The Mountain & Crochet Jar Jacket

Here in the Portland area of Oregon we have a beautiful mountain.. called Mount Hood.  Everyone here just calls it "the mountain".  Today was clear and brilliantly sunshine-y, but cold and windy.  I accompanied a good friend of mine to a big luncheon where she was honored as a great volunteer who has given much to her community.  I heard many stories of many volunteers who have done amazing things for their fellow man.  Very heartening.  On the drive home I spied this.. and asked took this photo.  Isn't it just pretty?  I live nearer the mountain that where this photo was taken.  I love it.
Another shot.
Below is my crocheted "jar jacket".  I'd seen a colorful one on Attic24, Lucy's blog.  Then on another favorite blog, Tif at Dottie Angel did some jacket jars in off-white wooly yarn.  I loved them too.  Then I got to thinking of antique jars I'd seen that were carried on boats and they had knotted netting on them, probably to help keep them from breaking.  So, I rummaged through my grandparents Kitchen Queen cabinet and found an old "Ball" jar in aqua glass and I used some natural cotton to crochet a jacket for one.  Below is the result.  Isn't it neat to see the tea light candle glowing from within?
Tomorrow I'm going to a tea at my sister's house, she's making some fun things and my younger sister is bringing homemade scones with lemon curd and clotted cream.  I'll take some photos to share with you.  My daughter and 2 granddaughters will be there too.  :-)

I hope you're having a wonderful week, I sure am!

((hugs)) Teresa

  2. What a beautiful mountain Teresa - it looks like something out of a book. Great photo. The jar cover looks pretty with the candle in it. I've been thinking of doing one to keep my pens in but haven't found the right jar as yet. I'll have to eat more stuff out of the fridge :)

  3. That mountain is beautiful! I love your bell jar and jacket. I'm trying to do something similar, but make a strap of some sort so that I can hang them outside because I love the light coming through the yarn and the pretty designs. Have a wonderful time at tea!
