Tapes, Advent & Ice Falls

Hi there.. welcome!  How is your weekend going?  We went to Costco the other day to get some things, a few gifts... and I plopped a box for me in the cart.  They had a washi-style tape dispenser that I just had to have.  Have your tried "washi" tape?  It's paper and colorful and fun.

I've already used it to seal and decorate some envelopes I'll be sending out tomorrow.. cards to my two granddaughters that live in Ohio and a little something that is heading to Florida... :-)

If you haven't tried this stuff, you need to get some!  :-)

We've had foggy weather for several days.. I finally got the replacement light bulbs for the vintage advent candelabra I got off of eBay and so here is my natural wood colored one.  I ordered some candle rings to go on both of them as the other one is missing 2.  This one is in the bay window behind our easy chairs in our family room.  We returned home in the dark the other day and I just loved seeing these glowing to welcome us home.

This is the one in the dining room window, see the fog?

I received a surprise box from Florida.. it was from my blog friend Meredith from Mereknits Blog.  I'm hosting 3 of my blog friends that live in the NW for a luncheon in a week and wished that Meredith could join us.. just a bit hard as she's across the country in Florida.. but that darling girl sent a gift for each of us anyway!!  Mere, you're adorable.  Thank you.  Below is my box with my little Angora goat who wants to say Maaaaaa to Meredith's yellow sheep.

I wonder what is in there?  o<[]:{D

A mountain of surprises is growing by the tree.  The little grandsons have been so good and have not bothered the tree or gifts.  They DO ask each day if it's time to open them yet.  No, no.. you have to wait more.  :-)

This is my little North Pole Village on the piano.  The skating pond finally stopped working, but I like the pond and skaters even if they don't move.

One of the Friends of Multnomah Falls volunteers sent me this photo of a bridge near the top of Multnomah Falls.. I was so enchanted by it I asked if I could share it with you.  The photographer's name is Terry Hill.

Another FOMF volunteer sent these photos of the falls iced over, which is neat because I wasn't able to get there to volunteer last thursday because of a predicted ice storm.  Of course the weather people were wrong.. duh.. and we could have gone.. that happens to me every winter.  Canceling events and activities due to overzealous weather people.  Anyway.. Ron Goodwin is the photographer for the next 3 shots.

It's a good thing it's warmed up some as the ice was building up pretty high under the bridge.

Isn't it pretty?

I don't have huge plans for the day.. wrap a few last things.  Make some gifts.. I might have to shoot some shots of my project.. what are you up to this fine day?

  1. I love to read your blog. Look every day for a new one! We've even been cold here in south Texas lately (cold for us anyway!).Feels like Christmas! I've finished shopping, wrapping and baking except for the candy. I am proud of me! Now to wait for the kids and grands to get here next Sunday for an early Christmas. Not so family friendly when the big day is in the middle of the week. Our son is a police officer so if a holiday falls on his regular work day----work it is! We are fortunate in that our son and his family live only about 10 miles away. Our daughter, son in law and 2 grandkids live with us so we feel very blessed, indeed! Since most of my hustle has been completed, I can now spend some more time on my crochet. Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and the best of New Year's.

  2. That Meredith is a treasure! What a lovely gesture! Don't you just love the soul sisters that develop in this land? Love your goat! And Mere's Sofie! Cute, cute, cute!

  3. I have to say that your postings are never boring, not one bit. You make me dizzy with all you do, how on earth do you manage? How sweet of Meredith to send you a package. That is the thing about blogger buddies, they are always willing to be generous at all times. The fun part is you never know when a surprise will land in your mailbox. Too bad you can't send her some snow, I know she misses the change of seasons. Right now I could send snow to everyone......I am sick of shoveling and I know that it has just started for us. If we get as much snow as we have had rain this past spring and summer then we are in for work, work, work. Keep warm, have a good week.

  5. Ditto all of the comments Teresa. I may have to make a Costco run for Washi tape and just look at that veritable mountain of gifts under your tree. Isn't Meredith the sweetest thing? Your sheep could become great friends-maybe we could all chip in for a plane ticket and get her here to see us!!!!!
I'm glad we've had a bit of a warm-up over here too. I hope it stays decent for our drive your way.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Wow these pictures of the fall are just amazing... I haven't done envy thing with washi tape yet but I have seen many cute ideas. I bought some Christmas ones and I'm waiting to use them this year. Meredith is such a sweetheart... I'm so glad the weather is a bit more decent now. :)

  8. My goodness those falls are magnificent ! That Christmas tree of yours will soon be dwarfed with all those gifts. You really should control yourself Teresa LOL. The photo of the bridge is gorgeous - wish I could take shots like that. I'm starting to think that my city is pretty boring as far as taking photos is concerned. Might have to go exploring and see if I can find something of interest. I've heard of washi tape but don't believe I've ever seen it. What is it used for ? xoxox

    1. Washi tape is used for decorating packages and envelopes, for making little flags and banners, for making tabs in books and wrapping pencils. Even making frames on walls for putting up pictures or postcards. It's really fun stuff!! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  9. The washi tape dispenser is really cool! I love washi tape too. I keep mine in a shoebox with my inkpads and stamps. We're planning to go to Costco this weekend (have to buy our ham) so I will see if they have these at ours. Your Advent candelabras are both beautiful and they must be very welcoming from outdoors. The falls are very impressive! I've never seen ones that high get frozen, only smaller ones. Thanks for sharing the pics.

  12. nice post and thanks for sharing photos of Multnomah Falls. I was there the year it frozen over and got some good photos as well. one is hanging on my wall. My little granddaughter loves it! She likes waterfalls. I do as well. Not sure what washi tape dispenser is good for but looks fun and may check it out at ours soon. What do you use it for, craft wise? Are other NW bloggers allowed to come to your get togethers? That sounds like fun. I'm close in proximity. Our family of 7 went to Peacock Ln last night and it was beautiful. It's been 25 years ago when we saw it and our children were young. Now we are enjoying it with 3 more members...2 are grandchildren! We've been having alot of fog as well. Not fun to drive in, esp at night! Take care!
