Hello my friends! It's noon on New Years Eve as I write to you.. I wish for you a wonderful 2015.. with lots of love, happiness, family and friends -- and hope that you make the most of the coming year. It's up to us to make our lives the most rewarding and interesting as we can. Right? Let's do it!
My Hyacinth is blooming and it's SO pretty! Pink and spring green are a natural color combination, isn't it? I think this is a perfect color of flower to welcome in the new year.
I talked about the loss of fellow blogger and artist Vanessa Cabban in my last post. My wonderful friend Gracie had purchased 2 of the books that she'd illustrated and brought them to me to read them to my grandsons - isn't that SWEET? I so enjoyed reading them both and marveling at Vanessa's amazing paintings.
"Diamonds in the Snow" really spoke to me.. I also marvel at light sparkling through icicles in the winter.
"No Place Like Home" also touched me deeply.. it was very thoughtfully written and illustrated. She was a talented knitter, crocheter, paper mache sculptor, and illustrator. She will be missed in this world.
My "Vanessa" inspired crochet project -- I've decided to make a hot pad out of it as we use them on the table all the time and each time I see it it will remind me of Vanessa and ALL of my fellow bloggers whom I've come to know and love.
I've been doing diagonal crochet for years and I always enjoy how it works out. If you want the pattern you can either google it or leave in your comment that you'd like the pattern emailed to you.. and leave your email in the comment. I'd post it, but it's long as there are lots of photos and text.
I am off to swim today.. with Gracie. Dayle is making us a New Years Eve feast of baked pork chops, fried potatoes and buttered corn. Tomorrow we will clear the decorations and box them up for another 11 months. It's going to look very spare in here! Again.. I wish for you a fabulous new year and am looking forward to sharing it with you. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Such a beautiful flower! My amaryllis is starting to shoot up and will hopefully have a pretty bloom soon. I'm glad you enjoyed Vanessa's illustrations and I would appreciate an email with a link to the pattern you are using for the hot pad. The colors and design you have chosen are so pretty! Off to get ready to swim xx
ReplyDeleteHow lovely of Gracie to share those books.....Vanessa certainly will be missed by all of us....
ReplyDeleteHappy, Happy New Year Teresa. Vanessa was obviously a very well liked blogger and crafter. I've been reading many blogs where people are paying tribute to her. My wish is that we would all let each other know NOW how much we care for and admire our friends. I certainly hope she knew how many people cared about her.
ReplyDeleteWe're staying in tonight too. I've been fighting my back for months. Good days and not so good days. For the last week except for a few hours here and there when I took the tree down and cleaned, I've been in tremendous pain. I wanted to "tough it out" but found myself at the doctor this morning. Two new prescriptions and physical therapy starts Monday morning. All this to say we're canceling our plans for tonight and staying home since I can't sit in a chair or stand without pain at this point. I'll lay on the couch and we'll watch the ball drop at 9:00 along with the East Coasters and then it's bedtime for us! 2015 will dawn pain-free for me. (At least that's my plan and I'm sticking to it.) I did get a lecture from the doctor for putting the visit off for so long.....
Anyway. I have been truly blessed for having you in my life this year. I hope our friendship can continue to flourish in 2015. Take care my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy
Adorable book and the illustrations are so beautiful. Hard to see an artist leave this earth...we have their art with us always to remind us. Sorry for your loss, I did not know Vanessa. Today was my last work day of the year. My daughter started her new job at the library today. She was excited to finally land a job!!! We are figuring out where a movie is that we can go see and use our movie cards and eat out. Yes, tree comes down this weekend. I just put the small tree up so it won't take too long to take it down. Lovely striped hot pad. Hugs and Happy New Year, my friend.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and your family! I so enjoy your blog and look forward to your wonderful posts in 2015!

Such a shame about Vanessa, I am sure her passing will be mourned by many.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sending me a card, that is so sweet of you! It hasn't arrived yet but in the UK over the festive period the post seems to be on a go-slow so I am sure it will arrive soon and I will let you know when it has.
Happy New Year to you and your family - I wish you all good health and peaceful days ahead.

So very sweet of Gracie to bring you those books. I had a few comments back and forth with Vanessa in the past. She truly was very talented. Such a shame her life was ended so suddenly. I've not tried diagonal crochet but have a dishcloth pattern already lined up to try in the future. I don't think it's the type of design you are doing, but diagonal nonetheless. Wishing you and yours all the best for the new year. Hugs and blessings, Tammy
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Teresa. Wishing a blessed 2015 to you and your family. Heather
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Miss Gracie is such a thoughtful friend! The books are beautiful. Now, every time you see them, you will think of both of your sweet friends. What a true love gift from one friend to another. Oh I want the pattern..yes, please...jumping up and down as I have my hand raised..me, me...oh yes, please. :) I so love that you are making something to use every day to remember her by. The light in the world will indeed be less bright. But her talents lives on in all the lovely things she made and left behind for all of us to enjoy. Oh and think of the awesome things she is doing up in Heaven. OMGoodness, the things she must be painting and making! Hugs to you sweet friend, and Happy New Year, too! :)
ReplyDeletelovely blog~!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Teresa. I hope 2015 brings lots of joy and love to your life. The books are beautiful. I didn't follow Vanessa's blog but in my travels through blogland, I have heard her name many times and there are many of my bloggy friends who really enjoyed her. I know when someone that personable and talented passes away, there is a big hole left in the universe. Enjoy those books. I may have to get them for my grandson.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sharon
The hyacinth blooms are lovely--especially this time of year. Your crochet work looks so colorful! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and spring green too! I am so happy to be past the shortest day of the year and knowing that each day will be a little bit longer and bring us closer to spring. Of course, if we get a little snow between now and then that would help make this winter a bit sweeter too:)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your blogger friend. Her books are quite lovely.
Blessings,
Aimee
PS: Wishing you a blessed new year!
Happy new year to you and your family, wishing you everything you wish for yourself for 2015.
