Diss and Dat

Hi my friends.. how is your week going?  It's been busy here, but good busy.  We had a fun afternoon at our son's house - he's becoming quite a cook!  He made roasted, marinated tri-tip steak, cheesy garlic mashed potatoes and a green salad.  He and our oldest grandson even made brownies for dessert.  Our youngest grandchild made me laugh - he's got a new "thing".  Our son told him to "show us your cute face" and Caleb tipped his head to the side and his head against his shoulder and put on the CUTEST smily face ever.  And he does it on command now.  I promise I will get a photo of it next time I see him.  Below is my "rescue" Christmas Cactus that I got from my mom's room before she passed away.  Each time it blooms I feel as if my Mom is telling me hello, she loved plants and had a real green thumb.
The photo above and below were taken with my BGC (Big Girl Camera).  The plant below is a variegated Ficus - I love how the leaves looks with the light coming through them.
My Hibiscus bloomed again today.  I will never get tired of these flowers!
This is a rare occurrence.   Buddy the Cairn Terrier was here first.  Then Lucy the Himalayan decided she wanted in the action.  I gotta tell you that my lap gets very crowded with the dog, the cat AND my 17 inch MacBook Pro all in a row!
Yesterday I had a meeting at Multnomah Falls with the USFS and some Friends board members - then I went swimming.  Today was a rare unscheduled day - and it was beautiful and sunny too!  So, we went to Vancouver, Washington and found the new Armed Forces Reserve Center and got my military ID renewed.  Dayle was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and was wounded in action there while flying and is retired Army so I am eligible for military ID as his wife.  Of course, the photo is amazingly awful. On the way home we stopped at a nursery to see if they had a camellia like Alicia Paulson has named Ave Maria, but no one has one.  Wah.
Tomorrow I see a hand surgeon about a couple "ganglion cysts" on my left hand and then swimming.  Thursday I volunteer at the falls.  Friday is more swimming!  And in between that all I'm working on making jewelry for Vista House which opens on the 16th.

How is your week going?  Thanks for coming to visit!!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. Really fantastic photographs, I love your two fur babies, there looks to be a bit of sibling rivalry going on there! I can't wait to see 'The Cute Face' can that face actually get any cuter? I think you are very lucky to have three generations of men in your family that cook....way to go! Good luck with your appointment.

  10. I would say that you are mastering your new camera quite nicely! Loved your depth of field on the Christmas cactus photo! They (Christmas cactuses) are so beautiful. Mine bloomed a bit early this year...in early November...but I noticed yesterday that it has a new bloom and three or four buds...these must be the slowpokes that are now deciding to show their faces! And what a lovely memory of your Mother! When I lived in California and the roses were easy to grow, I had some bushes that were planted in memory of various souls. I also gave a few rose bushes as sympathy gifts (rather than sending flowers) as the renewed blooms bring wonderful thoughts. I have a friend who planted a rose in her garden in honor of my Mom and she tells me each year when my Mom comes into bloom. It makes me smile. My Mom and Dad are both buried in Willamette National Cemetery as my Dad was in World War II as well as the war in Korea. I have seen my Dad's grave but haven't been back there since my Mom passed in 2003(her cremated remains were added to his grave). I had someone in the Flickr community actually photograph the current headstone for me...a complete stranger! What a sweetheart he was to do that for me. I have cousins in Portland, but they'd never offer to do such a thing. Enough of this novel. Signing off now...have a good week, busy bee! Hugs, Annette

  11. My Christmas cactus is in bloom again too! That was very unexpected after a big blooming time before the holidays. My husband had one of those ganglions on his wrist or somewhere near the wrist and thumb and if I am not mistaken, the Dr told him to massage it and that it might break down. It did go away but stayed around for a very long time. Good luck with yours!~Hugs, Patti

  12. Your flowers and plants are so beautiful. What a sweet reminder of your mom. Do you use anything special on your house plants, like Miracle Grow or something like that? You must have inherited your mother's green thumb. Your "pile of pets" is so cute! I feel the same way sometimes with four dogs all piled around me. I just love it.

  15. The cactus is beautiful Teresa. The one my sis gave me 3 Christmases ago is flowering again - it is only a small plant at the moment but still beautiful. So sweet dog and cat want to be on your lap. I envy you all the swiming sesssions - at the moment I just don't get chance to do anything like that. Anne x
