Dollhouse Lighting Ceremony

A few days before Christmas one year ago, we found a dollhouse on Craigslist and we got it for my present - fulfilling a childhood dream.  I've added little things to it over the year to give it my "stamp".  One thing we needed was to get the lighting hooked up to electricity.  A few months ago I ordered the materials to do so, and today I finally pestered hubby to hook them up - and he did!  We need to buy a few more things to get it working fully and also several tiny lightbulbs, fixtures and shades.  But it works!!  Woohoo!!
I took the Christmas tree down out of it's attic and set it back up in the living-room - and now that there is a light, it looks so bright and homey!!
Here is the nursery, I love the light in here.  Only 1 out of the 3 fixtures are working in here - it's going to be nice and bright when they're all 3 working.
The bath.
My doll has her own dollhouse. :-)
The music room in the front entry.
The master bedroom.
The sideboard has a chocolate cake made by a fellow blogger's daughter, here is her shop on Etsy.  Click HERE
The game table is set up for a lively game of checkers in front of the fire.  The pewter pitcher holds apple cider, the pewter mugs are full... the pewter bowl holds the extra checkers. :-)
The dresser in the bedroom never shows much as it sits sideways, but it's a neat piece of furniture.
The chifferobe has room on the sides for hanging clothing.
I'm so happy to see the lights working!
It's going to be so fun to see it lit up!  I added some wreathes to the windows and some little trees in front of the porch.
My blog friend Meredith (click here - Mereknits) got a gift from her sister Claudia - of a cute little handmade sheep.  I told her of my Angora goat - so I thought I'd take a photo of mine to show Meredith.  :-)
I love his jute horns and the long mohair made of chunky yarn.
Remember the little crocheted wreath that my friend Gracie wore the other day?  Well, this is my rendition of it - it was fun and fast to make.  You just single crochet onto a 1 inch plastic ring - making it nice and tight - then crochet into the back loop and chain 5 all the way around and tie off.  Tie a little red satin ribbon and sew or glue it on.  Sew or glue a pin back on it.  Unfortunately, I can't find my bag of pin backs.  Maybe one day I'll get more organized.. ya think?
Last night we were drinking some eggnog with some bourbon in it, and I grated some fresh nutmeg on top.  I think we're going to have another this evening, it was good.  We watched a holiday movie, a suggestion from my sister.  I glanced in and saw Buddy laying in the living room and snapped this shot.  Cute, huh?
So, are you all set for the big day?  We are!  We have everything under the tree, Christmas dinner will be here with our 2 sons and their families - a smoked turkey is in the fridge.  :-)  Thanks for visiting me and I count your friendship as one of the things I'm thankful for.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. Oh here another year has passed and I still have not done a thing with my dollhouse, and look at you, way to go! The lights make your house look fantastic and I recall you saying you wanted to paint your house another color, but I think the color is perfect for now just the way it is. I knew I would love this post, anything "dollhouse" is a hit with me.

  5. The lights give the house a warm and cozy glow Teresa. [thanks Dayle :)] And the wreaths and bushes really help the house look well settled and festive. I am making my plastic ring wreath a little differently, but am so pleased with the process and outcome...will post about it..... I think your goat and Meredith's sheep should come visit my flock of sheep...they could have a happy frolic while we chatter and stitch away. I just got some Christmas oranges and a quarter for each of our stockings today...an assignment from Santa. I am looking forward to attending a candlelight service at church tomorrow and made sure my iPhone candle app is working. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Teresa. xx from Gracie

  7. Hi Teresa! Your house looks so grand! I am so envious! I miss mine so much. I think I shall begin a Craig's List search of my own!!! The lights make it come to life! And the wreaths on the outside windows, and trees, they are just the perfect touches!!! I used to have tiny Christmas lights on mine. Wreaths too. So fun!!
Love the way the wreath turned out. I may crank one out tonight if I have any of the right green. Wish you were right next door, as I would run over and give you a handful of pin backs. Oh, and I may want to stay for a hot toddy too. My Dad used to greet us at the door on Christmas Eve with those. Freshly grated nutmeg on top....oh my!!!
Merriest of Merry Christmas' to you. You are a treasured friend!

We had a big turkey dinner tonight while we watchd the snow falling outside. (In Portland!!). Then we ran outside to the hot tub and dear daughter and I sat and watched the snow falling all around us while we we in the warm tub. Such fun!

    Merry Christmas Teresa!

  13. Hi Teresa .. It doesn't seem a whole year ago that you got your gorgeous doll house - doesn't time fly? I really love what you've done to it and the lights are like the icing on the cake. The whole thing looks just absolutely gorgeous. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a great 2013. Its only 2 hours before Christmas Day here. I cooked our Turkey today as there won't be room in the oven for all the veggies plus turkey. I plan to warm it up in the turbo oven prior to serving. We had our usual family raclette meal tonight (Christmas Eve) and are now looking forward to the big day tomorrow. xoxox

  21. Oh Teresa, that dollhouse is amazing! I love the lighting; that's something I've always wanted to do with my dollhouses, but never seem to get around to it. It really does add ambiance and realism to the rooms. You've inspired us! Thank you for sharing the little cake Grace made too. She was thrilled to see it amongst the miniature finery. Wishing you all the best and a most wonderful Christmas to you and your family on Kasner Farm!
