SNOW!

Hi there, thanks for stopping by!  When I awoke this morning our skylights over our bed were covered with a layer of fine snow!  It's still snowing.  Yay!  We're by the fire, no where we have to go and I'll be finishing up the decorating and spiffing up.  The little boys are drawing after a venture out to feel the snow.  They're loving this!  I wrapped up in coat, shawl and hat and ventured out for a bit to get some shots.  I never tired of photographing the red barn with white snow.  The boat trailer and pallets need to go! :-)

I think we need to tidy up the deck, too.  A bit too cold right now! :-)

We noticed that the nectar in the hummingbird feeder was frozen, poor little tiny birds couldn't get any food to warm them!  OH NO!  So Dayle brought in the feeder and submerged it in hot water to melt it and they've been feeding like crazy ever since.  We'll keep an eye on it.  Dayle also installed plastic panels in the doors of the chicken coop to keep the cold and wind out and their warmth in.  We'll make sure their water is not frozen, too.  He put fresh out yesterday.

We hung up Christmas wreathes on the outside AND inside of the back door.  One on the front door too.  One above the fireplace, also.

I shot a photo of the field across the road through my leaded glass window.  Artsy! :-)

Dayle found this leaded glass window on Craigslist years ago, so we went to see it and bought this one and a half round one that hangs in front of the garden window in the kitchen.  It's the closest I'll ever get to living in a manor house in England.  :-)

What are you up to today?  I have to finish my cards, too.  But I'm not stressed or worried, even though I have only gotten gifts for hubby so far.  But it's all good and it will all happen in good time.

  1. Good Morning Teresa! It's really cold here to and we woke up to a dusting of snow. It's done that every day this week and then blown away with the wind later in the day. It's so cold the snow is having a hard time sticking to the ground. Your pictures are beautiful and it's good you're taking care of all the birds. Hummingbirds AND chickens! Enjoy your cozy fire. I got my packages mailed off to Japan this morning and I'm heading to knitting group. I think I'd rather be by the fire, but I know I'll have fun once I'm there. :-)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. The snow looks so pretty! I'm glad you're able to stay inside and enjoy it from the warmth of the house, though. I'm surprised you're still getting hummingbirds. I miss mine but we have to take our feeders down around Halloween where I live. The photo above of your house looks beautiful, such a cozy Christmas image.

I really love it when we stay home and can enjoy our weather.

  4. Oh, my goodness...several hours south of you...between Drain and Elkton out in the country, we have had between six and seven inches of snow. It is magnificently beautiful but very hard on all of our greenhouses.
Do stay warm and cozy. I am off to load the washing machine. I live in fear we will lose our power, which is not bad because I can cook on the woodstove and that is what always keeps us warm, but because we have well water, ergo no pump when the power goes out. I filled the kerosene lanterns and have candles, it's the lack of water that gets me...think toilets!!!

  5. It was so exciting to wake up to a dusting of snow this morning! The snow really shows up on our frozen ponds. It is cold [teens and low 20s] here and the wind makes it especially bone chilling! I'm glad you are able to feed the hummers and warm up your hens, too. Like you I am glad to be cozy inside, but I enjoyed seeing your views of the world outside around you:)

  6. We will be inside this weekend as we are getting sleet, with a coating of snow. What fun! (not really) Going to work on my Christmas cards. Your shots are lovely!

  9. I made fresh hummingbird sugar water but haven't been able to put it out because it's so cold. A few more days until the weather warms up.
We got nothing to speak of snow here in Canbyland.

I love your back door wreath with the small apples? Beautiful. I am going to make our (one) wreath tomorrow. If I make one, I might as well make two - one for my folks.

  10. What a surprise to read that you have hummingbirds still in winter. I read a book about one that never made it south for the winter and the family took it into the house where it was warm. The woman actually researched about them and found out that hummers not only feed on nectar, but they also feast on tiny insects for the protein they need. I never knew that. My friend has the book, I should find out who wrote it so you can read it. It is a true story. We always take our feeder down mid October, that way they do not miss their window of opportunity to migrate. Did you know they will even hitch a ride with bigger birds like geese, they bury their beak into the neck of the bird and save valuable energy. They are amazing.
Keep warm, have a great weekend. We have snow too, burrrrrrrrrr

  11. Snow! Wow. It does look purty ;-) It isn't snowing in my city but it might be in the 'burbs. It is sure cold though. Too cold. I've been trying hard to keep my place warm and it has been a challenge. Just when I was finishing dealing with that and about to go out for the evening we had a fire alarm. Outside and it was windy. I hope it isn't windy where you are. Snow is nicer when all is calm. Enjoy your decorating. It is good to enjoy and relax as you prepare for the holidays. ♥

  12. Oh Teresa, how pretty! The barn is beautiful, against that pure white snow! I love the wreaths on the doors, and the leaded ARTSY shot of the window. I love leaded windows, and stained glass. I have a beautiful stained glass that Greg got me. It hangs in our big picture window in the living room.
You sitting by the fire, while the snow is falling outside, is such a cozy scene! Enjoy it!!

  14. We didn't get any snow here but it's been cold and breezy. Went out a bit this afternoon. I've got some gifts already, not buying much this year. Still decorating. Stay warm!

  18. Keep snug Teresa and enjoy your card writing. I am glad you are feeding those sweet hummingbirds. I am so behind this year but I have Daisy as the perfect excuse ;0) Hugs x

  19. I love your leaded glass windows! But I'm feeling bad for that little hummingbird in the snow. We have hummers in the summer here but it's way way to cold for them in winter here. We have wind chill temperatures of -25 below zero tonight.......brrrrrrrrrrr! It brings new meaning to the words....snuggle up by the fire place. ;-)

  20. The red barn does look lovely ;-)

We've got a bit of snow too, about the same amount as you, it seems. The forecast for tomorrow is more snow, and I do have to admit I hope it to be true. The snow does light up the landscape beautifully this time of year.

  21. Love your stained glass windows and of course the great pictures. It looks so cold - glad its on your side of the world not mine :) I can't seem to get in the Christmas spirit this year - haven't written any cards and haven't done any gift shopping. I've also told both my daughters that they're in charge of cooking Christmas dinner this year too. Actually we're celebrating Christmas on 21st as DD1 and her DH are going away for the 2 weeks he is off work. I'll be going to my eldest DD's place on Christmas Day. That will be fun as my 11 yo grandson gets excited about the big day. Stay warm xoxox

  22. I think I would love to be there pittering and puttering around with you in your warm and cozy house. Today I have a class to take, errands to run and a big Ohio State football game to watch. I am hoping to finish a crochet shawl for a friend and just relax.
    Hugs,
    Meredith

  23. Your leaded glass is gorgeous! I love it! Your place is looking very wintery and festive. I bet the hummingbirds are so happy that you're providing them with nectar during the winter! :-)
