This was one of my gifts to Shirley, we'd seen it in the store when we had lunch last week. She'd told me she liked it, so I went back and got it for her on Saturday. It's a Thanksgiving decoration. I'm trying to figure out what it's supposed to mean that the turkey is laying on it's tummy.. what do you think?
Shirley and her friend baked peach and blueberry pie for dessert with a gluten free crust - it was delish!
Shirley had some pretty dahlias in a vase for the party.
I spied a hot pad I gave to Shirley hanging on her fridge.
I also gave her a little pumpkin I crocheted and a handmade card.
Shirley had the prettiest centerpiece of these gorgeous handmade velvet pumpkins that she'd discovered at a florist shop. Now I want one of these!
Here are my gifts to Shirley. Thank you for the fun time!
Have you got good plans for the week? Today I head off to swimming, then tomorrow is... PIE day. Yes, folks, I'm determined to make a home made apple pie from scratch. My mom was a renowned pie maker and I actually think I've been afraid to make pies as I didn't think I would measure up. Tomorrow we'll find out. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Hello Teresa, What lovely gifts you made and bought for your dear friend.. I reckon the Turkey is worn out from all the Thanksgiving Day Meal work...LOL I reckon you will be a great Pie maker Teresa. I am sure of it.. Please tell your friend I absolutely LOVE those wee glass acorn and pumpkin. Love them.. Have a great week.. Hugs judy
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Shirley had a wonderful birthday. I'm not sure but about the turkey on the tummy. Maybe he is stuffed from eating Thanksgiving dinner? But of course he wouldn't be eating turkey so who knows? It is just a cute little thing. Good luck at making the pie. I've only started making pies myself in the last couple of years. Like you, my mom was an excellent cook and pie maker so I never had much need to try my hand at it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the perfect birthday celebrations to me !
ReplyDeleteIs the turkey tired from cooking all day? Hmm...did he cook some other turkey? It's all feeling a bit morbid now that I think about it! I'm glad you had a nice time with Shirley. We played "When I'm Sixty-Four" at our wedding; it was our cake-cutting song. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that fabulous turkey--gave me a little giggle:) Glad you all could have such a good time together--love those little pumpkins too! Your post reminded me that DH has been asking me to make an apple pie too...
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Aimee
PS: We have SUN right now! Hold the pie, I have some photos to take:)
What lovely gifts you gave Shirley, love her velvet pumpkins too. Well, about the pie making, if anyone can make a pie it would be you.....you are a multi-talented person and excel in all you do!!!! Can't wait to see your mile high pie!! xoRobin
ReplyDeleteNo pressure hahaha
That's a clever idea remembering something your friend liked and secretly buying it! Bonus all round as you know they wanted it :) Mr Turkey is funny. It looks like he's collapsed after escaping the Thanksgiving dinner :p
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see your friend using things you've made her too (love the watermelon!) Your crochet pumpkin will look great on her table display x
I'm so glad Shirley had a happy birthday celebration and that you got to enjoy it, too. It's great you knew just what to give her that she would enjoy. Do you think the turkey might be pleading for mercy...asking to be spared from....well you know what :) I love Shirley's glass and velvet pumpkin display, too! I saw velvet pumpkins somewhere and was tempted to get some. Pies!!!!! Mmmm I tried some Pillsbury gluten free dough from the grocery store and thought it tasted pretty good. Hope your swim is a happy one :)

Hi Teresa, what a lovely series of photos! That blueberry/peach pie looks divine!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great get together. Good luck with the pie making! Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteWhat nice gifts you gave your friend. That is one silly turkey, lol. The pumpkin you made her is just the right thing for the season and she can use it for many years to come. That pie business is fun!!! As you know I made an apple pie awhile back and wasn't all that crazy about the spices. It was that Paula Dean recipe. I should have just done my old standby, it would have tasted better. Those grandsons are gonna love your pie, put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it and give me a call. I'll be right over, lol.
ReplyDelete(((HUGS))) Susanne :)
Such a fun day with Shirley and all the ladies. The turkey is oh so cute! And I especially like the velvet pumpkins as well as the glass work. Please tell us where she got them and maybe I can stop in while visiting! See you soon my friend. (Don't forget to bring us pie!)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
It is so wonderful to have friends that have known us nearly our whole lives! I love the gifts you gave to Shirley! I have yet to crochet a pumpkin, but I must! Trying to catch up on blogging, but I am way behind! The rain sounded lovely! We are warm, in the nineties, but cooling way down at night! About a month or so of warm weather, and then we should be getting some nice cool weather!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
What a lovely birthday celebration Shirley enjoyed.....looking forward to seeing a real apple pie;0) xx
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the pie making!! I'm sure you'll do fine. The turkey is really cute. It reminds me of how we all feel after eating to much turkey. :-)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the pie...I'm sure it will be delish! After apple-picking Saturday I baked up an apple pie Sunday...since my hub's mom always used Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts I get to take the easy way out & use them too ;P
ReplyDeleteSmiles, DianeM
LOL! Obviously the turkey is exhausted from running from the ax! It makes a cute centerpiece. The love you and Shirley have for each other shines through your pictures. Isn't it wonderful to have such a friend all thees years? And don't worry, your pie will be delicious!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely birthday Shirley had, and such nice presents from you! Good luck with making your apple pie.....I am sure it will be delicious!
ReplyDeleteHappy October, Teresa!

That turkey looks like how I feel sometimes ;) It looks like a great time was had by all. Long time friends are the best!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Shirley, may she have many, many more. Good luck with the pie, I have a feeling it is going to be incredibly yummy.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you,
Meredith
Happy Birthday to Shirley. I like the saying about new friends being silver but old friends being gold. My golden friend has been my friend for 50 years, and when we meet (usually one holiday a year) we never stop talking. Love her!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a great cake maker but I'm pretty good with pies. You need cool hands, cold water, handle pastry as little as possible and let it 'rest' in the fridge for about 30 mins before rolling out. Hope your apple pies are delicious. Carol xx
Happy birthday to your friend Shirley! I love the gifts you gave her and I. Sure your pie is going to be delicious... You are a marvelous cook and always have lots of goodies to show us:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely party. That dahlia is spectacular ..... or is it your fantastic photography ? Can I ask what those orange thingies are under the velvet pumpkins ? They look so pretty.
