I sewed up the Teddy Bear I'm making for my granddaughter Paige who lives in Ohio. I decided to embroider on the eyes, nose and mouth so it would be more home-made than sewing on fake eyes or buttons. I need to buy some new ribbon for his neck as this is just a scrap of brown. What color of ribbon do you think I should get? I almost bought some yellow grosgrain yesterday at Michaels but had forgotten my wallet! But I also considered a nice lime green for contrast. My next bear will be "purple" for her older sister, Jenna. The pattern can be found HERE.
Yesterday was a big bust. I drove into the gym to go swimming and noticed that the door to the utility area of the pool was open and there were two big hot water heaters sitting there with workmen and plumbing trucks. Uh oh. So, right there from the car I called the front desk and asked if the pool was open. Yes, the pool is open. Well, what are they working on? Oh.. all the showers are closed as they're installing new water heaters. So... I can swim, but not shower after? Yep! Right. Ummm.. no. So, I went to Michaels to get some black embroidery thread for my bear... and some purple yarn. After shopping around in there for quite some time I go up to pay.. and D'OH.. I'd gone to town without my wallet! ::sigh:: So, I drive ALLLLLLLLLL the way back home having accomplished NOTHING. After recovering from that wasted effort I finished off the bear. :-)
We had a very sunny day yesterday which was nice. Today it's a bit hazy but I think it's burning off and it's becoming sunny - but it's supposed to rain tomorrow. I wanted to show you my xmas cactus is in bloom again! I love those plants! I'm heading off soon to meet my friend Shirley from 7th grade AND my younger sister for lunch at Claim Jumper. Shirley lives in Seattle but has a lot of family and friends here in Portland so she comes down on a regular basis. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend! Tomorrow we're invited to our son's house and our other son and his family will be there. Busy, busy!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I think he's great as he is - made with love and what you have :) Love your blog chick! Di zz

DeleteOh I do that! Go shopping without my purse, it is sooo annoying! I agree swimming without a shower too, nope! I hope you have a lovely weekend :) I think Green ribbon will be really pretty on this bear.
ReplyDeleteYour bear is fantastic and he looks pretty good with that brown bow. If you really want to change it, I'd vote for red. My first bear was a yellow one with a red ribbon. I loved him and still have him. He's now 67 years old !! Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteThe bear is super, he will be much loved Im sure. Your christmas cactus looks lovely, I received one for my birthday 2 weeks ago. How should I look after it to keep it looking at its best?
ReplyDeleteHelenxx
Helen, I keep my 3 xmas cactus in a South facing garden window and they're doing well. I know you have to be careful not to over water them.. I feel the leaf tips and if they are thin they need water. Both of the ones that I re-potted are happy. I bet yours would like to be re-potted as most of them in the stores are root bound. You can check that by pulling the plant out of the pot and seeing if the roots are bound up. Have fun with it!
DeleteYou know I might just have to make me one of this. I'm going to pin it for the link to the pattern. Been reading up on all this google stuff today and then two senior help desk calls. I'm stepping away after the last one. Booking travel online at 80 is not a good thing.
ReplyDeleteYou made the right decision about the teddy's eyes and nose---looks SO cute this way! What about a purple ribbon for the bear's neck? I think that would look great, but perhaps your granddaughter likes another color better.
ReplyDeleteI think my cactus may need more light and possibly a larger pot to grow in. It seems like it hasn't bloomed in a long, long time.
Blessings,
Aimee
Aimee - sounds like your plant needs a new and bigger pot! Some nurseries will even re-pot them for you if you buy the pot there.
DeleteThank you so much for your advice! I will do that this week -- I would love to see it in bloom again:)
DeleteBlessings,
Aimee
your bear is very very very cute love the yarn colour.
ReplyDeleteTeresa,
ReplyDeleteThe bear is adorable. Paige is going to love it. If your grandgirlies are anything like my grandgirlies, they would choose pink for the ribbon!!! Too bad the day was such a bust yesterday at the gym and then to Michael's without your money!!! Oh my...that is a bad thing! Especially if you travel very far to shop! Drat!!!
But at least the day ended nicely with you finishing up that cute bear! Hope you had a nice lunch today at Claim Jumper!!!
Oh my your teddy is adorable! One day I will learn to crochet...I promise myself! xoxoxo Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you decided to embroider the bear. He is perfect whatever color ribbon you choose for him. No swim, no buy...sigh, but I'm glad you are enjoying the beautiful Christmas cactus and busy times with family and friends! <3
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bear Teresa, I think he looks lovely in yellow! I agree that a lime green ribbon would be a great contrast.
ReplyDeleteThe bear is sooo cute! What about a purple ribbon for this one and a yellow ribbon on Jenna's purple bear? These little bears will be treasured no matter what colour ribbon I'm sure! :-) xxxx
ReplyDeleteHe looks great Teresa and I agree that hand stitched features look much better than bought eyes and noses. What a shame re your wasted day but I bet that will be the last time you forget your purse in a looooong time now!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Sunday,
Jane x
Such a sweet cuddly bear! His eyes, nose and mouth look lovely the way you have embroidered them. Love the picture of the Christmas cactus with the red barn behind too!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week ahead, Teresa.

Love your bear! I might have to try this. I've never made a crochet animal. Everything I crochet is flat. I tried a cupcake once and it was a disaster!
ReplyDeleteOh it's so cute! Handmade is always the best!
ReplyDeleteCute! does he/she have a name yet?
ReplyDeleteRed tartan or a black and white stripe/check ribbon may be? and big lol
Have fun hugs x
The bear is gorgeous Teresa. Not sure what colour to suggest.I think the embroidered feature are best. I usually have to try a lot of different ones with my projects before deciding. The christmas cactus is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteMissed your last post as busy with visitors. The Falls are fabulous - look forward as wll to see what you make at basket work class and spinning. Hope you've enjoyed your weekend as much as I have. Anne x
The bear is so cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures, as always.
Wishing you a wonderful day filled with many blessings. :)
That yellow bear is adorable. Hope you had a great time with your friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
The bear is so very cute. Can't wait to see the purple one :)
ReplyDeleteLove the bear. He is adorable and I am sure will put big smiles on your g-daughter's face, :) what a day you had. I have been there and left the house without my wallet and it can be so frustration the only good thing about it is you saved $$$$ Have a great day at your son's house,
ReplyDeleteYep Teresa-that's the same pattern I used! Your bear turned out great and I love his face. He's ready to be very well loved and you can see it in his face.
ReplyDeleteMy cactus is also blooming this week. It makes a cheerful corner in the living room.
Blessings,
Betsy
Paige will love her bear, he's wonderful, and especially because it's a handmade gift, they're always so much more special. I looked for the video of the waterfall you mentioned, but couldn't find it, never mind, the photos give you a real idea of the power and the noise in all that falling water! Vanessa xxx
ReplyDeleteThe teddy bear is too cute! I know your grandaughter will LOVE it. I seem to be having more "bust" days as I get older. My mind just doesn't work as well as it used to. I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi, I was looking for knitted teddy bear patterns and came across your two matching teddy bears. I am knitting for a charity in South Africa and was wondering how I would be able to get this pattern.
