The saving of our old porch is done! We decided to just keep the old porch swing and Richard is going to put a coat of white paint on it tomorrow and hang it for us. We also plan to add two white rockers as soon as we can find them. We're very pleased!
It's nice to know that the old farmhouse porch has been given new life and will last longer than.. us. :-0
Cedar really makes some wonderful decking!
He also added some siding below the railing down to the ground and painted it and it looks so much better, it used to be concrete foundation and not pretty at all. He put a fresh coat of white on the trim so everything looks snazzy. Pardon the xmas lights that we should have removed. But it's almost time to put them back up.. LOL!
The new red siding. Any suggestions of what we might plant in front of the porch? Or leave it as is?
I walked around and snapped these photos just a bit ago, this is from the other end of the porch looking out to the driveway.
A closer look at the cedar wood.
This is the little forest to the East of our house.
I'm off to swim soon.. then the weekend where they've predicted rain, thankfully. I hope it pours and pours. Do you have any fun weekend plans? There is nothing on our docket, but I'm sure we'll find something to do. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Teresa, your porch is gorgeous! I love the cedar decking and the stain is beautiful. Your red and white trim is so nice. I'd hate to recommend plantings for your area as I'm really not sure what grows well there. From the looks of your garden, I believe everything does! If it were here I'd plant dwarf azaleas that wouldn't get too big. White ones would be pretty against the red. ♥
ReplyDeleteYour new decking on the porch is beautiful. Everything has come together so well and your home looks just wonderful. Send some rain over our way, too, please. But give me time to clean the gutters first!
ReplyDeleteNow you will have to have a family gathering to celebrate the fine finish of your porch renewal! If you decide to plant something in front of the porch you might consider using large pots that you could refill seasonally, but it is inviting just as it is. Happy weekend to you and yours! I have some meetings at church to attend this weekend, but before that I plan to see you soon at the pool : ) xx
ReplyDeleteI love your style of house. We don't have anything like that in the UK. As you seem to like bling, I'd recommend planting a row of cineraria silver leaf. They grow to about half a metre tall, are "evergreen" and put up with extreme cold and heat and do not need to be watered. You don't have to do much to them, except maybe remove the little yellow flowers if you prefer the bushy silver look.
ReplyDeleteYour porch turned out beautifully. I love the decking and the stain that you chose. The siding just finishes things off very well doesn’t it? We bought our white rocker at Cracker Barrel and it has held up very well through the years. Have fun swimming and enjoy the rain. We aren’t predicted to get any, although it would be very nice. Blessings always, Betsy
ReplyDeleteI hope your swim was fun! Your new porch is looking just fabulous, I imagine you'll spend many happy hours sitting there and enjoying the garden. Have a lovely weekend. x
ReplyDeleteIt looks absolutely wonderful Teresa! I love all that wood! What a special home you've got.
ReplyDeletekeep well

The porch looks so fresh and inviting. A nice bank of variegated hostas might look nice planted in front of the red porch skirting, along with a few small evergreen plants for the winter months when the hostas die back ~ just a thought!
ReplyDeleteOh wow just perfect! I love a porch swing, my husband made one for our daughter and it finally made it to Oregon this summer.
ReplyDeleteThe cedar is gorgeous! What a wonderful re-finish for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful job done on the porch, it looks amazing. I love the cedar wood. Hope you enjoyed your swim and have a great weekend. There is nothing in our docket either we intend having a quiet one.
ReplyDeleteThe front porch looks amazing - your fellow did a great job. Hope you got the rain you wanted - we had a reasonably good downpour night before last but it would have been lovely if it had lasted a lot longer. Our country is in the worst drought on record and our farmers are doing it real tough.
ReplyDeleteWow your porch looks fantastic. I hope you enjoy sitting out there with family and friends. It all looks so inviting and restful. Cathy x
ReplyDeleteIt is BEE-YOU-TI-FUL!!!! Enjoy!!!
ReplyDeleteI’m loving your new porch. I can see the white swing and some new white rockers. They’ll look perfect. Hope you have some dry days to sit out there this autumn and enjoy. B x
ReplyDeleteI want to sit out there with you in a rocker and crochet and chat about life and friendship. IT looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe porch looks amazing and I can picture you spending many happy hours out there. We're having a noisy weekend with cousins visiting and hopefully a picnic on Sunday. Have a lovely week. xx Susan
