With the influx of 9 new chickens to the farm.. we realized we would need a bigger chicken coop. Plus, the old coop we have was not designed to consider nest boxes so they would lay their eggs under their perches.. not good. So, we looked at a coop at Coastal Farm store and found this. It's WAY better built, has 5 nest boxes where you can open and get your eggs from the outside. It has opening and closing windows.
This is the roomy interior, I can see the floor covered with straw or wood chips and the feeder just inside the door. The 5 nest boxes are on the right. They will be filled with fresh straw.
The 2 long roosts. This coop can handle up to 15 hens, but 11 or less is good. :-)
Here are the chickie babies.. they are growing. My son Travis put a chicken wire "lid" over the clawfoot bathtub chick nursery. Now we shouldn't have to worry about them "flying the coop". :-)
My eldest granddaughter, Jenna, who lives FAR far away in Ohio, has taken up playing flute in the band. They had a massive group of 600 kids from all the area schools get together and have a group performance.. she is the girl in black in the center. I'm so proud of her!
Here is the group performing and all the proud parents. :-)
Here is a YouTube video that my daughter posted to share with me!
Can you believe some of the early blooming Rhododendrons are in full bloom around town?
My hibiscus bloomed.. goodness I love this flower.
My sister Denise and her husband went to Spring Training for baseball in Arizona. They also visited Tombstone and watched a recreation of the shootout at the O.K. Corral with these guys. Aren't they handsome? LOL!
We have to have a stump removed from in front of the current chicken coop, the man just came out to look at it and the removal will be on Monday. Then we have to figure out how to get the new coop moved into place. It's Caleb's birthday today! We're all going out to dinner to celebrate, he's 8 now! I hope you're having a good week. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Happy Birthday, Caleb! 🎶 and I loved listening to Jenna's beautiful music! The new hen house looks like a clever design, and my brain is busy trying to visualize where you are going to put it. Your Hibiscus is a champ, and I have been delighted to see Azaleas blooming around town, but now will have to look for Rhodies, too...so pretty. Yay, Spring! I hope you and yours have a wonderful weekend [back from adventurous Tombstone] or wherever! xx
ReplyDelete8 is an excellent age, my littlest boy will attest to that. I hope Caleb has a lovely day. The new coop is brilliant, hope you manage to get it in place okay. Well done Jenna on playing the flute to that massive audience, quite daunting I imagine. Hope that you're completely better now Teresa and that you and Dayle have a good weekend with plenty of spring sunshine. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteWonderful band performance! I'm sure you're proud of Jenna! My daughter has played flute since elementary school. Marched in the Pasadena Rose Parade in HS. She still performs with the Portland Wind Symphony and she's 31.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Caleb! Enjoy the sunshine. Yippee!
Hi Teresa! Your chicken coop is really neat. Those little chicks are precious. Flowers are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.

My goodness, Jenna looks all grown up - I couldn't get the video to load unfortunately, but I'm sure they must have sounded wonderful. Happy birthday to Caleb - don't they grow up too quickly? I love your new chicken coop - very fancy indeed and will be lovely for those cute little chicks. Those rhododendron bushes look gorgeous. I have a hot pink one around the other side of my house (the side we hardly ever see) .... its just outside my ensuite window so I only get to see the flowers when I'm opening and closing the window!! Do you know if they do any good in a vase? I'm sure you'll have a lovely dinner for Caleb's birthday. We celebrated my eldest daughter's 41st birthday last night with dinner at the club. Xox

That's quite the chicken coop and hope it works out fine for your chickens. My friend and I were at FirPoint farms late a.m. for garden palooza. Lots of plants and pretty items galore. I bought 4 plants and nearly bought a leaf embedded in concrete. It was so pretty. But I walked away. I had enuf stuff. Hope Caleb had a great 8th birthday today! Thanks for sharing the you tube video of granddaughter's band performance. It sounded lovely! Happy weekend!
