Merry-Go-Round and Vermilion Lighthouse

Hello!  On Friday we packed up our things and headed out for more adventure.  I'll tell you more about this lighthouse in a bit.  :-)

Our first stop was the Merry-Go-Round in Sandusky, Ohio.  What a fun place!!  It had a working antique carousel in the middle and the girls got to ride it twice.  It went FAST and the music was fabulous!!

My daughter Amy even got in on the fun!!  LOL!

The whole carousel.

The second ride, Paige is on an Ostrich, Jenna on a horse.

All around the walls were fabulous, historic and interesting carousel animals.

Lions.. and tigers.. no bears?

Camels, goats, rabbits!

I loved the horned goats.

Lots of reindeers!

This is a vintage Wurlitzer organ full of merry-go-round music.

William Dentzel was a famous carver and painter of carousel pieces.

Then we drove along the lakeshore to see the Vermilion Lighthouse.  It was a charming area with cute shops in vintage storefronts and then we found the beacon and it was on this wonderful beach.  There was a wooden deck with benches and even sun shade umbrellas where I was able to watch the girls run on the beach and wade in the waters of Lake Erie.  See them in the water?

Lucky girls running free on the beach.

It was warm but a nice breeze blew in off the water.

I asked someone what the building was on the point and it was a private home.  Sheesh.. what lucky people.

We spied boats coming in and out of this area so drove down and saw all these amazing houses on canals with access straight out to the lake!  Oh my!

More fun for the girls.

We bid the lake area farewell and headed South towards Dayton, Ohio and home.  We were surprised to find ourselves in Amish country!  I quickly snapped this image of a man in his carriage as he turned into his farm drive.  Pardon it being taken through a car window.

Happily we lucked upon this wonderful country store and just had to stop and check it out.  It's the Olivesburg General Store.

And what did we find?  ICE CREAM!  And lots of fun things and even antiques. There was a Roseville planter pot that I would have loved to have, for only $18, but was worried about getting it home in one piece.

178 years of operation!!

The girl's guinea pig, Oreo.  We all wonder how she'll react to the puppy.  :-)

And then yesterday was the big day!!  We drove an hour and a half to pick up the puppy.  I will share more photos on my next post.  We're all having fun with her today.  She loves me!  When I hold her she nuzzles into my neck and wiggles like crazy.  The whole family adores here and today is all about getting used to her and vice versa.  Lot's of walks outside.  :-)

Well.. that's it for today.  Have a wonderful week!  I fly home on Thursday.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. It looks as though you're having a lovely time with your girls. The lake and carousel are both wonderful. We love our carousel here in Spokane. What a sweet puppy. You're going to have a hard time leaving the puppy almost as much as leaving your girls! She is a cutie.
    Blessings,
