Pie Maker

My Mom was a renowned pie maker.  The skill skipped a generation and my daughter is the pie maker in our family.  We're in trouble here in Oregon, as she now lives 2,000 miles away.  I'm trying to talk hubby into collaborating with me on making pies.  At any rate, my daughter spent today making pies for her husband's family Thanksgiving in Ohio.  She was baking while Jenna was in school.  So, Paige began her pie making tutorial today.  She loves cooking!
Rolling out the crust.
Getting a bit of flour on the baker!
Amy turned around and when she looked back, Paige was rolling the flour covered rolling pin over her head!  Silly!
Jenna got home from school to the aroma of 2 pumpkin pies.  :-)  Amy is also making a chocolate pecan pie and a chocolate custard pie.  She called us this evening for a visit on the phone and I gave her my mother's vanilla custard pudding recipe she used for pudding and pies.  The vanilla recipe was used for coconut cream and banana cream.  You add unsweetened cocoa powder and more sugar for the chocolate cream.  Mom used the egg whites to make big fluffy meringue toppings.
Grandma's Pudding & Pie Filling

3 egg yolks, beaten
2 1/2 Cups milk
1 Cup sugar
5 TBS flour
A dash of salt
1 tsp Vanilla
5 TBS unsweetened bakers cocoa

Mix all dry ingredients in a saucepan, whisk milk in and cook over medium heat until thick, stirring the whole time.  For vanilla pudding only use 3/4 cup of sugar and no cocoa powder.  You can use the vanilla pudding for cocoanut cream and banana cream pies.  You cook the pudding a bit longer for pies, less for pudding.

Amy took the girls on an outing to a park a few weeks ago, these are a few of the photos of the girls.  I just love that Paige is wearing a peace sign "hippie" shirt.  She takes after her grandma K.
Jenna is obviously enjoying the wide open spaces.
This is a photo of the cozy farm house as I pulled in home after going swimming today.
Dayle was inside chopping onions, celery and parsley for the stuffing for the turkey in the morning.  I will put the 5 leaves in the table and put on the new tablecloth, crystal candelabra, crystal glasses and my Christmas dishes.  I will peel potatoes, prepare the candied yams and green bean bake and make the gravy when the turkey is done.  Our middle son's wife is bringing a pumpkin and pecan pie for dinner, isn't that sweet?  Our youngest son's wife is bringing a fruit salad.  Photos to follow after dinner tomorrow! :-)
I would like to wish those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving a wonderful day.  For those who don't.. you might want to try our tradition of giving thanks for all the great things you have in your life.  :-)

Sending all my love to you, my dear readers.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
