for me to nurse some of my potted plants through the winter.  Each morning I water one of the pots and rotate through.  Do you winter over any of your outdoor potted plants?

And so it looks like another day of letting the rain wash away the ice before I can go about my regular activities.  I can't say I've not enjoyed my enforced hibernation.  (How's that for a double negative?)  Thank you for visiting and especially for taking the time to leave a comment.. reading those is like having a conversation with you and it makes blogging interactive.  Have a great week and weekend!!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Glad you are beginning to thaw out! The bread recipe looks so yummy. I've printed it and will be making some soon. I was never "into" Legos, though my son enjoyed them for a time when younger. That is some creation...they seem to get more detailed every time I see a Lego item! We have a potted fig tree that we have brought inside for the winter, and that's it. My fresh rosemary is still thriving on our patio. We also put greenhouse-like covers over a couple of our raised bed boxes and yesterday my husband picked arugula and kale for a salad!

  2. Yum! WOW! Lovely! The big thaw is happening here, too. It is 35 degrees with light rain. Orient drive has bare pavement by our house and a county crew was out filling potholes. Yay! Our yard is still white but getting bare patches and the driveway is showing off gravel. I do hope your fish are well, too. It is cheering to have the plants growing inside, isn't it. The Emporium is neat! I will show it to the Lego lovers in our household, and thanks for the recipe link, too. xx :)

  3. That bread looks wonderful! I don't do legos but all of the grandkids and both of our boys do so they are a staple gift around our house. Alex bought Jamie a lego guitar that is only 5 inches long at Tokyo LEGOLAND. The pieces were itty bitty. They are both avid guitar players so it was an appropriate choice. Kristi's emporium is really neat. We're still having intermittent freezing rain/rain. It was supposed to be 44 today and melting but I don't think that's going to happen. Our driveway is once again covered with the 3 inches of snow we got overnight and I'm not going out there to shovel it. My back still has me down. It doesn't look like any of it has melted yet. I didn't overwinter any plants this year even though I had planned to try it with the geraniums. Maybe next year! :-)
    Stay warm!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. Teresa, It looks like you have kept yourself busy during all this "fun snow." I'm totally done with it myself. Your bread looks very good. My boys loved legos when they were growing up, but your DIL has taken them to a whole new level. Stay warm.

  6. What a great Lego set! My kids have basic Legos which they really like, but they'd probably enjoy something fancier eventually. When they're a little older, I'd like to get a Mindstorms set, but they're very expensive so I'm waiting until they can really handle it. :) The bread looks good, thanks for sharing the recipe.

  7. I'm going grocery shopping after volunteering this morning and definitely will be getting some raisins and nuts so I can make a nice healthy coffee cake for breakfast. That is quite the grand Lego set. My oldest boy LOVED them when he was growing up and always got a set for the holidays or his birthday. I almost thought about buying them for old times sake this past Christmas while he was here but never did. Love that little garden nook you have going on there. Plants always bring such joy.

  8. Lego is amazing, who doesn't like it? When I've won the lotto I will have a basement full, just like The Lego Movie. Glad that snow is going. CN xx

  9. The two eldest Grandchildren are just starting with lego, I used to love it when my own girls were small. Love the look of the bread, I will definitely save the recipe. The indoor garden was a joy to see, a lovely nook of beauty to come. Take care.

  10. I'm glad it's beginning to thaw out but it sounds like you made the most of your time inside. I love that Lego set, my children used to spend hours building various models and I kept it all. Now my 8 year old grand daughter is using it. Thank you for the recipe, it looks yummy. Fiona x

  11. I so agree with you Teresa. I do feel we are conversing. Its lovely. I over winter only one plant. I cant keep plants around in the house because the dear cats will eat them. ITs icy and foggy here. Im pretending I dont need the sun, but I do. My sweet mom is weaker and I cried a lot last night. I do better with freezing cold and sunshine than with 40s and rain. Oh well. Cannot control the weather. I want that bread. I think that would help!

  13. Hello dear Teresa. The bread looks so yummy. My youngest son especially loved lego. He built very complicated pieces. we kept it all. All grandchildren have played with it since. Youngest has taken a lot to his home. His girls - our beautiful granddaughters have played with it and have added their own very girly pieces to it pretty pieces which I have loved - especially after having boys :-) Our grandsons have also collected a lot but don't seem to do much with it now. Growing up and I feel sad about it - but I guess it's inevitable.
I love 'chatting ' with you Teresa and hope that one day I might just manage to meet you. I am trying to persuade DH to go on a trip to US - to Oregon and call at the Falls where you volunteer and might see you there. Take care. I will hold you in my thoughts tomorrow ( Friday 20th Jan) Anne x

  14. Glad your hibernation hasn't been too bad! That lego is wonderful, nothing like that in my day, but I can see how it would be a great plaything to make and then to enjoy when it was made. A crafter or dolls house fan could make that into something even more with a few additions!
