More Busy & Then Rest

Yesterday my beloved and I volunteered at Multnomah Falls.  My younger sister Denise had knee surgery on Tuesday and Shirley flew to Virginia to help a friend, so Dayle stepped up to be my 2nd in command. :-)  (My sister is okay, it was laparoscopic surgery on a torn meniscus.)  I didn't think the falls would be very busy as it was showery all day, but we had lots of visitors, anyway!  I was pleased to see these Columbine wildflowers in bloom in the planters in front of the lodge.
Aren't they just the prettiest things?  Beyond them are the wild iris I showed you the last time I was there.
The buds look like rocket ships or comets, don't they?
I think it's just wonderful that someone at the lodge makes nectar for the many hummingbird feeders there and the visitors are fascinated by them and stand and watch and take photos.. isn't this one a cutie?  See the tiny feet?  These birds are the size of your thumb.  I see you looking at your thumb now!
Their wings flutter so fast you can hear them buzz, see the ghost of it's wing my camera caught?
It was cold enough yesterday that they had a roaring fire in the lodge for the diners to enjoy and warm up beside it's fragrant woodsmoke and flames.
I got this from the car as we headed home, and almost deleted it, because I should have pulled a little bit forward and the lamp post is obscuring the falls.. but I thought you might like to see how full, lush and green the trees are along the trail to the viewing plaza.
Today we are resting.  Finally.  I have been working on smaller projects - I finished this knitted coppery colored dish cloth for our trailer and then I grabbed the Green Tea colored cotton and my hook and took it to the falls with me and got it half done while visiting with visitors from around the world.  (Crochet pattern - "Gentle Ridges")  :-)  My sister Denise made the gorgeous quilted table runner for me.  Isn't it gorgeous?
I was photographing the cloths on the dining table, and noticed how pretty the "Bonfire Orange" Begonia is looking.  What a neat jolt of color there!
Then I saw that my white clematis is in bloom.. zooooom... we have wild "Silver Dollar" or Honesty plants at it's base.
This is the edge of the backyard shed.  Someday I want to clear out the boxes inside and transform it into a garden tea house.  What do you think?
So, what shall I do with the rest of the day... hmmm.. crochet, play Scrabble and Words with Friends.. finish the book I'm reading on my iPad "Sea Glass" by Anita Shreve.  Carol from "Smile at the Flowers" blog recommended it - Thanks, Carol!  I think I'll do it all!  I hope you all have a happy weekend, doing fun things, or just resting.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. What do I think? I think it's a fabulous idea! I've seen some pretty ones around blogland. Would be fun to decorate with some of your pretty stuff and even make some new "stuff" like maybe a crochet-covered pillow or two, maybe a doily framed on the wall, and of course it's own lap blanket when it's chilly...oh, and a teapot cozy! I love the way the little shed looks from the outside. It must have an interior to match, don't you think? You'll need a sign on the doorm, "No boys allowed!" Hee-hee.

  3. I hope your sister recovers quickly. I'm glad you're taking some time to rest, you have been a busy lady! I really want to start crocheting dishcloths myself; I think I might add that to my summer projects. I have a bunch of cotton yarn I need to use up. Your flowers are beautiful as ever.

  4. Very thoughtful for Dayle to help out at the Falls while your sister is recovery from her surgery...how sweet is he!!! Always love seeing all the beautiful flowers around your home and the Falls, all so pretty. So happy to hear you are resting today, you sure have been one busy little lady. If it were me....I would be crocheting, sleeping, eating a little, crochet and sleep some more....a perfect restful day! Hope your sister feels better soon.

  5. I'm so glad to hear that Denise is doing wellafter her surgery. Such pretty pictures and I think your dish cloths are beautiful. One of my blog reader wants to buy three of my spiral dishcloths. Isn't that nice? I feel guilty charging for them. :-). I love to give people gifts.
All of your activities sound great. I'm at the lake waiting for our friends to arrive for dinner. I have steaks ready for the grill, salad and a new potato dish in the oven. Lemon lush for dessert. Wish you & Dayle could join us. Have a great weekend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. That's a beautiful lodge at the falls! It must be a joy to volunteer there. Amazing photos of the little Hummers they can be hard to capture in a picture but you've done it. I love those little birds. We have quite a few pairs of them that come every year to our apple trees.

My hummingbirds are too busy dive-bombing for me to catch them in my camera.

  14. I hope you had a lovely day catching your breath from all your busy times. I finished Dan Brown's new book last night, wow it was a thriller. I am sewing today and hanging out, I am refusing to clean one thing today, of course I'll have to make up for it tomorrow.
    Hugs to you Teresa,
