It was my volunteer day at Multnomah Falls today. After my sister and I had lunch in the lodge and before we began our volunteer shift we walked up to the viewing plaza to see how much water was coming over the falls and it was a *LOT*.. it was *ROARING*!
At the plaza if you look to the right you can see a waterfall that is only active during heavy water days.. it's pretty.
It was pretty misty there on the plaza and the roar of the water was loud! 7500 gallons of water PER SECOND goes over the falls when the water is running high - that is a lot of water, folks!
The moss loves this place.. nice and moist.
Greeeeeeeeen.
3 trees and a rock.. and some ferns.
A look back on our way back to the lodge.
Our beloved lodge with the smoke rising from the fireplace.
This is a shot from behind the information desk.. I worked on my bear during our shift in between visitors.
I crocheted the 2 ears today after I sewed on the 2 legs. Almost done.. I've decided to embroider the eyes, nose and mouth on as it will be more "home made" than if I bought some eyes. Don't you think?
In other news.. I'm rather excited about something. I have re-acquainted with a high school friend via Facebook, her name is Kevynne. She is a talented weaver. I'd put a photo of one of my baskets on Facebook and she commented that she'd just taken a basket weaving class at the Damascus Fiber Arts School and suggested I take a class. So, I emailed the school and asked to be notified when they would be having another class and a few days ago they let me know they were planning a cedar bark basket class using the Skokomish & Tsimshian Indian techniques. So, I signed up! I also signed up for 2 spinning workshops. I will be taking my own spinning wheel there and an extra benefit of that will be that the instructor can look at my wheel and tell me if I have it set up with the proper tensions, etc. Woo hoo! Needless to say I will take photos and share it with you. The first workshop is in just 2 weeks!
Also.. on Tuesday my 2 sisters and I met for lunch at Macaroni Grill and then went to see the movie "The Descendent" with George Clooney. It was a very serious movie and had a lot of sad parts, but it was set in Hawaii and I just loved seeing all the island scenery and the sound track was wonderful Hawaiian music. It was worth seeing for those two things.. oh.. and George Clooney's adorable mug. After the movie we were chatting in the mall food court area and talked my older sister into buying an iPhone 4S! :-D Now all of us 4 siblings have one! Fun!
I hope you're having a good week and have fun plans for the weekend. Thanks for visiting!! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I'll not only see you at basket class but probably spinning too. You are going to love our community of women! There are a few men as well. All very talented and great friends.
ReplyDeleteKevynne, I'm thrilled you'll be in the same basket class and spinning too! Fun!
DeleteAnother beautiful day at the Falls. I would never get tired of it either. And are you not the lucky gal to be able to crochet while you work.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of spinning wheel do you use? I use an Ashford single treadle. Awesome falls! So glad you get to attend the two classes! Embroidered bear will be extra special! Oregonian reported Apple had great 4th quartedr sales. I know members of my family helped by getting iphone 4S models as well. (: Fun indeed! <3
ReplyDeleteHi Gracie, I have a Kromski Polonaise. It's really pretty. I actually have an interesting spinning wheel for sale which I used for years. It's all hand made of cherry, not one nail or screw, all pegged together and the metal is all hand forged iron. But I don't need two. :-) I started with an Ashford which I put together from a box. I'm an Apple fanatic, have the MacBook Pro, an iPad, iPod, iPhone.. this is my 2nd one. I even attended 3 MacWorld Expos in San Francisco back in the day. :-)
DeleteBeautiful photographs and love the video. Go you, with all the classes looking forward to seeing the results. I am also looking forward to seeing the finished bear, it looks great so far, I find making toys really tricky. Hope you will have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, look at all that water! I couldn't watch the video ('currently not available') but I can very well imagine all the noise it makes! Your pictures of the moss and the fern are beautiful, and yaay for the workshops! It will be loads of fun! :-) xxxx
ReplyDeleteThe falls always look very impressive - what is the distance from top to bottom? I think you should sew the bears face - much cuter than purchased eyes. He's looking lovely and I can hardly wait to see his picture when he's finished. Isn't it wonderful that you've found your long lost friend that has lead to the weaving and spinning classes? Hope you enjoy them. After seeing your iPhone photos, I've been pondering about whether to get one or not. I'm not a huge user as far as phone calls go but having it in your handbag all the time would be good as you never know when a photo opportunity pops up. What's stopping me is that it might be just a bit too technical for me. My eldest daughter has one and I'm sure she'd help if I do decide to get one.
ReplyDeleteYou live in such a beautiful place. I love the photos. Your bear will look great with embroidered features. Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteOut of all of the pictures you've posted of the falls, I definitely think this one has had the most water pouring over the edge! Wow! I can only imagine how loud that must be. All of the surrounding green makes the falls that much more beautiful. Hurrah for pretty moss :) Have fun at your upcoming classes!
ReplyDelete~Lacey
that yellow teddy is beautiful- will you be putting them in your Etsy shop for sale once you have made the 4 for your grandchildren?
ReplyDeleteps I have just discovered your blog and love reading it- Denise (UK)
I thought about dyeing and spinning my own....I don't have enough time as it is now. :o( I'm really obsessed with hats at the moment. Love the falls pics!

Oops I meant place. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa, I am getting a bit caught up here in blogland. First, love the bear. I think that yellow will be so exciting to your granddaughter. It is nice that your daughter has found a nice house, I know you miss them terribly but you want them in a nice home. The Falls are gorgeous as usual. And can I say how jealous I am about all your fun classes. I have been thinking about learning how to spin. But I don't think I have the time to commit to it just yet. I will live through you.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you,
Meredith
What a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog after visiting the Hen house, your photos are stunning, how lovely to meet up with an old friend. I've never had that pleasure living miles away from where I grew up.
