Crochet Bunnies for my Granddaughters

Hello from the home of little girls, sweet little voices, singing, Sweet Street villages full of little people and tiny furniture, juice boxes, hot dogs, hair to brush and put into ponytails, kitty and dog petting... :-)  When Jenna (8) saw my crocheted kitty, she wondered if I could make her something.. I asked her what she'd like and she decided on a pink bunny.  Then I made a purple and blue bunny for Paige (4) using CottonTots yarn by Bernat!  I made them up as I went and they are both different.
It's easy, just chain 9, sc 3 into the 2nd stitch from the end, add, 3 at the ends on each row, doing 4 rows, then stop adding and just sc around until you have the body, dec on each side for the shoulders, about 3 or 4 rows - sc around until you have the head mostly done, then start decreasing every third stitch, stuff it, close up the top.  For the ears, chain 8, join to the first chain and keep crocheting around until you get the length you want, then dec and tie off.  I lightly stuffed the ears of the pink one and did not stuff the blue ears.. I think I like them best.  Sew on some button eyes, embroider a pink nose and mouth.. make a pompom tail, sew on.. and TA-DAH!!  A cuddly toy for kids.
My precious granddaughters and their bunnies.
We've had wonderful weather during their visit.. it's been awesome!  They swing and enjoy the fort, but they mostly love playing with the little toy houses and people.
Jenna had the idea of posing the bunnies with the same color flowers.. :-)
Paige found some lavender flowers to pose hers with.. cute stuff.  This bell flower was a "volunteer" that Kristi found and brought me the flower.  She pulled up the plant to show me the leaves when I was trying to identify it and I suggested she plant it.. and it took and now it's blooming again.. isn't that cool?
My sister Denise gave me and my other sister for a Christmas gift - a yo-yo maker and 3 holiday colored fabric pieces - my older sister Roberta decided to return it to her at Denise's BBQ the other day as she didn't think she'd use it.  I said I'd take it as I was keen to make some yo-yos - and here are my first ones.  I have 9 of them done now.  I am going to make a star centerpiece.  Have you ever made yo-yos?  What did you do with them?
Our daughter is off on her own today.. she is very excited about it!  Dayle let her take his little Thunderbird convertible to drive across town to the NIKE campus to have lunch with a friend she worked with there before she had her girls.  She is also going to try to visit her cousin Mark who is an executive there.. he arranged for her to have a pass to the NIKE Employee Store where she'll shop for things for VERY good prices.  It will be fun to see what she finds.  She's been so busy during this trip trying to see all her old friends and our beach trip, she needed some time to herself.  I'm heading off to volunteer at Multnomah Falls and Dayle is going to drop me off there and then take the girls to see the falls and then on to tour the gorge.. and end up in Cascade Locks to get them a big swirly soft ice cream cone!!  I'm sending my camera with him.  :-)  Thanks for visiting and have a terrific week-end!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Teresa, I learned how to crochet when I was just a little girl. But I only know how to do a regular plain straight line! You are quite crafty!

  4. Sooooo much fun :) Thanks for sharing it with us, Teresa! I would like to learn how to make yo-yos. As a child I had a Little Golden Book about Jingle Bell Jack...a clown made out of yo-yos and jingle bells. Hmmm I want to read it again, and I think it would be fun to try to make a clown like Jack. Your plans for today sound perfect! Joy to you and yours!

  5. Teresa, I can hear the happiness in your voice. How hard it will be to see the girls go, but just think of the wonderful memories you've made with them in the past week. The bunnies are adorable and I think I may have to try this for Miss Piper.

I've never made yo-yo's. How do you join them? I'm excited to see what you come up with.

    Enjoy today with your girls.

    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. You got that. Cute as a bunnie. Glad to see you are enjoying your time with the girls and fam. But, glad to here you are going to be right back at it when they leave. As I sit here munch on a bowl of Skinny Popcorn. We get it at Costco. So worth every 150 cals for 4 cups. Thanks for popping by. Not sure anyone knew I was around anymore. Sorry, about not being as good on WWF lately. Been busy working on travel stuff for our road trip around Lake Michigan this fall. Also, DEN and SEA in August...

  9. Loved the bunnies!....and so, by the look of them, did your little granddaughters! I think I prefer the floppy ears too. Typical of little girl that they immediately find colour coordination to pose with! Pretty children. You must be one proud grandma! Joan
