Happy Independence Day 2018

Happy 4th of July!  Today those of us in the USA celebrate our Declaration of Independence in 1776.  I took my fused glass platter that I designed, cut the glass and fused in a kiln outside to get a nice photo to share with you.  I used iridescent glass to make it.

And now to share our 4th of July parade here in Corbett, Oregon.  You might want to get comfortable.  LOL!  Up early and Dayle went up to the top of our road to stake out a claim on the pie shaped area by putting up a shade canopy and setting out our folding chairs.  My sister Denise came out and brought a garbanzo bean salad and a chocolate cake and joined us to watch the parade.  A 1935 red pickup truck, isn't it cute?

This cute clown lady in her husband's Mustang.

There were cars, horses, tractors, floats and kids.

Lots of neat vintage cars, this is a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible.

Not sure what this is.

1962 Chevrolet Corvette.

This fabulous woody with surfboards on the top.

My sister Roberta and her husband Ted in their newer Mustang - this is the first year they've joined their club for this parade.

I called out to this girl and asked her what kind of dog this is and she said it's a Maltese/Chihuahua cross.  Isn't it cute?

Another cool old Mustang.

Most of the cars and floats tossed out candy but one of them tossed out these neat painted rocks.. cool, huh?

This vehicle is hard to describe, so I'll let you make up your mind about it.

This was our view across the road.  Black Angus cows live here and there were several calves there.

The little calves with their mothers.

This young mother walked by and her little guy  was going "Vroom vroom".

This is a friend of mine in her vintage car, she passed a pretty red flower over to me.

Our local fire fighters and their nice new fire truck.

Isn't this a neat old flatbed truck?

A 1911 Ford.

A log truck.  Oregon produces a LOT of lumber.

A lot of tractors went by but I picked this one out to share with you.

I loved this float, a pirate ship with some very energetic pirates on it!  I think it's the cast of "The Pirates of Penzance".

Our local 4-H club, the "Corbett Critters".

A young woman with her painted pinto horse.

Patriotically decorated girls and their horses.

Our high school cheer club.  The end of the parade, we sure had a fun time and the boys collected a LOT of candy which they shared with their elders.

We then headed home.  Hayden saw this pretty Double Delight rose and picked it and brought it to me.  He then went in and found a bud vase to put it in.  We had it on our picnic table.  Hayden also set the table while Denise and I concocted the macaroni salad and baked beans.

He was very proud of the rose.  :-)  And my trusty photo bomber.

Dayle BBQed hotdogs and cheeseburgers. I added to the cooked macaroni - mayo, a squirt of yellow mustard, relish, 8 chopped hard boiled eggs, chopped celery, salt and pepper and some fresh cut chives dusted with paprika.  To 3 cans of baked beans I added a big squirt of ketchup, a little yellow mustard, some molasses and one whole sliced orange and let it simmer for a few hours.  Denise brought a delicious fresh baked chocolate cake which we just had for dessert with vanilla ice cream.  YUM!

An update on Kristi's Giant Silk Moth - after releasing it - the next day it was still here on my 4th of July Rose!  So, I got a few more snapshots of it.

Isn't she wooly and wonderful?  Kristi found that the female has finer antennae than the male.

A last shot of her, we all hope she found a mate.  We have not seen her today, we wish her well on her week of life.

I think we'll sleep well tonight!  I hope you had a great day, for those here in the USA who celebrate and for those of you visiting from around the world, I hope you enjoyed seeing our American holiday of freedom.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  11. Hi Teresa, I look forward to your 4th of July post every year! It is always fun. This year: I LOVE the plate that you made - gorgeous (and perfect with your Lady Liberty). And I love the painted pony/horse. I showed Fletch the cars when I pulled up your post on my phone - he loved seeing them. Thanks for sharing!!

  12. Hmmmmm where is the comment I thought I left...maybe I just thought it and did not type that I enjoyed this post from beginning to end! Thanks for sharing the great parade and decorations, the amazing moth, and your sweet grand with a lovely rose. We had hamburgers and hotdogs with friends around a campfire and then went inside to play a card game before calling it a night without fireworks in deference to my son-in-law and youngest daughter who had to rise early for work the next day, but it was a good day celebrating the freedom we enjoy thanks to those who came before us and founded our nation. xx
