Hello.. thanks for stopping in for a visit. I have been working on a 2nd "Lucy Bag" using the design by Lucy at Attic24 blog. I am using the Premier Home cotton yarn I got a while back. I was wondering how tall I was going to make it and for this photo I put a bag of fiberfil inside it and I realize that this would be a perfect size right now! I will do a shell border and some long handles. I'll show you how it turns out. I think I will take this to New Orleans with me for a shopping bag. :-)
I forgot to show you this photo - both of our grandsons had their birthday last week. Caleb turned 6 and Hayden turned 7 - this was at Hayden's birthday dinner and they sang happy birthday to them both. In my last post about Easter I showed the boys opening gifts and a question was posed - do we give gifts for Easter in the USA? So, I wanted to clarify that we had a combination Easter and Birthday party here. :-)
I found a few more ceramic bunnies on Etsy - :-) Time to put them away until next year but I thought I'd show you the new girls.. one is knitting and one is sweeping. Aren't they cute? I actually keep them in my china cabinet among the dishes, so I get to see them all year.
Now - I want to tell you that when Dayle retired I insisted he get a colonoscopy while we were still on his work insurance - he'd never had one. Long story short, they found cancer, performed surgery a week later to remove it, got it before it spread and it saved his life. He had a follow-up procedure yesterday and they removed 3 polyps (those are the things that can turn to cancer). The reason I am telling you this story is that if you have never had a colonoscopy - please get one, especially if you're over 50 or have a history of any colon cancer in your family. THERE ARE NO SYMPTOMS IN THE EARLY STAGES.
OK, time to pack my swim bag and head out. I hope you have a fabulous weekend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Well done you on looking after Dayle so well. A cautionary tale indeed. I'm glad it all ended well. The bag is brilliant, it looks really sturdy. I shall look forward to seeing a little of New Orleans, I hope you have a lovely time. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteTeresa love the bag so colourful. Very lucky catching the cancer in time.

Oh Teresa, my have your granddaughters gotten big and tall! Lovely dresses, your daughter did a super job! "Pretty in Pink" Great Lucy bag, will be great for your trip, you must be so excited.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding people about colonoscopies, they are so important, and really not that bad. Thank goodness you got on Dayle and all is well.
Enjoy your swim, xoRobin
Teresa, Thank GOD for colonoscopies. Even though I hate the prep,, its worth it!
ReplyDeleteYour grand girls are just darling in their dresses.
Thank you Teresa. My dad was diagnosed with colon/ pancreatic cancer the week of Christmas and died 3 weeks ago. He waited until he had symptoms... Angela
ReplyDeleteSound advice indeed Teresa and I am glad that Dayle is clear. The bag is lovely. Have to admit I've yet to try making a Lucy bag - I really should. Your granddaughters are growing up - just like mine :-) Love their dresses. Hugs Anne x
ReplyDeleteYou do have such beautiful grandchildren! I do like the bag you are crocheting and it looks as if it will hold lots of goodies. I'll bet you are getting quite hyped for your trip. Good for you. Glad to hear all is well with Dayle.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Ellen.
What a gorgeous rainbow bag Teresa. Glad Dayle is well and being monitored x
ReplyDeleteLove the bright happy bag and think it will cheer any trip when you use it. Happy birthday to the wee ones too. Your cautionary tale is spot on and I just wish Scotland did the same. Everyone gets a screening kit at the age of 50, not my first choice of birthday card admittedly, but I often wonder how sharp this is at picking up very early cases where there are no occult blood signs. Delighted Dayle is doing well and also living proof listening to a good woman can be lifesaving!
ReplyDeleteGoodness, your two girls are growing up fast. They look very pretty in their Easter dresses. Your new bunnies are cute - I like the hat on the one with the broom. You certainly know where to find such treasures. Do you line your bags? I've sometimes wondered if crochet bags stretch after a few uses. The colours you've used look very cheery indeed. xox
ReplyDeleteLovely bag Teresa and your bunnies too. Those grandkids have all grown so much and it will be great for you to see those girls!! Yep, all checked up here on the cancer check and well worth it to be sure ☺
ReplyDeleteGood job for you Teresa. Dayle is such a sweetie we want him around for a long, long time. I think your bag is just perfect for your trip. What day do you leave? That knitting bunny is so cute. I want one!!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteGotta run. We have company walking up the driveway.
Blessings,
Betsy
Hi Teresa. I am catching up here with you. Been so darned busy, and not much time for blogging. Love the bag! You will get a lot of use out of that! What fun to see the girls! They are getting so big! And the boys looked like they all had fun on Easter. And such a fun birthday party too. How sweet of Kristi to get you and Dayle a basket too.
ReplyDeleteAbout the colonoscopy.....good for Dayle. I would have never done it, had my Mom not been diagnosed with cancer this past year. I had mine a few weeks ago, and it was a breeze!!
XO Kris
Love your new bag---pretty colors! Cute pictures of your granddaughters! I am SO happy you'll be seeing them in less than 3 months:)
ReplyDeleteI've never had a colonoscopy but know what you say is true. A relative had colon cancer in their 40s. Just wish there was an easier way...
Blessings, Aimee
Now I really want to make a Lucy bag! Maybe I will try that next. Are you going to line it? I knit a little purse out of the first wool I cleaned and spun and my sewing group friends coached me on how to line it...now if I can just remember the coaching :) Your grands look grand, and I'm so glad that your hubby is thriving. I got home from swimming without being rained on and got my homework done for my class on 1&2 Thessalonians tomorrow. Yay! xx
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa, your bag is lovely :) Thank you for the health advice - you are right, I hate hearing when people don't have tests that are available and wait until its too late. Your grandchildren are beautiful. xx
ReplyDeleteWise words about taking care of your health. I know we all dread that procedure, but it is important!
ReplyDeleteGlad it was good news following the colonoscopy. Love the colours of your bag, and what great family photos! xx
ReplyDeleteI am glad that all is well for Dayle! I hope that it continues that way. I love your bag, the colours are fantastic and it looks as though the yarn is nice too!! Hope you enjoy using it on your travels! xx
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to the boys. We always woke up Easter mornings to find baskets at the foot of our bed. I always remember the excitement of getting Reeses peanut butter eggs and, of course, egg hunts in my Mammaw's backyard. My husband has had a couple of colonoscopies and it was determined he has chronic fissures which may require surgery at some point. Glad Dayle listened to your advice and got things taken care of. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bag, you did a lovely job and chose gorgeous colours! Your grand girls are beautiful too, and their new dresses are so pretty. Such good health care advice, and great that you sent Dayle for the test when you did. So glad he is well. Enjoy the weekend, Teresa!

Such lovely happy family photos :) I love little knitting bunny, she is so adorable (off to eBay in a bit for a nosy ....).
ReplyDeleteWell done to you for getting Dayle to have the checkup, and hope he is recovering well from the procedure.
Love the Lucy bag!

The girls look so much older! Cute photos of the boys having birthday fun. Your bag is looking great, I have the yarn to make another one, my first was a flop!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
First of all, Happy Birthday to the boys and the girls are really growing up. I love that bag. I'm working on a Cubs season blanket using Lucy's Granny stitch blanket pattern and loving it. I'll have to do one of those bags also. I'm glad you insisted Dayle get the colonoscopy. I had 4 really bad ulcers in 2001 and have had one every 3 years since. Only once have polyps been found but I swear by them, even if the prep isn't any fun.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sharon
