We're in the deep freeze here in our part of the Columbia River Gorge. Our hillsides are looking like this. I took 3 other ladies to the Portland Women Forum's meeting yesterday and my friend Sally remarked about the heavy icicles on her way to my house so when we returned home we all went back to look at them. This is right before you get to Vista House. I snapped a few images with my iPhone from the car window.. :-)
And although we are having some very sunny frigid days right now the predictions are dire for some precipitation heading our way for the weekend.. snow.. ice.. the works. I have a luncheon today but Dayle is planning to go lay in some foodstuff supplies for the weekend.. just in case we're snowbound for days. :-) What we've learned is oftentimes they predict weather events that fizzle out. But you never know, do you? We'll soon find out!
Our hummingbird feeder has been freezing so we have to bring it in to defrost before hanging it back out for the tiny little birds suffer from lack of food. The little birds used to fly south for the winter but now some are staying here where they know they'll have food.
I'm trying to get my old happy self back but it's slow going. I do have social plans after the holidays which are helping me get back into the swing-of-things. :-)
So.. what are you up to? How's your weather? What's making you happy?
((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Those photos are just beautiful Teresa, although I don't envy you those freezing temperatures and the snow heading your way. Dayle does right to get in some extra supplies just to be on the safe side. We are happy about our move after years of dreaming. Sadly we will be moving further away from our daughters but we have plans for extended visits and for meeting half way. We are going to try our best to make it work. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteBrrrr that does look so cold. We have had a cold snap here Teresa but nothing like yours and no snow. It's due to warm up again at the weekend.Keep snug and safe and enjoy the weekend. Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you posted these photos . . . they are a sight to see . . . amazing.
ReplyDeleteHello Teresa. beautiful photos indeed. We have had a couple of very frosty mornings but otherwise seems quite warm to me. I am happy to be at home and getting the Christmas decorations away and generally tidying up. I am struggling to find my crafting mojo. I am tired and a visit to my doctor on Wednesday after our return home from taking mum back revealed my blood pressure is too high. Did tell doctor I'm not surprised after the few days with mum and then continuing to worry about her. Hope you soon find your 'happy' Hugs Anne x
ReplyDeleteOur weather? Like yours but I think it may be even colder here. Although it makes pretty pictures, I can't stand to be outside very long. What's making me happy? Knitting/crochet podcasts and my yarn are going a long way with that. And lots of chocolate tea from Mandy. She found it in a shop in Annapolis. Yummy. :-) Stay warm and dry.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Brrr! Love the icicles:) in south central PA we had 3 inches of snow last nite, first snow of winter!
ReplyDeleteLove your frozen photos! WE may be done with the twenties here finally as our thermometer says 39, the rhodies leaves are uncurling, and the clouds are back. I've got the GK cold and have been staying home, reading and knitting.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I need to get out more to see the sights! Those icicles are amazing! I have not seen anything like them near me, but our ponds are definitely freezing. I stopped at Freddies on the way home today to get some Cutie oranges and almond milk and salad just in case we do get the storm they are predicting. I wonder if Dayle stood in a long lines like the ones at the Sandy store. It was so good to see you and Taci today, and I am glad you are starting to feel better! I'm glad you enjoyed Snow Girl and am wondering if the girls will get to create her sister this weekend :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting! Love with hugs from Gracie xx
I'm going on the record for "fizzle". Today it went from 15' to 37' in a matter of hours. The single snowflake or triple snowflake is waffling all over tomorrow for when the weather event starts. And it's supposed to be 34' or higher tomorrow. No matter in any case, I am working all weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh.. meant to add - love your icy photos!
ReplyDeleteHello, it was -10°c this morning and we are wating for snow tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteCourage Teresa, "more you go down in the swiming pool, more you'll go high next.
I hope it will be very soon ofcors !
Be happy ! Friendly
Oh my that ice is amazing! I hope that you are all safe from the crazy weather. I am having a hard time getting myself moving forward, seems so much negativity is out there on the news. It makes me so sad. Feel better Teresa.
ReplyDeleteHugs Teresa. Stay in and stay safe. Knitting is keeping me sane. Whatever would I do without my knitting? It is 5 degrees out. My old happy self seems to emerge when I can sit and knit. I had a rough go after the kids left but We are settling down to life as usual again.
ReplyDeleteWe got caught driving home yesterday on icy roads from Milwaukie to home. When we left there was no snow or ice. Met with Justin and fam for brunch. So glad to be home and watch snow fall from here. 3/4" of accumulation. Glad you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this weather. Finally a real winter with snow!
ReplyDeleteSo happy the holidays are over so we can get on with the new year.
2017 will prove to be an interesting year full of promise and new challenges for a few. I'm testing out my new sewing machine today. And I'm waiting on a large shipment of new furniture for our house and my studio. Yes, this is going to be a fun & exciting year.
Our weather is freezing too. I thought I had moved far enough south to get away from all the cold but it sure got cold in a hurry here in the last few days. So cold that our water lines froze! Now it needs to get warm again fast. LOL! I'm happily knitting pink pussy cat hats for the Womens March in DC and that's taking my mind of the cold. The ice is pretty when it's not in your water lines. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that looks terrible - but also very pretty. Terrible if I were there as I can't cope with really cold weather. What I've often wondered when I see pictures like this, is how come the road isn't covered in ice and if it is, wouldn't the cars skid all over the place? Sweltering here at the moment. xox
ReplyDeleteThose icicles are incredible - thanks for showing us your photos. Hopefully the weather won't be as bad as they're predicting. Here in the UK the weather people are saying there may be snow and ice in some areas later this week, but I'm hoping it'll miss us as I don't like driving when it's icy or snowy.
ReplyDeleteHere in Europe the weather is mixed up. Greece (and Turkey) have a foot of snow, which never happens, and us in Holland got just a sprinkling. My grandson, 5 years old, has never seen proper snow yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd what do you do for food? Does everybody in your region have a big freezer full of stuff, for when you can't get out?
