Enjoying the Journey

Are you enjoying your holiday month of December?  I am!  I am somewhat serene about everything.  :-)  I spent days working on my Christmas cards and as of yesterday they are all in the mail.  I maybe should do them a bit earlier next year... but it's okay.  I'm also taking a laissez faire attitude to decorating.  I do some each day.. I also think I'm going to scale back on things this year.. maybe.  Here is the simple way we have decorated our bay window in our den behind our easy chairs.  In the past I've made hills of snow and put up Dickens Village houses with sledders and all.. but not this year.

Kristi visited the dollar store and brought home a stocking for Buddy.  He was quite pleased with it! :-)

She was also quite pleased to show us the cute chair covers she got there.. aren't they cute?

And then the sun came out and I took another photo.. and do you spy the photo bomber?

I hung the sparkly snowflakes from the old brass light fixture over the table.

Kristi helped me hang the little red berry wreathes on the old oak china cabinet - somehow I was not able to reach to put them up like in years past.. am I shrinking?  30 years ago my mom told me about a friend who was selling her cabinet due to a divorce.. but told me it was too tall for her house.. I asked how much she was selling it for and she said $200.  So, that's how we came to own this cabinet.

I do believe I have too many things in my cabinet.  But what to get rid of?  Nothing!  LOL!  Not long after I got this cabinet I decided that it needed lace edging for the shelves just like in the olden days.. so I got some crochet cotton thread, found a pattern and set out to make my own lace.. I'm still proud of doing that.

I had to share the boys school photos... this is Hayden and he's in 2nd grade.

Caleb is in first grade.  Both are doing very well in school.. we're proud of them.

Kristi found this big salamander in our back yard.  I'm not sure what variety is it.  I even googled it and didn't find it in the images.  Anyone?

Well.. time to get busy.  I hope you are taking the season easy and not stressing out.. enjoy yourself!!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. I scaled down my decorating Teresa. Now that the Craft Fair is over I'm trying to take it easier ( like you I think it would be more fun not doing it! ) Love the cabinet. Hugs Anne x

  5. Your home is being to look so festive.
Kristi is such a sweetheart to think of Buddy. Now he has a stocking to be hung on the fireplace along with everyone else. I do hope he'll receive a chewy or three from Santa. After all it takes energy to be a photo bomber. (smile)
Is that a blue spotted or a gray cheeked salamander? Anyway he sure is a big healthy looking salamander.
The boy's school photo's are adorable.

  8. Glad you got some sunshine today. We keep hearing of the terrible flooding in Portland and lots of rain at home too. Great finds for Kristi at the dollar store. I'm Malays amazed at the goodies I find. We've had pretty low key holiday preparations so far. It helps not being home. Ha! I'll probably stress out once I'm home. Cute photos of the boys. They're growing quickly.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. I am enjoying every second, adding to the décor each day and it is now finished the cards have been written and posted and all the presents have been wrapped and delivered. I have a lot of baking left to do, which is a favourite pastime. I love the lace on your cabinet, beautiful work. The snowflakes hanging are stunning, such a simple but effective idea. Handsome boys, growing up so quickly.

  14. Teresa the table and sunlight upon it is just so lovely. It is whimsical with the Santa backs. Im enjoying many LITTLE things around the house. The tree is not yet up as the cats are going to shred it I'm sure......there will be lights only. Spare the ornaments, save the cats I say.
I have a pine scented candle lit currently.
We have a little tiny tree we put in the top bedroom upstairs. You can see its charm from the outside of the house.
I havent' gotten out the Holiday placemats...I think I'll do that now!

  17. Yuck on that reptile, we have tons of lizards here but they are small. Love how your house is so beautiful and festive this time of year. I am not taking things slow or really enjoying it. I am done with my cards, got the teacher/therapists gifts ready. But tomorrow I have to spend much of the day getting things ready at my Dad's. I don't recommend a parent dying this time of year, there is too much work to do.
    Hugs,
    Meredith

  18. I just love those chair covers. Everything looks festive. Really only takes a few bits here and there to make a holiday home. The crocheted edging is really pretty. Is is a Northwestern Salamander?

The northwestern salamander (Ambystoma gracile) inhabits the northwest Pacific Coast of North America. These fairly large salamanders grow to 8.7 in (220 mm) in length. It is found from southeastern Alaska on May Island, through Washington and Oregon south to the mouth of the Gulala River, Sonoma County, California.
