Readying for the Feast

We have a list made, turkey, bread cubes, veggies, fresh yams, pumpkin, rolls, etc.  I have a new Thanksgiving tablecloth and napkins, and after dreaming of a crystal candelabra for years I got one on Amazon.  It took me quite some time to put on all these crystals this morning after the UPS man brought the box!  I have to admit, I fell in love with a similar candelabra while watching Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightley and some other wonderful historical dramas, such as Young Victoria.
I found a box of Norwegian hand-dipped candles in my "candle storage area" and put them in.  We're ready for a candle-lit dinner next Thursday!!

Our family unit is smaller now, it will just be our 2 sons, 2 daughters-in-law and 4 grandsons for dinner.  Ten people.  No need for an extra table as our old farm table seats 10.  Our daughter and two granddaughters will be having their first Thanksgiving in Ohio, the first year they will not be with us.  :-|
We had a sunny day on Tuesday so I took my Queen Anne's Lace scarf out on the deck for a photo session.  I'm not sure this is the best way to display it, but it's long so it's kind of hard.  I've worn this scarf at the Annual Meeting I presided over on Monday and also out to dinner night before last and I've gotten lots of compliments on it.  It sure brings lots of color to my wardrobe!
I love the jewel tones in this, the drenched color, but it's not eye-killing bright.  I posted the pattern for this scarf a few posts ago.  Scroll down.. :-)
We got a call from our son yesterday - our DIL, Kristi, was at the bedside of her beloved grandmother as she was slipping away and he asked if we could come stay with the boys while he got some sleep (he works nights).  So, we picked up some take-out chicken and headed there.  We all had lunch together and I left grandpa with the boys (one was napping) and headed to the pool for my hour swim.  When I arrived back at our son's home, Kristi was there.. her grandmother had passed away.  She was at her side and thanked us for coming to their aid.  She asked if she could go back and join her family, so we loaded up the boys and brought them home with us.  She is going to miss her grandmother, she admired her a lot and loved her immensely.

Thanks for visiting.. ((hugs)), Teresa

  1. Sorry for Kristi's loss. Her Grandmother will live through her and those boys forever. You are wonderful Grandparents and always being available for all those little ones is so important. I love your scarf, mine is a disaster but I knew it was going to be. I made so many last year that were lovely so one bad one isn't a big issue. Love the candelabra, how gorgeous.
    Hugs to you,

  2. The candelabra looks beautiful!!I can imagine how it will brighten up the room when all the candles are lit up. And the scarf is very pretty!!I love the colour changes in that. Sorry for your DIL's loss.

  3. What a beautiful candelabra! Perfect for a Thanksgiving table. Love your Queen Ann scarf and the great colors.

  4. So sorry to hear about the passing of your DIL's grandmother. That's a lovely picture of your Queen Anne's scarf - I really like the yarn you've used - must go back and see if you said what it was in your previous post. I used Noro Taiyo for the two I made but I think the texture of yours is nicer. Oh my, what a gorgeous candelabra !!

  5. Looking at the photograph of the boys with their Grandpa they are chips off the old block aren't they? Please pass on my sympathy to Kristi. x

  6. First send my sympathies to Kristi.

I've wanted a crystal chandelier since I saw the one on Pollyanna. It will have to wait til I get my own house.

    Your scarf is beautiful.

I know you will be a little sad this year without your daughter and granddaughters.

That picture of your husband with the boys reminds me of when I was young and sat with my Grandpa in his big recliner and watched TV.

  7. Love the candelabra. It's so gorgeous! I'm so sorry for Kristi's loss. Please send her my sympathies. I know Thanksgiving will be a little quieter and not "quite right." I'm sure they will be with you in spirit.

  8. RIP Kristi's Nan but it is special that she was able to be there right until the very end.
Your candelabra is so grand looks great. Enjoy your Thanksgiving next week and have a lovely weekend,
    Jane x

  9. The separations you and yours are are experiencing, remind me of those my family is experiencing. My sons, grandsons and daughter-in-law live on the East Coast, and my daughters, son-in-law, and grandaughters live with me on the West Coast. My husband died two years ago, and while my feelings are less raw, I can imagine Kristi's loss, and I'm so glad you and your family are there to comfort and care for her. And I am glad that you are celebrating and creating beauty around you as you exercise for good health and embrace all for which you are grateful. Happy Thanksgiving, Teresa! <3

  10. Un-frign'-be-le-va-ble... I think it's perfect. I love the sun shining in through all the crystal. It's nice and high too for all the goodies on the table. But, my friend, I've been sweating the "tablescape" thing all week. Back to the search. You are the best to lend a helping hand. Wishes and prayers for Kristi. All your boys to look happy as a clam watching what they are watching.

    Prep On,

  11. I am so sorry for your daughter in law's loss. And how wonderful that you could come to their aid. That is the way we do it here too.
    LOVE that candleabra!!!!

  12. Teresa, I am so sorry for your DIL's loss. My thoughts and prayers are with her and family. I am so envious of your little patch of the earth. Your house is gorgeous and the candleabra is beautiful!

  13. The leaves on your tablecloth very cleverly match the leaves on the ground outside your window! (I think there are more on the tablecloth, however.) I loved that as I was scrolling through your post, I could feel the warmth of the lit candles on your new beautiful piece! Lovely post...I was having fun checking out the details of the things in your windows! What a nosy "Nellie" I am! LOL Hugs, Annette

  14. So Sorry Teresa to hear of your DL's loss thinking of her and her family
    Hugs x

  15. That is a lovely candelabra and will grace your Thanksgiving table beautifully, Teresa. The candles are really special ones too. It sounds like such fun getting ready for your lovely celebration, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful time.
I was very sorry to hear of Kristi's loss...please give her my sympathy.
    Helen x

  16. So sorry to hear about Kristi`s Grandma...the boys are lucky to have you!
Your table will look amazing..what a beautiful piece. Happy week to you.

  17. I love your candelabra, it's perfect, as is your Queen Anne's Lace scarf.
I think you and your family have been having a very emotional time recently and I'm sorry to hear your sad news. I am sure it will be such a comfort to Kristi in years to come that she was with her Grandmother and family and had you to help her.

I absolutely love comments and thank you so much for taking time to leave me a note. :-)
