Gifts from the Sea

Yesterday we awoke to a beautiful sunny day with puffy clouds!  We had our coffee and bagel and awaited the arrival of my best friend from 7th grade, Shirley, and her husband John.  Also coming to help celebrate my birthday were our DIL Kristi and 2 little grandsons, Caleb and Hayden.

I tried to capture the beautiful sight of a wave breaking and the light shining through the wave.

When everyone got here we all headed off for lunch at Georgie's Grill in Newport.  The food is great and there is a full view from the restaurant of the Pacific Ocean - you can even see Yaquina Head Lighthouse at work from our table.  The boys ate their meals with gusto, I had wonderful prawns and they even brought me a complimentary dessert with a candle on top - and everyone sang happy birthday to me! :-)

After lunch, we came back to the camp as the boys wanted to play on the beach.  Here is Grandpa and Kristi and Buddy.

All five of them.

And look at what they brought for me from the beach?  Agates!

And a piece of green sea glass.  :-)

Here is a close up of the sea glass and another really pretty agate that looks like a drop of amber honey.

To me each one is a work of art and I study their beauty.

This is the biggest one and has an inner orange glow.

Kristi also found a funny little nut and she popped it open and it's like 2 hearts and reminds me of two little owl faces!  Who knows where on earth this came from!

These look like molten gold.

Kristi booked a room for them in a quaint little old hotel called Trollers Lodge in Depoe Bay and they headed there for the evening.  We had a really dramatic sunset last night!

I hope you don't mind me posting several images of it.

The sun fell below the clouds...

Zooooom...

I caught this image of the spray illuminated in pinkish orange off this wave.

Dayle got this one of the wave breaking..

And then to our cozy bed for the night.

Kristi was up with the boys this morning and took them for breakfast then down to the beach.  They visited us here and Caleb found some cartoons for them to watch while they warmed up.  They headed on home and we'll see them in a few days.  :-)

I had to show you the neat gift Kristi gave me!  It's a Nordic candelabra!  I love these and was wishing for a red one, and it has hand-painted decorations!  It looks super neat in the trailer at night all lit up.

Well, we're be heading off for some afternoon adventure.  I hope you have a great weekend!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  12. Because of the time difference, I always get to comment after everyone else. I'd like to agree with everything others have said about your wonderful day. I especially love those stones from the beach and I don't think we must get them over here which is such a shame because they look beautiful. Kristi knows you well doesn't she? Love the candelabra - its SO you. Sunset and surf photos = spectacular. Enjoy the rest of your stay. xox

  27. I bet you had a very Happy Birthday on the 25th. You sure captured some lovely and interesting pictures of the ocean and surrounding areas. I envy you, the closest we are around here is to the water is the Sandusky River and Lake Erie. There never seems to be enough time to just kick back and roam these areas, and I sure don't want to do it alone. Everyone here is so busy. The things I do see are usually when I am driving and good luck on snapping photos and doing that. Anyways, I am sure glad that some of my blogger friends share their pictures. It does brighten my days as I am sure it brightens theirs as well. Love the sea glass. It would be so much fun to search along the beach for it. I will have to check online to see if a person can buy it from somewhere. I am thinking it would sure be pretty to put in a terrarium along with pretty little plants. How cute would that be for helping to landscape a tiny little scene.

  28. Hi there, We like your photos! We are traveling to the OR coast in June for the first time! It has been crazy trying to figure out where to stay and where to go. So far we are staying two nights at the Inn at Wecoma in Lincoln City...found a great deal on Hotwire (100 bucks a night with tax!). Then we found a yurt to stay in one night near Newport. Then we need to figure out where to stay for two more nights before we stay near the Oregon Dunes area. I thought it might be good to stay in the Newport area. Do you have any recommendations for reasonable lodging there? We wanted to stay around $100 or even less if that was possible per night. One of those days we wanted to drive all the way down to the Redwood National Forest in CA for a day trip and then return back to Newport. Do you think that is crazy especially with a 3 and 5 year old in tow? I was looking at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn, but the reviews are so so there and they don't offer a free breakfast. The reviews on Traveladvisor also said the walk to the beach from the hotel is super far. I can't tell for sure, but I think its advertised on Hotwire for $102 a night (3.5 stars) plus tax ($20) (normally $135 + tax). Whaler's Rest RV doesn't have any cabins and we have never tent camped before, so that is probably out. Our trip has become kind of expensive, we're looking for a place with like two beds. All the State cabin/yurts are reserved! Are there other commercial campgrounds that are reasonable that have cabins? Anyways, thanks for any help you may offer. Do you think the aquarium is worth the time in Newport? Take care. btw, our sister in Maryland looks at your blog and sent us this post! We are in MT.

    1. Hi there,

I'm glad you enjoyed my photos on my blog. Boy you have a lot of questions.. and I'm not sure I have any of the answers. Newport is definitely a neat place to visit and the aquarium there is very nice. I doubt you could do a day trip from Newport to the Redwoods. That's a long way. KOA campgrounds have cute little cabins you can rent. Other than that I'd just suggest you do a lot of googling to find the answers to your questions.

      Teresa :-)
