Season's Greetings, my Friends! We're getting into the holiday mood around here! Dayle and our son Travis got the tree up on Saturday evening and on Sunday afternoon we began decorating the tree. Caleb kept asking me all day if it was time.. and after lunch we opened the ornament box and began the fun of recognizing favorite ornaments and hanging them on the tree. My memory of this event will be this.. Caleb found a photo of himself that I framed in a pretty gilt and enamel frame and he says.. "This is a me when I had all my teeth!" :-)
Kristi helped by putting some of the higher ornaments on the tree.. Hayden and Caleb did a wonderful job of hanging ornaments on the middle of the tree.. I had a whole section to do on the left side. The boys are very careful with all the porcelain, glass and fragile baubles.
Grandpa even helped by putting our red velvet Angel on the top of the tree. Fun story about that Angel. We were shopping as a family when the kids were young and I saw this pretty tree topper Angel dressed in red velvet and lace, a porcelain face with golden hair. They were out of them, only the display model was left.. so we passed it by. Imagine my surprise when I opened a gift that Christmas and it was the beautiful angel? :-) She's been on top of the tree every year since.
Voila! Our tree is decorated and all lit up! I do have some crocheted hearts and snowflakes to add soon. And perhaps a few ornament relocated.. shhhh..
We have a little 4 person Knit-a-Long going.. this one is Dorothy's from Australia. Her blog is "Hooks 'n' Grannies". I love the purple!
Next up is Meredith's Hitchhiker scarf.. LOVE the rich red of this and the variable shades.. her blog is "Mereknits". She lives in Florida and has 3 sons and husband and a boy dog. :-) Meredith is a very fast knitter!
Here is my HH.. goodness, it's such a fine yarn! I had trouble with the circular needle when I started as the cable was always flipping around and in my way. So I found a pair of 10" vintage faux tortoise shell needles from Australia from my collection and transferred my scarf to them. When those got full I transferred over to a 12" pair that I had. I will keep going on these until I feel I might need to move onto the cables. I wonder how long until I will get to the next color? :-)
Kristi made this cute diaper "basket" for one of Travis' co-workers who is expecting his first baby - a boy. Isn't this cute? And you can use the diapers.
I thought I'd show you something neat.. one of my son's friend's daughter (age 9) wrote this story and one of my friends illustrated this coloring book. Isn't that neat? Kristi ordered 3 of them from Amazon. It's called "Doodle Duck". Click on the link if you're interested in buying one. :-)
Kristi snapped this photo of Simba enjoying his igloo bed in the sunshine. :-)
I must say, it's wintery around here! It's been near freezing for days and our infamous East Wind is blowing so it sounds like a freight train is roaring over us. But I'm going swimming today after a few days off devoted to Thanksgiving and recovering from the same. :-) Have you got any holiday decorating done? Have a super week! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Your tree looks amazing and it was lovely to have some of the family getting involved. It was just my dear husband and I this year but we have managed to get the tree up and decorated with some lovely tender moment reminiscing on Christmas's past. Love the diaper holder, such a lovely idea. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to get glimpses of what is going on in your home over a few hills from me :) We decorated our tree Saturday night and the little girls have arranged and rearranged the Fisher Price nativity set which is currently on the hearth...but will no doubt be on the move. I am excited about the coloring book!!! Kristi's gift basket is so clever and practical! It is good to see Simba content in his cozy home. I'm looking forward to swimming today with you!!! xx
ReplyDeleteWe won't get a tree for another two weeks! Yours looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're going swimming today.
It's lovely to see your tree is up Teresa. We plan to go to the nursery after work on Wednesday to chose ours so I hope to get it up at the weekend. I'm glad your had a wonderful Thanksgiving, we had such a wonderful 4 days away with our kids....such fun! xx
ReplyDeleteMy goodness is there anything Kristi can't do? That diaper basket is a wonderful idea. Love the story of decorating your tree and the tree topper. Our tree topper is a star that's been on the family tree at Dennis's house since the year he was born. When we got married his mother gave it to us. It's nothing fancy, but it's the memories that it holds. That coloring book is so cool. I'll have to check that out on Amazon. And Simba looks so content in that igloo. What a great idea that was Teresa. Thank you for the kind offer to help with the mittens. It's not necessary, but I'll take any help I can get. ***Grin*** I'll be talking to you soon from the other side of the country! Love you Teresa.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Betsy
Hi Teresa the tree looks beautiful. We will probably get ours next week- have a real one. I meant to get my Advent star up but ran out of time. Have been so busy with stuff for Craft Fair. I will be so glad when it is over - I really don't want to do another one! The lady who asks me is so sweet though it's hard to say no - but I fear I must next time! Hugs Anne x
ReplyDeleteYour tree is so beautiful! We have two up and I need to get my classroom tree up this week. Is there anything that Kristi doesn't know how to do? :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree, lovely scarves in progress, lovely warm kitty and such a neat baby present! xoxo
ReplyDeleteTeresa - Your tree looks gorgeous. How much fun for the whole family to help decorate it. Being in the midst of redoing my new home,, I don't know if I'll get any decorating done or not. Everything is in such a mess!

Your tree looks gorgeous! And I'm so happy to Simba has some comfy shelter. The scarves are all lovely and colorful. :) Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of the whole family getting into decorating the tree. I miss that so much. I'm the main decorator around here . . . Steve brings it in and I decorate it, but it was much more fun when we had our daughter home. Cookies, too, we used to bake so many Christmas cookies and spend hours decorating them. I guess the fact is . . . Christmas is just more fun, when you have children around to enjoy it with. Their excitement rubs off on everyone. Great post!
ReplyDeleteA lovely way to decorate the tree together! When I have help with the tree I have been known to, ahem, adjust a few ornaments later..... No decorating here yet, but it is lovely to see yours in the meantime! xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like it is feeling a lot like Christmas with the cold weather and the tree up. Here it is warm and humid, today was 86 degrees out. I need cooler weather that is for sure. Thanks for the HH update, I need to get cracking on mine tonight.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you,
Meredith
Look at you guys Teresa, the tree up and decorated. It looks fabulous and so much help! I normally end up doing most of it myself now, but with xmas music playing! Scarves are looking wonderful!
ReplyDeletexoRobin Happy week!
Lovely tree and I love the story of how your red angel topper came to you! It has been cold. Warmer today but this evening with the rain it was quite chilly. Made it to the outlet mall to shop a bit before they closed. Was by the big tree so I took a few shots of it...with the puddles included! Megan said Multnomah Falls is frozen again! I'm frozen...right now! ;p Hugs and be warm! Maybe we can ice skate at your house in a few weeks? TeeHee! Take care! xx--xx
ReplyDeleteAwwww ... I think Simba might like you and your family. I love all the Christmas posts and especially your beautiful tree - very festive and starting to get exciting especially for the little ones. I did another 8 rows on my scarf last night but haven't touched it today - had some minor surgery done and have to keep my feet up for 24 hours. xox
